“You missed one beat, Ruu-chan~”

Yuto once again noticed Louise’s mistake as she tried beating her sticks on Yuto’s beloved drum set. He beamed a familiar smile at her – somehow with a teasing sense as he saw a struggling girl beside him. Louise on the other hand didn’t enjoy this gesture as she sighed for the nth time whilst crossing her arms and signalled for Yuto to do the beat again - trying her utmost best to listen carefully to the sound.

“Do it slowly!” Louise demanded as she tapped her hands on her lap, following the actions of Yuto’s slender ones. After this, Yuto handed her the drumsticks once again and gave off a soft smile across his face – this time, it was encouraging.

Louise took a deep breath before starting again and began to beat the drums slowly then evidently keeping up in speed. As expected, Yuto noticed stiff actions from her hands but Louise’s serious expression on her face is enough to make him admire her even more. He stared at her working figure that didn’t fail to put a soft smile across his lips. All this time, whenever he sees Louise’s working face, it never fails to make him realise how lucky he is to be able to enjoy her dedication in every work she does.

As he laid his eyes on her serious figure, a sudden thought hit him and brought him back when all this started.

//Flashback//

“Itadakimasu!!” Yuto clapped his hands once as he started picking up his chopsticks. He looked at the appetising food laid on the table that gave him the urge to pick up and start munching. It’s not long when 3 familiar figures came through the door casually talking to each other.

Yuto saw Yamada, Rio and Louise happily walking side by side, going for Yuto’s table.

“Yo!” Yamada greeted Yuto with a smile and guided his way towards the nearest chair. Rio followed Yamada’s gesture and took the stool beside him. Then, Yuto’s smile became wider when he saw Louise sitting beside him and taking out her own lunch.

“Where have you guys been?” Yuto munched his food normally as he eyed the couple in front of him with a grin… “A date?” he continued that earned a slight blush from the girl sitting opposite Yuto.

“Idiot!” Yamada said, but smiled in the process… “My mum keeps pestering me about driving lessons so we tried asking Inoo-kun if he knows someone. Oka-san said I should be responsible for my own transportation so I won’t keep making Rio take the train with me… She actually lectured me for about an hour on how embarrassing I am as a boyfriend” Yamada continued his remark which made Louise and Yuto giggle.

“You don’t really have to tell the whole story to them, you know~” Rio interjected with a tint of blush obvious on her face as the teasing sound of their friends echoed in the room… “I’m feeling guilty enough…”

“Awww~ Ryosuke is actually thinking about our little Rio…” Louise continued her teasing before hearing the disturbing statement of Yuto that followed.

“I want to drive too!” Yuto proclaimed that made all pairs of eyes on his direction. He looked around and saw Louise giving her a peculiar look as if saying ‘you-can-never-do-it’. By this, Yuto frowned and just nearly gave up the idea. However, Rio’s statement lifted him up once again…

“Why don’t you ask Ruu-chan to teach you? She can drive...” Rio suddenly slipped that didn’t fail to make Louise nearly choke on her food. The idea of actually ‘teaching’ this clueless boy is far beyond Louise’s imagination… “She drives in Canada”

Louise slowly turned her head and saw a slightly widened eyes coming from Yuto.

“Ruu-chan… YOU CAN DRIVE?!” Yuto said in almost a shout. It’s not that Yuto doesn’t know his own girlfriend, it’s just that Louise is not the type that tells anyone about her own interests and hobbies unless that person is annoying enough to ask her.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Yuto pouted as if trying to make a good point of ‘always-tell-everything-to-your-boyfriend’ idea.

“You didn’t ask!” Louise defended that further made Yuto still on his place. It’s not long when a sudden idea hit him.

“You should teach me!” Yuto uttered that made Yamada and Rio amused on their places as they started looking at the worried expression Louise was making. Yuto squeezed her hand tightly and basically begged the girl to start his driving lessons.

“No~” Louise said firmly before taking a sip from his Green Tea Frappe.

“Please?”

“No~”

“I’ll treat you Green Tea Frappe every day” Yuto suggested. This sounds tempting but Louise took her place of not agreeing to anything Yuto throws at her. “No~” she said once again which made Yuto think of another good statement, pleasing to Louise’s ear.

“I KNOW!!” Yuto suddenly said… “I’ll teach you drums!”

By this, Louise froze. It’s been her dream to be able to beat the drums without making unnecessary noises. She’s been bugging Yuto about teaching her but the boy continually refuse simply because of his busy schedule.

Yamada and Rio, knowing this, chuckled and just waited for Louise’s response. There are few moments of silence as the bunch waited for her answer.

 “DEAL!” she said suddenly whilst giving off a wide smile on her face with the image the drums flashing before her eyes… “I think I’m gonna be a cooler drum player than you Mr. Nakajima” she teased but made Yuto smile in the process.

“I don’t think so… Playing the drums is not as easy as it looks Ruu-chan” Yuto gave off a discouraging look on his girlfriend, trying his best to look cool.

“I’m a fast learner… I think I can cope~”

//End of Flashback//

“I can’t seem to get that part!” Louise said to herself after repeatedly banging the drum set randomly. She then turned her gaze to Yuto who seems to be day dreaming on one side that made her call for his attention.

“OYY!” Louise poked Yuto’s cheek using her drumstick whilst giving off a small pout… “For a drum instructor, you’re not very good!” she remarked that definitely gained all Yuto’s gaze.

“I told you, it’s not that easy!” Yuto chuckled and joined Louise near the drum set… “Let’s try again…” he continued; positioning himself on his chair. He slowly tapped his feet along with the slow movement of his arms, producing a perfect beat. His actions are then slowly speeding up, allowing Louise to listen to the right tempo of the song.

“You just have to sync your every movement to the song. More like dancing… 1-2-3” he started with a serious face which is gone noticed by the amazed girl in front of him. Louise can’t help but give off a soft smile after seeing her Yuto willingly teaching her.

She then placed a soft peck on his cheek that made the taller boy stop for a moment as a tint of blush touched him.

“Now you’re acting like a real teacher… I have to say, you’re not that bad!”

It’s been about 4 days since Louise started her drum lessons with Yuto. Each day, they decided to meet up and have at least 3 hours of lesson time with unlimited beating of the drums heard within the Nakajima household.

Yuto enjoyed every single day he teaches Louise and the thought of giving up never came to him. He just found that being a hard headed student sometimes, as Louise always is, Yuto always finds it cute and the sense of being needed is felt throughout their time together.

“YATTA!! I finished the whole song!!” Louise cheered and proudly smiled at Yuto.

“You did?” Yuto teasingly approached the girl with a grin on his face… “I didn’t even noticed how you learn so fast” he continued and just can’t believe how cool his girlfriend was beating the same beat of his favourite song like he always does.

“I told you…” Louise said then gave Yuto a soft hug. However, a sudden change of atmosphere was felt as Yuto whispered something silently on near her ear.

“Now, let’s start MY lessons…” he stated that didn’t fail to make Louise bite her lower lip. She indeed forgot about the whole driving lesson thing as she is focused on beating the drums every day. With a sigh, she nodded slowly which made Yuto give off a loud “Yatta!” inside the room.

*next day*

“Yosh! Let’s do this!” Yuto excitedly sat on the driver’s seat and eyed all the parts of the vehicle. He positioned his long arms on the wheel, willing to start the engine before Louise even managed to sit on the passenger seat. However, Louise halted Yuto from touching the key in case the drummer boy let out another crazy idea.

“I just hope nothing bad will happen…” Louise said silently as she watched the bouncing Yuto near her… “I still can’t believe you persuaded your dad to let you borrow his car.”

“Well, I received a few lectures but I said I’m gonna pay for any loss or damage!”

Louise rolled her eyes and started giving instructions to the taller boy. She started by introducing all the parts of the vehicle; from the clutch, gas, break, how to turn on the windscreen and even how to turn on the radio.Random questions fired at Louise that made her answer every single one of them. She seriously eyed the tall boy beside her and gave off continuous instructions on how to be safe on the road and basically not get himself killed.

Yuto just stayed quiet and let Louise do all the talking – taking small important notes inside his head. However, the sight of Louise giving him dedicated looks gave off a random thought in his mind.

“Ruu-chan… Do I look cool driving?” he said with a wide smile that made Louise stop from her explanation on how to sense if there’s something wrong to the vehicle.

“What kind of question is that? And you're not even driving yet!” Louise looked at the boy weirdly and watched him change his expression. Sensing what Yuto is thinking, Louise just smiled and pinched Yuto’s nose… “Of course you are… But I’m cooler than you” she continued that made Yuto think on how the heck he’s losing to a girl like Louise – the drumming… and now this?

It’s been a few weeks since Yuto started his driving lessons with Louise and no progress came to them. Except for the event when Louise half-heartedly let Yuto to start the engine and make the car move a few meters from their house.

“That’s better than before ne?” Yuto proudly said after seeing them parked in the middle of the street away from the gate of their house.

“Yeah~ not bad… Better than last week when you nearly ran over an innocent tree!” Louise teasingly said that earned a slight frown from the latter.

“I promise to be the coolest driver for you~ just wait and see!”

*8 months later*

Louise heard the vibrating sound of her phone near her bed that slightly gained her attention. She moaned a little and started to take a different position to try and ignore the constant ringing of her mobile. She then took one of her pillow and buried her head on it but the disturbing sound of her phone is too much for her to disregard.

She then took her phone and pressed the ‘answer button’ without even looking at the name of the caller.

“Moshi moshi?” she said, with her voice partly broken, obvious that she just came from her sweet slumber.

“Ruu-chan?” A familiar voice came over the earpiece. It was Rio.

“Rio?”

“Ohayo...” she heard Rio said before looking at the time on her barely visible wall clock. Louise then frowned as she saw how early this unexpected call was. She then heard Yamada’s voice over the line that made her frown even more.

“Why are you calling this early? It’s 4am Rio-chan” she said with a faint voice… “And why can I hear Yama-chan's voice? Are you together? What did that ert did to you?” she suddenly asked that made Rio on the other end of the line silent for a moment. You see, Louise acts like a real senpai to Rio… and to Yamada? Well, they just tease each other until one gives up.

“N-No~” Rio said bashfully, obvious that she’s blushing… “I just called to tell you we’re picking you up in less than an hour so you better hurry up! We already called Auntie to let you come…” Rio said that made the half asleep Louise agree without even asking what their plan is.

Feeling the sleepiness coming through her, Louise put the phone down and peacefully succumbed in her slumber once again - treating the call like a dream.

*few hours later*

“Guys! SHUSH!! You’re gonna wake Ruu-chan up!”

Louise heard familiar voices around her that made her eyes involuntarily open. She slowly looked around and saw moving trees on the window before processing the fact that she’s in a moving van. She struggled for awhile but the shaking of the vehicle is enough to make her fully awake and do some necessary actions - think of why the heck is she on a moving vehicle!

Realising this, Louise looked around and saw her friends sitting peacefully near her – Yamada on her left and Rio on her right. She then turned around and saw Daiki, Line, Rina, Keito and Airi behind her –sleeping.

“Oh Ruu-chan… Ohayo!” Line said silently, trying not to wake the people behind them.

“I had a few driving lessons myself Yuto… and for a person who just passed his test, you’re not that bad!” Louise suddenly heard Inoo’s voice upfront that made her look who took the driving seat. She squinted her eyes and tried her best to recognise the man stirring the wheel perfectly as it seems.

Within seconds, she saw a familiar built in front with his usual long arms, wearing his white t-shirt. She can say that the one driving is quite nervous as he listens to Inoo praising his driving skills. By this, Louise took off her seat belt and leaned forward to see a clear complexion of the familiar boy, but to her surprise, she saw her very own Yuto making the vehicle move successfully.

“E-EH??! Y-Yuto??” she said almost in a shout that made all people in the vehicle soon to be wide awake.

“Ruu-chan~ Ohayo… Sorry we kidnapped you…” Yuto chuckled whilst leading his way to the wheel. Louise was left speechless and just pinched her cheeks, doubting that the whole thing isn’t real.

“B-But… You can barely park the car last week! Now you’re driving???!!” Louise said in disbelief. The whole bunch inside the car just laughed as if knowing what was happening.

“I guess my acting skills aren’t that bad after all… I just got my driving license before our lesson last week~ I was meaning to surprise you…”

“Where exactly are we going?” Louise said, still processing the whole travelling thing as she looked at her state – still in her pyjamas.

“To the beach!!” Rina, Rio, and Airi echoed each other’s voices as they saw the clear blue colour of the sea outside the window. They excitedly fixed their things whilst shaking Daiki, Yamada and Keito to wake up, leaving the clueless Louise in the state of not believing anything. 

She eyed Yuto perfectly parking the van near the sea and saw 8 figures of her friends got out of the van. She then pulled herself up and leaned her head closer to the driver’s seat – ready to interrogate the driver who seems to be fidgeting with the whole vehicle.

“Y-You!! You dare hide things from me Mister?!” she demanded as these things are just happening so fast…

“Sorry Ruu-chan… I decided to take driving lessons apart from yours” Yuto smiled and released the buckle of his seatbelt… “Now, Am I cool enough?” he chuckled then left a quick peck on Louise lips that just gave the signal to make her glare at him – clearly in a state full of doubtful ideas.

“By the way, you look cute on your PJs!”
