3 Identities of my Mysterious Wife

"Mihye?" L.Joe called softly.

Mihye jumped slightly and looked up from the book she was pretending to read. Her mind was off in the clouds as she stared blanky at the words that danced merrily around the pages. She stiffened when she saw that it was her husband, and she forced a smile. "Byunghun oppa."

L.Joe moved over to the bench she was sitting on and plopped himself next to her. He smiled as he looked around at the garden. "This feels nice." he commented. Mihye's head snapped over to him and raised her brows questioningly.

"I mean this." L.Joe gestured with a smile. "You and me. Sitting leisurely like this." he grinned. "Feels like we're really married doesn't it?"

Mihye felt a lump clot in as tears gathered at her eyes again. *No. Please don't say things like this, Byunghun oppa.* she thought desperately. "*Because maybe to you it's fake, but to me you're really my husband.*

Mihye remained silent and stared at her book, playing with her fingers. L.Joe frowned and noticed her odd behavior that had been going on for days. Just what was bothering this dear wife of his? Why didn't she smile brightly when she saw him? Why did she always look like something else was on her mind? What happened?

L.Joe moved closer to Mihye and sensed as she stiffened. The frown on his face deepened. *Is she uncomfortable with me?* he thought. "Hey Mihye..." L.Joe stared. "You know there's this Korean traditional food fair and I thought maybe you'd want to go with m-"

"I'm tired Byunghun oppa." Mihye shut her book and stood up abruptly. "I'm going to sleep." she avoided his eyes and darted straight up to their room. L.Joe watched as she went, a sinking feeling in his stomach and confusion set in.

"Something really happened." L.Joe frowned. "Why is she avoiding me? Does she not return my feelings? But I haven't even confessed yet!" he pouted.

He sighed and got out his phone, trying to message his favourite talking buddy of all time again, Miss Apple. He grinned slightly when he thought of Mihye. "Come to think of it, Mihye's kinda like Miss Apple in some ways. Sometimes direct and always stubborn."

He typed a message and hoped that this time his Miss Apple would solve his problems again.

To: Miss Apple

Hey Apple!! I think you're becoming my Love Guru nowadays. But you don't mind don't you? (: Helping such a handsome young man like me is indeed your honour. JK (:
Well I just wanted to ask if you have any clue what I should do if a girl avoids you. You know the girl I love? She's been avoiding me for days and I have no idea what caused that to happen. You think you could help me?

From: L.Joe

Upstairs, Mihye received L.Joe's message and she froze. When she read to the line "The girl I love", the lump automatically returned to and she closed her eyes for a moment to resist the temptation to cry. She breathed heavily and gazed at her phone forlornly.

"How am I supposed to answer this, Byunghun oppa?" she whispered brokenly. "How am I supposed to give you advice or help when you're using it on another girl? How can I watch you do this with a smile? I'm not a superwoman, Oppa. Sometimes I really can't do it."

With that, she threw her phone and her bed and ignored it.

L.Joe noticed with a sinking heart that while Mihye and him drifted further, Kevin and Mihye seemed to become closer and closer. While Mihye would avoid L.Joe, not blatantly but subtly, but still detectable when L.Joe took note of everything about her, Mihye seemed to turn to Kevin whenever she had problems.

When L.Joe tried to find something to talk about to Mihye, she'd give him one word answers or even just a nod. Her unresponsive manner would immediately disappear when Kevin was in the premises and she'd somehow include Kevin in the conversation. And soon, it was Kevin and Mihye talking, leaving L.Joe to watch.

L.Joe sensed Kevin's affections for his wife. It was obvious. And it pissed him off thoroughly even though he knew that Kevin knew. That he didn't actually have any claim over Mihye when her heart wasn't his. They were bounded by law, not by heart.

L.Joe grew increasingly mad one day when something else happened.

It was Saturday and L.Joe didn't have to work. He thought he'd try to bond with Mihye again, finding a chance to recover the relationship they had before Mihye turned odd all of a sudden. He liked what they shared in the past. That connection and charge that was undeniable.

He suggested for the both of them to take a walk around their estate, and perhaps ride the horses if Mihye was interested. Mihye had initially tried so hard to refuse his offer, but his shining pleading eyes were really hard to ignore, and she soon found herself wearing a riding suit and following L.Joe as he took her hand.

She gulped as she stared at the way his hand held hers in this soft gently but possessive manner, making her heart cringe. *Does he hold the other girl's hand like this too?* she thought jealously.

L.Joe turned behind and threw her a charming smile. That crooked smile of his reserved only for her, only that she didn't know. "Have you rode?" he asked. "I can't believe we've been married for so long and this is the first time I'm bringing you riding our horses."

Mihye shook her head. "Never." she answered, looking on the ground. She looked at the horses and bit her lip. She hadn't done anything like this before. Perhaps she could bungee jump, but horses? Hmm...

"Don't worry." L.Joe grinned at ther panicked expression and curled a lock of hair behind her ear, causing her to blush lightly. "I'll be riding with you if you're scared."

Mihye's eyes widened. *Riding with me?* she thought nervously. *But then our bodies will be so close!* she panicked.

Even if L.Joe sensed her discomfort, he didn't show. He helped her up the back of the horse and helped himself up behind her. Mihye bit her lip, feeling his chest against her back in this awfully intimate way that made her heart pound loudly in her chest.

"Are you ready?" L.Joe whispered in her ear, his breath brushing her skin.

Mihye nodded shakily. L.Joe let out a low chuckle and reached over for the reins, instructing her to hold on to them as well. His arms were practically around her, like he was hugging her from the back. Touch was at it's maximum right now, and so was Mihye's heart rate.

She couldn't stand doing this and enjoying the feel of his arms when she knew someone else was doing the same when she wasn't around. These arms were meant to hug someone else, not her.

Before she could voice out her discomfort, a voice interrupted the two of them.

"Mihye ah! You have a call from Jiyeon!" Kevin popped out from nowhere and yelled. Mihye let out a sigh of relief and hopped off the horse with Kevin's help, darting into the mansion again.

L.Joe frowned as Mihye went off into the house without a backward glance, and narrowed his eyes at Kevin. "I didn't hear the phone ring." he commented dryly as he got down his horse.

Kevin smirked as he crossed his arms. "Because it didn't. I lied." he grinned. "I just love separating you two."

L.Joe's eyes widened. Before Kevin knew what was happening, a fist threw itself in his face and he staggered backwards.

"Bastard!" L.Joe roared.
