“Please tell me, Dr. Lamon!”

The Significance of One

Junsu’s POV

“Please tell me, Dr. Lamon!” I begged. He hesitated for while until he started to speak.

“Well, as you see. If she does the operation on her head then she might not be able to bear a child but then if she does it on her leg, then she can bear a child. But doing it on her leg hurts much more,” the doctor explained. I dropped the phone that was in my hand.

“Hello? Hello?” Dr. Lamon called put through the receiver. I regained consciousness after starring into space and picked up the receiver again.

“Sorry Dr. Lamon, for disturbing you,” I apologised.

“That’s OK. Oh...sorry! I have a patient I have to attend to. I will be going now. Bye,” doctor Lamon said.

“Bye,”I said and hung up. So I guess that Ri In knows that she can be away from the Kim’s soon that is why she did the operation on her leg. Pfft, pathetic. I looked at the clock and noticed it was five o’clock; the time when everyone is out. I picked up my documents and left the company.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ri In’s POV

I was sitting upstairs in my room, reading, until I heard the doors open downstairs. It must be Junsu. I looked at the clock and it revealed the time of 5.30. I realised that I haven’t taken a shower yet so I slowly climbed onto my wheel chair to get my clothes and went into the bathroom.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junsu’s POV

I went home and walked to the lounge room. I didn’t see R In there. Just then I remembered that she was disabled. I went upstairs and went to her room to see if she was there but there was no one there. I started searching in the kitchen, hoping that she will be there. She wasn’t there. The house had no maids and servants in them since Omma didn’t want them here because she didn’t want them to disturb us if we…you know. I started searching the house frantically but I couldn’t find her. What happened if she tripped or something? I asked myself. I started to panic. I searched the house again but I couldn’t find her. I finally slumped onto the couch and sighed. She must be with Han Kyung or someone like that. I started fuming at that thought. I slammed my hand on the coffee table and walked off angrily to my room.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ri In’s POV

I went out of the showers; half expecting that Junsu will be there. I went to the stairs and took a peak but no one was there. He must be taking asleep, I thought. I slowly went back into my room in my wheel chair.

The next week…

I got the plaster removed from my leg today! Junsu didn’t know about this though. I was hoping he could drive me to the hospital. I know this hope is very foolish but it was something that was not entirely impossible. It was Saturday today so Junsu didn’t have work. But he went out early today. He left a note on the fridge saying he will be out for a short while. It was time for me to go but Junsu was still not home yet. I got my phone and dialled Junsu’s number. I rang for a couple of times before it got disconnected. I knew that Junsu was doing this on purpose because he disconnected the call. It did ring. I suddenly felt rejected. I decided that I will call a taxi. I was about to call them when I heard the doorbell. It must be Junsu! I quickly went to the door as fast as I could with my crutches. Once I got to the door, I yanked it open. To my surprise it was…

Han Geng? I was disappointed. Why was he here?

“Are you going to go to the hospital or just stand around here?” he asked me suddenly. I snapped back to reality.

“Han Geng Oppa? Why are you here?” I questioned.

“I knew you had to get that plaster off today so I thought that I might you,” he explained. At least I have someone that will get me to the hospital! So he helped me get my stuff. I was going to stay at the hospital overnight because the doctor said so. I got into Han Geng’s car with his assistance and we drove off, heading to the hospital.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junsu’s POV

I was at a café; with a person. To be more precise, a woman. Her name was Taeyeon. I am going in rounds, aren’t I? Well, I am having a kind-of affair. We flirt, cuddle and hold hands. Is that what you call an affair? I don’t know…

“Junsu! Can we go to the hospital? You promised you will meet my mother!” Taeyeon whined. Aww, she is so cute. I am actually betraying people in my life, a person I love and the person I am not supposed to betray.

“Alright, let’s go now,” I said. She immediately broke into a huge grin. We walked outside of the café and walked to my car. I opened the door for her. She smiled and walked into the car. I jogged to the other side and started the engine of the car. I drove, towards the direction of the hospital.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ri In’s POV

We were in the hospital, after the doctor took out the plaster off. Han Geng assisted me to get a drink. We were walking when I suddenly came to a stop, hearing a sweet, dolphin pitched voice. I looked up and saw Junsu with a girl, a very pretty woman. They were holding hands, laughing to each other. I felt pained all over my body. Maybe it’s jealousy? He looked up and saw me too. He suddenly stopped in his tracks. We both stood there, staring at each other. The woman looked up to what Junsu was looking at and saw me. Han Geng did the same and saw Junsu.

“Junsu, who is she?” asked the woman. Yes, yes, this is the right time to tell people that I am your wife!

“Taeyeon, I don’t know. I think that she is one of our maids,” Junsu lied. I felt crushed. He said that I was one of his maids! What an insult. Even though I was his maid, I was now his wife. Han Geng was about to step up when I stopped him with my hands.

“Come on. I want to get my drink,” I told Han Geng. He reluctantly nodded and guided me forwards. I went past Junsu, hurt filling my eyes. I stared at him with the most painful expression before I started to walk slowly forward.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junsu’s POV

I was shocked to see Ri In here; with Hang Kyung. Why is she here in the hospital? I didn’t know how, but the words came out of my mouth very rough. I didn’t mean to say that she was my maid but it just came out. I didn’t want Taeyeon to know. I guess I was a bit harsh. When she walked passed me, her eyes was full of pain. I felt pained at her expression. I couldn’t do much less though. I sighed.

“Come on Junsu! I am going to be late for the visiting hours!” Taeyeon complained. I smiled at her expression.

“Let’s go,” I said. I held her hand firmly and walked to the room.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ri In’s POV

We were sitting on a bench, drinking some tea in a bottle.

“Li Yin! How could you just walk away!? He said you are his maid! And who is that woman with him?” Han Geng asked me.

“I don’t know who she is. And can we not talk about this?” I said, resisting the urge to cry. Han Geng reads me like a book. He knows what I am feeling now, that is why he said this,

“If you want to cry, Li Yin, then cry. Remember, that I am always here to give you support. I always have my shoulder here so you can lean on,”

I started to cry. I hugged Han Geng tightly while the tears kept on coming out. He patted my back as way of comforting me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Junsu’s POV

After I took Taeyeon to the conference room, I went to look for Ri In. I knew my words were a bit harsh so I wanted to apologise to her. I went around the hospital to look for her. I suddenly remembered that she said to Hang Kyung that she wanted to go get a drink so I went around to the places that sell drinks to find her. I went for about five minutes until I turned a corner and saw two people hugging each other on a bench. That person looked awfully familiar. I went closer until I could see their faces. The woman pulled away from the man’s embrace and I saw it was Ri In! I felt my heart stop beating. Why was she hugging Hang Kyung? She even smiled at him. I felt crushed. So she was betraying me. I wasn’t the only one. I turned the corner and slid down the wall. I grabbed my heart, which was in pain.

After sitting for a while, I walked up to the hospital’s exit. I didn’t have a care in the world left. I didn’t care about Taeyeon anymore. To be honest, I even forgot about her. I went into my car and sped down the road towards our house. Images of Ri In and Hang Kyung hugging kept replaying in my head. Have I really started to like Ri In? No! That can’t be. The only that can bring a smile to my face was now Taeyeon.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Narrator’s POV

How can foolish Junsu not know his feelings? The smiles that Taeyeon makes him smile are actually only a bitter smile, a smile out of grieves, that he says to be a true smile. What’s a grieve smile, you ask? One that you really think that is a true smile but is actually a forced smile when you are sad and someone is trying to make you laugh but fails because of their lame jokes. You smile just to make them not disappointed but nothing has changed much in your feelings. Junsu is just denying his feelings, or is it true that he doesn’t like Ri In? It is true that everyone takes steps slowly to avoid having mistakes but is it going to be too late Junsu to realise his feelings?

“We've got this gift of love, but love is like a precious plant. You can't just accept it and leave it in the cupboard or just think it's going to get on by itself. You've got to keep watering it. You've got to really look after it and nurture it,” – John Lennon (1940-1980) British musician.

“Today I begin to understand what love must be, if it exists. When we are parted, we each feel the lack of the other half of ourselves. We are incomplete like a book in two volumes of which the first has been lost. That is what I imagine love to be: incompleteness in absence,” - Edmondde Goncourt. (1822-1896) French Writer.

Hi!

The chapter here is kind of worthless. LOL. I just wanted Ri In to be able to walk properly. I have been introducing many characters, haven't I? Taeyeon is someone  I wanted to ad but I am NOT her fan! Well, see you other time!

And congratulations again to unnie YmiNgo for getting I Wanna Be More Than Friends featured!
