Happy Birthday

3 Identities of my Mysterious Wife

Mihye trudged home, tired.

She hadn't found any possible links to J.T. What was J.T? Is it someone's name? Is it an organization? Is it a company?

She was completely worn out from the whole ordeal and she really needed some rest. It was almost twelve midnight, and she suddenly wondered if L.Joe was home yet. Checking her phone, she saw that he sent her a message just minutes ago that he was wrapping up the meeting and was going to go home soon.

"That means he isn't home yet." Mihye muttered. A slight crease formed at her brows. "Byunghun oppa's so busy these days."

She opened the door, trying to keep her eyes opened, when a sudden loud pop rang throughout the room and millions of colours flashed in front of her eyes. "Kyaaaahhh!!" Mihye yelped in surprise and leaped backwards.

"SURPRISEEEE!!!" Kevin appeared out of nowhere, wearing a blue party hat and blowing a whistle. Mihye blinked and stepped inside the house cautiously, surprised to find streamers and balloons dotting every available space in the house. "What's the occasion?" Mihye asked in interest, the initial shock wearing itself out, and also dissipating her fatigue.

Kevin frowned at her. "You don't even know what day it is today?" he looked surprised.

Mihye shook her head, boggled. "Eh? Today's a special day?" she blurted, scratching her head confusedly. Kevin gave her a look that made her realize that she should have known, but she didn't.

"It's your birthday, babo!" Kevin knocked on her head lightly. "You don't even remember your own birthday?" he chided softly. Mihye's eyes widened and she whipped her phone out, checking the date.

He was right. It was her birthday. And she completely forgot about it.

"You're right." Mihye gasped. She looked at him with wide eyes. "How did you know, Kevin oppa?"

Kevin gave her a small smile. "I make it a point to know." *Everything about you.* he added in his mind. He ushered Mihye into the dining room and Mihye gasped again.

Kevin rubbed the back of his neck in an awkward manner. "I know you said you didn't need dinner tonight, but I thought maybe you were hungry after the day at the organization." he murmured shyly. "I didn't get to say happy birthday to you this morning. You ran out immediately after Byunghun rushed to work. Both of you don't even spend time at home now!" he grumbled, but only really meaning the part where SHE wasn't at home. He didn't really care about L.Joe's existence now.

He made her sit on the chair. "We have to sing the birthday song, Mihye ah~" he grinned, disappearing into the kitchen. Mihye looked at the table full of mouth watering goodies, like cupcakes, icecream, log cakes, cherries, strawberries, chocolate fondue, marshmellows, cheesecake, and many more.

"I wonder how long it took to make all these." Mihye muttered, moved by Kevin's initiative.

The lights suddenly went out and a beautiful voice rang throughout the house. "Saengil chukhahabnida~ Saengil chukhahabnida~" Kevin appeared in the doorway with a two tier white chocolate cake, singing with a bright smile on his face.

"Omo!" Mihye gasped. Kevin smiled at her and continued advancing, his eyes never leaving hers. "Saengil chukha uri Mihye, Saengil chukhahabnida~~~" he arrived in front of her and placed the cake on the table.

"Make a wish." he probed, when Mihye just stared at the wonderfully made cake in front of her, almost close to drooling.

Mihye nodded with a smile and closed her eyes. Kevin smiled softly as he watched her, imprinting the current scene in his mind. Mihye blew out the candles and they clapped. "Happy birthday, Mihye! You're already 21!" he hooted.

Mihye giggled. Her eyes fell on the cake again and Kevin had to laugh at how she really tried not to keep her gaze on him, but failed. "You look like you want to just plunge into the cake itself." Kevin teased lightly. Mihye gave him a look, but didn't deny. Kevin used a knife to slice the intricate cake up and gave the biggest slice to her. "Happy Birthday Mihye." he smiled. "I'm sorry this is all I can give you on your birthday. I don't have spare cash after paying for my architechture lessons and I couldn't give you a gift. That's why I made you so many goodies."

Mihye shook her head at him. "It's okay, Kevin oppa. I'm happy as it is that you gave me such a grand celebration!" she gestured to the whole house. "Thank you. I love it." she beamed.

"Except for the fact that I may really get fat." Mihye added with an afterthought.

Kevin laughed and ruffled her hair, watching her eat the cake. "Is it good?" he asked curiously. Mihye gave thumbs up and smiled cutely. "MAA!" she praised for a second, before stuffing with the cake again. Kevin chuckled and settled beside her, peeking at her. *I'm glad I get to spend time with you on your birthday, Mihye. Even if it's only for a few moments.*

The two of them ate half of the cake before they were completely full, and had to keep the rest of the untouched goodies. Then, Kevin whipped out his second surprise of the day. "Mini fireworks!" he grinned. "We've got to celebrate your birthday with lots of stars!"

The two of them ran out to the garden and lit the whole bunch of fireworks. Mihye giggled happily as she ran around with two sticks of firewords, drawing patterns in the night sky. She needed this badly, this parallel paradise where she could temporarily forget about what happened to Boram and Eunjung and the urgency of those matters.

For now, she was just Choi Mihye, an ordinary girl that was celebrating her birthday with her friend Kevin.

"Before I forget, this parcel came for you this afternoon." Kevin passed her a box that was wrapped in pink wrapping paper. Mihye tore the box open excitedly and found herself staring at a cute pink mink coat.

Happy Birthday our bestie!

Sorry we weren't able to give you the gift just now. We thought it wasn't appropriate when Boram was there, and the atmosphere was so dull and sad.
Happy 21st and hope you will find that happy ending with the Knight of yours! *winks*

Love,
Hyomin, Qri & Jiyeon

*Aww those girls.* Mihye smiled happily. She knew that mink coat didn't come in cheap and she would treasure it with all her heart because they came from people she loved.

All of a sudden, bright blaring lights shone in Mihye's and Kevin's faces as a luxury Bentley rolled into the driveway. A lethargic L.Joe got out of the driver's seat and his eyes widened when he saw Kevin and Mihye in the garden with a whole lot of fireworks.

He frowned and glanced at his watch. It was nearly 1pm.

"Hey." he smiled tiredly at Mihye. "What are the two of you doing? It's late, you should go to sleep."

"Arraso." Mihye smiled at him and took his coat as usual to hang it, and darted into the house. L.Joe rubbed his eyes that were slightly unfocused from the fireworks. He looked at his hyung.

"Hyung, what's with the sudden fireworks?" L.Joe asked. "Trying to relive childhood?" he joked.

Kevin glared at L.Joe menacingly, making the latter startled with his response. "You're so dumb sometimes, Byunghun." he grumbled. "Don't you know what day it is today?"

L.Joe blinked. He shook his head.

"Aish." Kevin put out the fireworks and began keeping them. "It's your wife's birthday for god's sake. And you don't even remember." he chided.

L.Joe's eyes widened.

"Mihye's birthday?" his jaw dropped. "I didn't know!"

Kevin rolled his eyes as he sauntered back into the house. "If you wanted to know, nothing's stopping you from knowing." he grumbled. He shut the door in L.Joe's face, muttering under his breath. "Aish. I know they're just on contract marriage, but shouldn't he treat her better? I hope these six months end quickly and I can just whisk Mihye away. She shouldn't be with a husband that doesn't even remember her birthday." he muttered, disappointed that L.Joe's arrival shortened the time he could spend with Mihye.

L.Joe stared at the door in shock. Guilt washed through him and he groaned. "Damn it Lee Byunghun. What kind of a husband are you to not know your wife's birthday!" he scolded himself.

He pulled out his phone. *It's time to ask Miss Apple for tips.*
