Days later, you went back to work.
“Are you all right?” The owner asked, concerned, “I think you should rest more.”
“I’m okay.” You gave her a tiny, tired smile. You made yourself busy to forget about everything that happened. After closing the shop, you turned to leave and stopped.
“Hey.” He whispered.
“Dongjun?” Your eyes slightly widened in surprise. You hadn’t seen him in the longest time.
“Want to take a walk with me?” He asked. “…Sure.” You agreed.
You and Dongjun walked by the riverbank with cups of warm cocoa. Dongjun finally said, “I heard what happened to your dad.” You looked at the ground.
“I’m sorry.” He whispered.
“It’s not your fault.” You whispered.
“But it’s not L. Joe’s either.” Dongjun said.
You froze at the mention of him. Your heart hurt every time you thought of L. Joe. You missed him a lot. You turned to Dongjun, “…Why are you saying that?”
“I heard.” Dongjun looked at the ground and made circles with the toe of his sneakers, “L. Joe followed you that day. He tried to help but it was too late. Then he held you back to prevent you from going to your dad.”
You looked away. Deep down, you knew it wasn’t L. Joe’s fault. You were just a bit resentful of what could’ve happened.
