“Do not, I repeat, do not let him in this house ever again!”

The Significance of One

Ri In’s POV

“Mistress, there is someone that wants to see you. He said his name is Han Geng,” the maid said.

“You can let him in,” Ri In said. After a short while, Han Geng came in.

He gasped when he saw me.

“OMO! Li Yin! What happened?!” Han Geng gasped.

“Nothing much. It’s just a minor injury. I will get well soon. Don’t worry,” I assured him. His faced turned from, tensed to relaxed.

“Good, you scared the daylights out of me. Seeing you with a plastered foot. What happened, anyway?” Han Geng asked.

“Oh, nothing. I just tripped, that’s all,” I lied.

“I don’t believe you. How can you only trip but have a plastered leg?” Han Geng asked me.

“Nothing. Now, do you not trust your best friend?” I asked.

“No! I trust you. OK, I will not ask any more,” Han Geng said.

The rest of the night, I and Han Geng talked with each other.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Junsu’s POV

“Junsu?” someone called out to me. I turned around and saw Hee Bon. For some reason, I wasn’t angry at her. I didn’t know why, but I wasn’t.

“Yeah?” I asked.

“I saw Han Kyung talking on the phone and mentioning finding where Ri In is and going to her,” Hee Bon explained. What!? What was he going to do now? I have to get home as soon as possible!

“OK. Thanks, Hee Bon,” I thanked and dashed off to my car.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

R In’s POV

I was chatting with Han Geng happily in the lounge room when suddenly, the front door opened, revealing a very angry and fuming Junsu. I was shocked. What was he doing here? I thought he had to go to the graduation party and won’t be home by later then nine but it was only eight.

“Junsu-shii, what are you doing here?” I asked.

“Get out, Han Kyung,” he commanded, coldly.

“Why? I have my rights to be here and talking to my best friend,” Han Geng said. Wait! Does Junsu know Han Geng? He knows Han Geng’s name though, so I guess so.

“Like you treat her as your best friend,” scoffed Junsu. What was Junsu saying?

“What are you saying, Junsu?” Han Geng asked, innocently.

“Get out before I call the police,” Junsu said. He smiled a fake smile. Hen Geng turned to look at me. I knew there was trouble brewing so I gave him one of those ‘go-before-he-kills-you’ look. He was hesitant at first but later gave in and walked to the front door. He opened the door and left. Junsu walked directly up the stairs, not acknowledging me. I felt pained. Why is he just telling Han Geng to go away and then leave me? Suddenly, he turned to me.

“Why was he at our house?” Junsu asked, coldly.

“I don’t know,” I answered honestly.

*BAM!* there goes the thunder. I whimpered a little. I was scared of thunder.

“Do not, I repeat, do not let him in this house ever again!” Junsu commanded.

*SLASH* the sound of lightening. I was scared to death. Unconsciously, tears rolled down my eyes but luckily the electricity was out so Junsu didn’t see me crying. It wasn’t the lightening that scared me, but it was what Junsu said to me. The volume of his voice was very loud. I was scared. He stormed up the stairs, leaving me down stairs. I gently rolled myself onto the sofa from my wheel chair. I got up very carefully using my hands and settled myself on the sofa.

*BAM!* the sound of thunder was heard again.

I quickly grabbed the nearest thing to me, which was a pillow, and hugged it tightly to me.

*SLASH!*BAM!* the lightening, followed by the sound of thunder, roared. It was getting louder and louder. I hugged the pillow to myself while the tears cascaded down my cheeks. The night went pass in coldness. I didn’t have any blanket with me and I was shaking and shivering in the cold night. The windows were open, letting the strong wind sweep through. I didn’t dare go to close it because there is thunder and lightning every single minute and it isn’t convenient for a disabled person like me. I was cold and tired. Every single minute there was thunder, making me cry even louder. Where did the maids go, you ask. Well they work here part time so they are not here in the night. There was thunder again. I cried louder. I cried myself to sleep, shivering in the cold with numb fingers and feet. But it was good that I could sleep but I can be sure that I will catch a cold tomorrow.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------Junsu’s POV

I heard the cries of Ri In. I couldn’t go down. I can’t let this happen to me. After a while, I heard no noise. I was curious so I went downstairs, to feel a strong breeze sweep past me. I wrapped myself with my hands. How could Ri In stand sitting here with the coldness? I saw Ri In on the sofa, shivering with her eyes closed. She must be asleep. I couldn’t help but carry her to the bed. Once settled, I tightly secured the blankets over Ri In. She was still shivering though. I went back and forth to fetch some blankets for her. When I put it on her, I realised that she was still shivering. This only left me one choice. I slowly climbed under the covers and hugged Ri In to me. She had stopped shivering nearly immediately. I was glad; I kept this pose all through the night, keeping her warm.

The next morning…

I woke up early today and saw Ri In next to me. She was lying on my chest, breathing softly. I slowly climbed out of bed and walked back to my room. I didn’t want Ri In to know that I did this. I don’t want her to fall for me. For a simple reason as, I love Hee Bon. And this will make it harder for us later in the future.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------R In’s POV

I woke up feeling warm all around. I was only sleeping on one side of the bed. The other side felt really warm. Well, it must only be me. I must have rolled to the other side during the night. Wait, why am I here? Aren’t I supposed to be downstairs? I looked out of the window. It was really sunny. You could say there was no patch of cloud on the sky. I felt all happy. As long as the weather is nice then I will feel happy. I tried to get up but I remembered that I was still disabled. I sat down back on bed. I reached over and grabbed a book on my drawer beside my bed. It was what I would do when I am alone on the bed.

“Ri In!” I heard someone call my name. I whipped my head to the door of my room and saw Yeonhee standing there.

“Yeonhee!” I called back. In her hands was like a sheaf of papers.

“What are you doing here?” I asked her.

“I thought you would be bored some I came over to bring you some information about business. I might do you some good now,” Yeonhee explained. It was a relief that Yeonhee was there. She gave me some stuff to instead of staying in bed and reading the same book, over and over again. So for the whole day, we studied about negatives, positives, advantages, disadvantages and strategies of business. I guess I improved a bit in business.

“Ri In, I have to go now. Will you be fine by yourself?” Yeonhee asked.

“I will be fine. It’s not like I am out on the streets or something. I am at home,” I said.

“Alright, I will be going,” Yeonhee said.

“Bye,” I waved.

“Bye!” she replied back. She got out of the room and closed the door. I sighed as she got out. I have to learn all these things myself now. I started flipping through those pages of tiny writing and stifled a yawn. I eventually tired myself out so much that I fell asleep, without eating for the whole day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junsu’s POV

I snuck into Ri In’s room and saw her sleeping. I realised that she hasn’t even eaten for the whole day. I shook my head at her silliness. I went downstairs and made her some kimbap. It took a while until I could finish. I carried the tray up to her room and placed it by her bedside. I wrote a sticky-note a stuck it to the tray. I slowly left the room, making sure she wouldn’t be awakened by me.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ri In’s POV

I smelt a delicious smell. The aroma made me oped my eyes. I sniffed and turned to my right, it had a tray of kimbap on it. My eyes opened up in disbelief and there was drool coming out of my mouth. I must have looked silly. I noticed a stick-note by the tray and picked it up. It read:

Ri In-shii,

I have made some kimbap for you. I didn’t want you to starve to death and die in this house to let me be a murderer. Eat it.

Junsu-shii.

I have taken note once again that he had added –shii behind our names. But I also felt very happy and giddy inside. I got to try Junsu’s food. I couldn’t wait to try. I scooped up a spoonful and stuffed it in my mouth. It was delicious! I kept on stuffing it in my mouth until I finished the whole bowl. I washed everything down with a cup of water that was in the tray and relaxed myself a bit. I picked up my book and started to read. After reading for about half an hour, I fell asleep once again.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junsu’s POV

I was watching Ri In behind the doors. I don’t know why but I felt really happy when she ate my food. I wasn’t as happy as ever when someone accepted my food gratefully. Last time I made food for Hee Bon, I only had a hint of happiness when she accepted the food. But with Ri In, I was more than happy. I didn’t know why. Am I really starting to like her? No! I have Hee Bon! I do not like her! Or do I…?
