Chapter 1 - I Never Thought This Day Would Come
DANGEROUS 위험해 危険Sana Minatozaki has always been attracted to danger—a total opposite of what and how she is. Other people view her as a sweet, obedient, smart and jolly daughter, friend, classmate, acquaintance, student and even stranger; but behind Sana’s façade hides a woman fascinated with danger, like Yuta Nakamoto.
Yuta Nakamoto, a senior Seoul National University (like Sana), is quiet. That was how people described him, just quiet. Sometimes they call him “the quiet boy from Engineering” or “or the one that has piercing eyes” if you get him to look at you. Yuta’s features would make you think he was just some normal student with intense eyes and a quiet persona. He barely has friends and doesn’t talk much (unless needed) and his aura is very mysterious. A lot of people, even his professors, think so too but no one dared to ask as they were afraid what they might find out.
Sana would always wait for Yuta by the university library every afternoon at 3pm. She doesn’t have his schedule, she has just observed that he usually visits the library during that certain time, stays there for about an hour then proceeds to go to his scheduled classes. Sana was happy she had free time the same time as him—everyday. She follows him in, sits at a safe distance and watches him as he pretends to read but really; he was just sleeping. She lays her head on the table and watches him fondly, daydreaming that one day, she’d be sitting beside him and they nap together in the library. The thought made her giggle.
Sana instantly got attracted to Yuta the moment she saw him. It was by the Administration building. She was absentmindedly walking, fixing her things in her bag when someone running hit her –hard—that caused her to fall to the ground and her papers to fly everywhere.
“Oh no!” she shouted and immediately started gathering the papers, but the person who bumped into her was quicker as he was already handing her all the papers that flew and says a quick “sorry” before running to the admin building when Sana was already holding onto her documents. Sana, who was still sitting on the floor, was looking at the retreating figure of the man who bumped into her. She wasn’t even mad he didn’t help her up. Her heart was racing and her mind was screaming “I want to see him again!”. Something in his aura wanted her to get to know him more, she was attracted. She was getting pulled by his presence even after she’d lost sight of him. She knew right there and then; she needs to have him. No matter what.
That was in their freshman year. She groans to herself. They’re already seniors and she hasn’t made a move to get to know him yet. Not that she really actually has any plans to approach him. As friendly as she is, she was also very shy. Even just getting to know Yuta’s name already made her all cold and red; she tried to ask one of his classmates from one class (she can’t remember what) and when she got it (it made her ecstatic that they we’re both Japanese) she ran away with a squeak of “thank you!”, quickly getting out of Yuta’s classmate’s sight which had him scratching his head in confusion as to what just happened.
Sana hid her face on the table, embarrassed at the memory and sad at the thought that she’d just be staring at Yuta from afar until they graduate.
She was already falling asleep, suddenly not wanting to stare at Yuta as she was getting sad, when she felt something on her arm. She grabbed the sticky note and frowned when she saw that Yuta wasn’t sitting in his seat anymore. Sana read the note and gasped a little, eyes wide. Her heart was pounding in her chest, her hands were cold and wet and she could feel her ears heating up.
“MEET ME AT THE BACK OF THE LIBRARY, NOW”
The note was demanding, there was no name but she had a feeling who wrote it. She was suddenly nervous even though she wanted to feel excited but she didn’t want to hope.
Sighing, she stands to go to follow the note, not even thinking what could happen to her. She doesn’t even know what the back of the library looks like as she has never been there, although a few glances, you could see that it was full of trees.
As Sana nears the meeting place, half of her body started feeling afraid while the other half was starting to get excited. She didn’t wanna expect, she didn’t even want to think of the possibility that it was him who wrote the note. But all of her doubts and fears disappeared when she saw who was waiting for her.
Yuta Nakamoto was standing by the wall of the building, hands in his denim jacket’s pockets while his shoulder length black hair is falling on and covering his pretty face. Sana could hear and feel her heartbeat in her ears as she approaches him, she was trying not to smile and she could feel her cheeks strain from preventing herself from doing so. Yuta looked up at her, face unreadable as he leans on his side to get a better look then he smiles just the slightest; Sana felt her heart stopped a bit then hammered again when that smile disappeared and he started walking towards her when she was near. She stopped walking and just waited for him, not knowing what to expect.
“You like me.” Yuta states, not wincing at his own words nor any hint of shyness. His voice was so smooth that Sana wanted to melt in front of him but what he said suddenly makes its way into her brain and that was now her reason for wanting to melt. She didn’t think Yuta would know, let alone notice her existence.
“I- I…“ Sana stammers as she steps back with Yuta stepping forward towards her until her back hits the wall, sinking a bit when Yuta placed a hand beside her head, leaning down to bring his face closer to her. Sana was intoxicated. Yuta smelled so good she was getting dizzy, and him being so dangerously close wasn’t helping. She tries to take a peek up at his handsome face and regretted that she did. She has always known that he was handsome but with him being that close, he was breathtaking. Sana’s eyes landed on Yuta’s lips and she immediately looked down, trying to keep her breathing calm. Her mind was racing and her heart was beating so loud she bet he could hear it. She was beyond embarrassed as to how she was reacting to him but she can’t help it. Sana had been dreaming of the day she’d get this close to Yuta, although not in this situation.
Yuta decided to break the silence. “You’re cute…” he says, almost a whisper, voice smooth as silk and Sana wasn’t able to fully absorb what he said as he tilts her head up—easily—by the chin, with a finger and presses his lips to hers.
Sana was sure she could hear fireworks the moments their lips touched. She has always longed and dreamed for this to happen, but never imagined it would be this good. Without thinking, she places her hands on his shoulders to hold onto him as her knees were suddenly weak and kisses him back, soft and sweet until he decided to take the kiss a to another level when he deepened it, tongue slipping between her lips and sliding with her own; making her body heat up instantly and a moan slip through their lips and into Yuta’s mouth. She could swear she heard him moan but wasn’t able to fully register it when he suddenly pulled back although still very close, enough for her to feel his breath on her face. It was hot and somewhat comforting and made her want him more.
She was catching her breath as well, although she was pretty sure she was breathless after their lips parted. She looked down again, avoiding his gaze to hide her flushed cheeks and the sweat beading on her forehead, some falling down her cheeks. It was almost spring and it was still cold as heck but she was sweating so hard it was embarrassing.
Yuta tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ear, his other hand resting on her lower back. Sana wasn’t sure when it landed there but she sure doesn’t mind it. The hand that tucked her hair was suddenly touching so softly it made her eyes flutter close, momentarily forgetting that this was their official first time to talk to each other; although there wasn’t any talking happening yet.
Sana took the courage to get out of her bliss and forces her eyes open to look at Yuta, but that faltered when she saw he was just staring at her—fondly is she may add. She cleared to ask Yuta (more like wake her up) what just happened, but the moment she opened to talk, it was interrupted by Yuta.
“So…dinner, tonight?” was what he said that immediately earned a stupid “uh-huh” from her and a –slightly—eager nod.
Without giving her time to fully absorb the situation, he presses a kiss on her forehead and slips another paper in the pocket of her hoodie and walks away from her; leaving her gaping at him with her feet rooted on the ground unable to believe any of those really happened.
Kyungbokkung Sadang, 7pm. 010-9882-2883
Sana stared at the note in her palm, again, for the nth time during her class after meeting with Yuta. It was weird, what happened the hour prior to her sitting in class, and still unbelievable.
She looked up to glance at her professor but she can’t seem to hear him even though she can see his lips moving. She can’t focus no matter how hard she tried. Her mind was filled with Yuta—his face, his height, his hair, his notes, his scent, his lips, ”oh my god, his lips…” she thought then groans as she lay her head on the table, turning to face the window. She was thankful her professor doesn’t mind them not really paying attention; as long as they pass his class without cheating.
She closes her eyes and imagines Yuta and his lips and how wonderful they felt on hers, kissing her softly and then hard. She had to squeeze her legs together and prevent herself from releasing incoherent moans while in class. It was her first real kiss and it was perfect. It was unplanned and unexpected and so, so perfect! She wasn’t even expecting there’d be a second time and the thought made her blush; she shouldn’t even be expecting anything after that. What if Yuta was a player and decided to play with her because she looked gullible or that he knows she likes him that was why he kissed her out of the blue?
Sana covered her face with her palms, thinking that maybe Yuta was just making fun of her because she obviously liked him a lot—maybe he knew she was somewhat following him and that he knows she had been telling her friends about her “love” for him. Love—Sana didn’t exactly love him, she just likes him a lot that even though they don’t really know each other, she was obsessed and that she always talks about him. To her friends, she was always “Yuta, Yuta, Yuta”. She peeks through her fingers and saw that their professor was starting to wrap up the class which relieved her because she was getting angsty from her thoughts.
She lets out a sigh of relief when their professor walked out the door and she sat up, noticing Yuta’s note on her table. She checks the time and saw that she had ample amount to get ready; she didn’t have classes anymore. Is she really going to their meet-up place? Was it even real? Or was he just trying to pull a prank on her? She stared at the number written on the note, doubting if it was really his number.
Without thinking, she dialed the number on her mobile phone and after a few rings, the voice of the one who answered made her freeze.
“Hello?”
Sana was finding it hard to speak, she was stunned. It was really Yuta. They haven’t really spoken to each other and she doesn’t hear his voice often, but she knows that voice. It was the same voice that said that she was cute. It made her blush again.
A chuckle made her snap back to reality, she checked the screen to see that the call was still on. His voice sounded so smooth and velvety; Sana could listen to it on repeat. She placed it on her ear again and just listened, waiting for him to speak again.
“You don’t have to talk. I’ll see you later anyways, yes?”
He was serious about dinner, about tonight. Sana blinked twice as if she was trying to wake herself up. He was serious!
She bit her lower lip then breathed in deep and slowly let it out, hoping he hadn’t heard it but she was sure he did. Sana managed an “of course…” trying to sound composed although she was sure it came out almost a squeak; she heard him smile, though she wasn’t sure how that was possible.
“I’ll be waiting, then.” The call ended.
Sana grabbed her things and dashed out the door, 7pm with Yuta running through her mind.
