The Ant and Grasshopper Meet

The Ant and The Grasshopper

Seohyun stared at her callendar in disbelief. She had completely forgotten that she had no classes today and was free to do what she wanted. The only thing is, she didn't know what she wanted to do that day. She glanced at the large pile of textbooks on her desk, she knew she had to study but maybe she could do it while in town. Seohyun hadn't been off campus for a long time. She got dressed and managed to stuff her smallest textbook into her bag before stepping outside of her dorm room. She nervously went down the elevator and out towards the street. Seohyun made sure to look both ways before crossing the street and wandering into the city. She walked to a cafe next to a small park and ordered a coffee. Seohyun looked around nervously, she saw lots of people her age pass by but none of them looked like they wanted to study for the next exam. Many girls were all dressed up in nice outfits or clinging onto the arms of their boyfriends.

Seohyun burried her face in her textbook until the coffee arrived. She took a small sip and started to read the chapter they had gone over in class. That's when she heard the familiar plucking of strings. She looked up and towards the park, sitting on a bench was a girl just about her age that was plucking clumsily at some strings on an acoustic guitar. Seohyun paid for the coffee quickly and took it with her as she hesitantly approached the girl.

"Um excuse me...?" Yoona looked up from her guitar and saw a very pretty young girl looking at her nervously. "You know how to play the guitar?" Yoona hesitated for a moment, should she say yes or no?

"Not really," Yoona admited as she randomly strummed the strings, "I just carry it around for show." She grinned and Seohyun couldn't help but smile.

"Well, I know how to play it a little bit..." Seohyun sat down next to Yoona and gently took the guitar. She placed her fingers diligently on the strings. "I'm sorry if I'm not that good... I haven't had a chance to play ever since high school." Seohyun slowly strummed a few notes before playing a short song. It was the only thing she could remember from her guitar lessons because it was the song she was worst at. By the time she got the hang of playing it correctly, she had already practiced playing it about 100 times. Or at least that's how it felt like to her. The song was over quickly and as Seohyun was just about to hand the guitar back to Yoona, the later applauded.

"Wow! You were great! I could never play a guitar that well!" Yoona grinned as Seohyun felt her face heat up. No one had ever complimented her on something that wasn't achedemic before.

"Oh, thank you very much Miss..." Seohyun quickly said as she gave the guitar back to Yoona. Yoona placed it on the ground under the bench and turned to face Seohyun.

"Don't call me Miss, that makes me sound old! My name's Im Yoona" Yoona smiled, "What's your name?"

"Oh, I'm Seo Joohyun," Seohyun said politely, "But most people call me Seohyun."

"Seohyun huh? What a name! You know, I have a friend nicknamed Sunny!" Yoona said with a wild hand gesture.

"Really? I have a friend who everyone calls Tiffany and she has a friend named Jessica." Seohyun realized that the two of them may have something in common. Knowing people with forgien nicknames. Yoona laughed and Seohyun couldn't help but notice that opened oddly wide, kind of like an alligator.

"So what are you doing out here Seohyun? Grabbing a drink before going out to your boyfriend?" Yoona smirked and playfully nudged the other with her ellbow. Seohyun felt her face heat up at the mention of having such a close relationship with a boy.

"O-Of course not... I came to that cafe to study for my university classes...."

"Ick, I hate school. How can you stand sitting in a room for hours listening to some old guy talk about something you'll never need to know?" Seohyun gasped. What a childish way to think about the education system! Seohyun knew very well to apreciate her education because children in third world countries would love to go to school but they can't. So Seohyun had decided a long time ago to appreciate every lesson and every bit of knowledge that was thrown her way.

"What do you mean Yoona-unnie?" Seohyun asked, her voice becoming a little higher, "Education is a wonderful thing! I know for a fact that there are children in less fortunate countries that would love to go to school! Besides, it doesn't matter if you will never use the knowledge you gain in school practically, it is still knowlege and when someone learns something new they get just a little bit wiser."

Yoona rolled her eyes slightly and couldn't help but chuckle. Who still thinks about learning like that? Yoona remembers hearing tons of lectures like that from her parents and teachers before she dropped out of high school. "Its not like I care, I haven't been in school for a loooooooong time now and I'm not going back." Yoona grabbed her guitar from under the chair and plucked a string.

"So you're a high school drop out!?" Seohyun couldn't believe it! She had never met a high school drop out before. She had heard that they are wild, drug addicted maniacs that barely showed up to class and when they did class would be over. Seohyun shuddered at the thought of such indecent behavior in a school. But Yoona looked different. She did not look like the pictures of high school drop outs that Seohyun's parents had shown her. Yoona had flawless skin, pearl white teeth, delicate hands, long legs, a perfect body, a great smile, and those large, soulful eyes.

Yoona nodded and frowned slightly. "What? You got something against drop outs? I bet your just some kind of prude that sits at the dorm all day and studies. No fun at all." Yoona chuckled slightly. Seohyun fit the image of a sheltered college student perfectly. The pale skin, neat hair, small hands, and innocent eyes all fit the image Yoona had in mind. All she needed was the glasses and the image would truely be complete! However, this particular college shut in was much prettier than Yoona had imagined a studious person could ever be.

Seohyun pouted slightly in annoyance at Yoona's comment. She quickly grabbed her textbook and stood up. "Well you have your fun then. I'm going back home to study and create a nice future for myself." Seohyun stormed off as Yoona stared at her leave.

"Who needs school? I can have the life that I want hanging out with my friends and partying all day!" Yoona stood up and slung her guitar across her back. "I sure hope I don't see that prude Seohyun again."
