It seems like Seulgi had acquired everything necessary for the quintessential life many sought to have, at a tender age.
There’s even whispers that she may soon pop a significant question to her beloved, embarking on a fresh and thrilling journey into the realm of matrimony.
One might expect jubilation to course through her veins, her heart pulsating with excitement at the prospect of this new chapter in her life.
She should be happy, right?
Excited even?
After all, isn't this the pinnacle of happiness?
However, underneth the surface if one were to delve deeper, where no one could see, peeling away the layers beyond the radiant façade of success and happiness, they would uncover a complex storm of emotions within Seulgi's heart.
It's a tumultuous whirlwind, a complicated amalgamation of distress and ambivalence that rages silently beneath the serene surface she exudes, trembling with a horrendous blend of distraught and indecision that she knows shouldn’t be there.
There exists an elusive, intangible thing holding her back from fully embracing this impending new chapter in her life, casting an eerie shadow on her otherwise dazzling life.
Within the confines of solitude, an eerie and perplexing disgust asserts itself with undeniable presence. Its haunting nature becomes particularly pronounced when she is in the company of her partner, like a spectral force that refuses to be ignored.
This inexplicable force acts as an unseen restraint, a binding shackle that prevents her from wholeheartedly embracing the new chapter that beckons in her life. It's as though the past exerts a powerful gravitational pull, anchoring her to its memories and experiences.
And what is the connection between this enigmatic unease in her current romance and her past, a chapter she had ostensibly sealed away, yet one that remains etched in her heart with unforgettable memories that refuses to fade into obscurity?
This question lingers in the air, an persistent demand for answers, weaving a complex web of intrigue and nostalgia, further complicating the intricate mosaic that is Kang Seulgi's life.
Foreword
This story is entirely inspired by the hauntingly beautiful and poignant song 'Glimpse of Us' by the multi-faceted artist George Miller, aka Filthy Frank, aka Pink Guy, aka Joji and to fuel my need to read and consume sad, bleak, dystopian and overall depressing media.
I just wanted to make a story with a depressive and emotional tone to it. Something that I have been craving to make for some time.
The song weaves intricate musical motifs, creating a captivating contrast that mirrors the complexities and intricate nature of relationships.
The melancholic production and evocative music video delve into the chaotic spiral of one's psyche after the soul-shattering breakup, exploring the desolation and turmoil that follows. Amidst the chaos and anarchy, a somber reality sinks in, leaving a lasting impact that was such an interesting contrast and relatability.
The combination of songs with "happy" musical production and "sad" lyrics combined with the concept of "picturesque" and "couple goals" individuals projecting themselves on social media ignited the spark for this story. I personally wonder about these people, whether their seemingly perfect lives online genuinely reflect their own happiness or if it's all a façade, an attempt to make themselves look better, along with gaslighting themselves into believing so. Does the facade they present hide a deeper, unspoken sadness that they don't want to admit? Does those who bring joy to others genuinely find contentment, or is there an unseen struggle lurking beneath the surface?
Sorry for my random musical analysis that no one asked for.
Personally, I really related to the emotional aspects that the song made me feel, and it inspired me to make a story laced with melancholy and emotional depth, something that I wanted to write for some time.
For this story, I'll be utilizing the lyrics, some of the ideas made in the music video and theme that even when surrounded by friends and family, one can still feel alone in the world.
This story is going to be a multi-chaptered, because I can't, for the life of me, write a one-shot without it being too complicated. And like a lot of my stories so far, it's going to complex, nuanced and extremely explicit and way too descriptive, to the point of it being sort of unnecessary.
I strongly recommend listening to the song while reading. So that you can get yourselves immersed in the mood, atmosphere and narrative.
