“What are you trying to say?”

Her eyes were blurred with tears, threatening to fall. Her hands were clenched tight, as her heart felt like it has sunk a million miles down.

“Things just haven’t been working out between the both of us lately. We argue almost every single day now, and we barely look at each other. Is this what a relationship is to you? Is it, Brittany?”

With her name said, her heart sunk right to the bottom. She looked down, trying to hold back her tears.

After a moment of silence, she finally spoke.

“But why would you choose today?”

Her words were filled with hurt. She finally looked up at him, tears that continuously streamed down her face. Soft sniffles that turned into sobs, it was just too much for her to handle at once.

“I… I’m sorry. I didn’t want you to be upset on your birthday. I thought if I just said it now, you could be happier for the rest of the day. I just couldn’t take this any much longer.”

He rumbled through his pocket, taking something out. He took her hand and gave back the locket that she gave him for their first anniversary. He hugged her, and slowly turned to leave.

Brittany stood there, motionless. She was still crying, watching the one she loved so much leave. She held tightly onto the locket, feeling her nails digging into her palm.
