He was half in love with her and had been for some time now. The other half of him argued that he had no right to have feelings for her, she was his job and a close friend, and was meant to be nothing more. He'd known her since the day she was born, before she had grown into her dangerous beauty, and he into his long limbs. Back then his father was her body guard, before he'd grown old and passed the position down to his son.

It was good money, and a pretty easy job- not many people dared to attack the daughter of the most prestigous duke in the land, especially not if said female was betrothed to the prince. Betrothed to the prince- it nearly broke him to know she belonged to another man, though it wasn't his place to care. And everytime her sparkling (color) eyes dimmed at the mention of her marriage, he wanted to scoop her into his long arms and run, far away so they'd never be found and she'd never be subjected to be anything other than herself.

He dreamt of the day he would wed her, an impossible dream but one that helped him to carry out each day. And every one of those days he made it through, he spent some small portion plotting, a scheme that he could never carry out... or could he? No, he couldn't, he wouldn't. He'd do his job and leave it at that, he would protect her from all harm. But who will save her from his love?
