“You’re the friends of Lee Junghwan, correct?” the doctor said as his eyes scrolled through the papers he held. 

     “Nae,” Shinwoo replied, sounding hopeful, meanwhile Gongchan stayed silent as he prepared for the worst. 

     The doctor scratched his head as he mentally fit his words together, “I don’t know how to put this exactly. We looked through Junghwan’s files, and we came across his obituary. My team and I are puzzled at the fact that he’s supposed to be… dead. Do any of you an idea of why he’s not in a graveyard and how he has a faint heartbeat?”

     Shinwoo could feel his hands shake with nervousness as he took off his foggy glasses to clean them with his shirt. “I guess he-uh… was revived when he was hit by lightning a couple weeks ago. Another friend of ours found him ‘alive’ and took him to my place so we could keep an eye on him.”

     Hitting his palm against his forehead, the doctor gave a sigh full of frustration, “It took you this long to seek medical attention? Weren’t any of you thinking that perhaps Junghwan would be better off in our hands and that he would have had a better chance of getting his health back?”

     Gongchan’s lip quivered as he spoke, “So… there’s nothing you can do? Is that what you’re saying?”

     “No. I’m just scolding you two for your foolishness,” his eyes were back on the papers. “I’m not like your average doc, I guess you could say. I’m sure anyone else would give up on this case,” creases appeared at his eyes as he smiled warmly. “Mister Lee Junghwan has substantial brain damage, but I am certain we can repair it with minimal after-effects with a new procedure we can try. And as for his broken leg, I’m sure he’ll heal decently after we put him in a cast and bring him back from the…” he cleared his throat, “dead.”

     Shinwoo and Gongchan held their jaws open in shock at the doctor’s words, unable to believe their ears. Then, at the same time, Shinwoo and Gongchan looked at each other, as if they needed confirmation that the other heard the same thing, and if it was real. They hugged each other and jumped for joy as tears clouded their vision. 

     “He’s coming back! He might actually be coming back!” Gongchan stepped back to dry his eyes. 

     “Nae!” Shinwoo grinned bigger than he had in a long time. “Hey, Doc. If this all does work, when will Sand-I mean Junghwan be back to normal?”

     “If this treatment is successful, it could be anywhere between a few days and a few months,” he said looking up at the ceiling deep in thought. “Since we’re using new technology, it’s hard to estimate an exact timeframe. Now, if you would excuse me, I need to return to my patients. We will contact Junghwan’s family and give them the news. I’m sure they’ll be more than just happy to hear that he’ll be back. Hopefully as good as new.”

     “Jeongmal, jeongmal gamsahamnida!” Shinwoo and Gongchan both thanked him and bowed before he left. 

     “We have to call the others and tell them what’s going on!” Gongchan exclaimed, hopping with happiness and excitement. 

     “I’m on it,” Shinwoo said as he quickly dialed Jinyoung’s number. “Hey, Jinyoung. You two haven’t been fighting again, have you?”

     Jinyoung’s voice could be heard on the other line, “No. In fact, we’ve made up and decided to stay in the band. All five of us, no matter what happens.”
