Perspective: Grand Delusion

Park Sooyoung is a very competitive person, but this trait of hers has been overshadowed by the leader of her group who is more known as Red Velvet's Queen of Games. She has always made it a mission to beat Joohyun in as many games as possible in an attempt to snatch the title one day, but today she knows she's not going to win no matter what and she is fine with it.

"Are you girls ready? Who wants to start?" The host asks as some of them try to make themselves smaller in order to not get picked first.

They are in the middle of filming a variety show and the segment is a challenge where they all have to take turn serenading Seulgi and asks for her hand in marriage. This happens because it has become quite well known within the fandom that Seulgi is always turning down fans' proposals even though she could just sweet talk everybody and they know it didn't mean anything. For this game, not only the singing part will be taken into account, but the song they choose factors in as well. Sooyoung knows right away what she's going to sing and is about to volunteer to go first but Yerim stands up a few miliseconds before she could. The maknae starts singing while holding Seulgi's hands cheesily. It only takes a few seconds for Seulgi to eliminate her. Even so, Yerim won't stop singing, purposefully taunting her and making the rest of them laugh.

Joohyun is asked to go next by the host but she says that she isn't ready yet so Sooyoung steps up for her. Benefitting from her experience as an actress, she starts it with a dramatic monologue. She can see them cringing but she doesn't care. She starts approaching Seulgi, who has her fingers in her ears and her face scrunches up as if in pain. 'Rude.' She sings to her, touching and hugging her. She feels like she's doing well but after all the effort Seulgi declares that she fails. She then turns it into another dramatic moment with her hysterical acting after getting rejected.

She sits back down and watches Seungwan using the chance to showcase her amazing vocal ability, singing some English song she has never heard of. The greasy woman goes as far as kneeling and pulling a fake ring out of her pocket and puts in on Seulgi's finger. "Where the hell did she get the ring from?'

Seulgi seems to be the most pleased with Seungwan out of the three of them and puts her into consideration, saying that she will decide the winner when everyone is done with their turn. Only Joohyun is left now and Sooyoung isn't sure if Seulgi will make her win because of favoritism or will make her lose as to not look too obvious. Either way, it's going to be interesting.

All attention is now back to the leader, who is sitting there with a frown on her face, telling them that she really can't think of a song. Everyone knows Joohyun is really indecisive and always has a hard time making decision when put on the spot, but they also know the difference between her struggling to come up with something and her plainly refusing to participate in the game. Sooyoung looks at Seulgi and smirks, trying to tell her telephatically, 'Look at her panicking. She's totally in love with you.'

They are running out of time so the host fails her and declares Seungwan the winner of the game. First of all, how dare he? Second of all, this is such a disappointment. Sooyoung would pay a lot of money to see Joohyun trying to win Seulgi's heart. Not that she needed to, Seulgi's heart is already hers to begin with.

The segment ends with Seungwan being so proud of herself as she seldom wins anything when it comes to games. The host then proceeds to ask some questions to Yerim about her life as a young trainee, who was only a fifth grader when she joined SM. The maknae quickly credits her unnies for taking care of her really well during those times. One of those scripted answers she has memorized even before she officially debuted. Not that it's a lie or an exaggeration, but it's still scripted nonetheless. Yerim is a tsundere too and she would never sincerely say nice things about her friends in front of them.

"Irene-ssi, is it true that when you cooked her kimchi fried rice, you would put the fried egg below the rice?" The host asks Joohyun.

"Oh, I think I split the rice and hid the fried egg in the middle."

She looks at Joohyun interestedly as she has never heard of this particular story before and from the look of it neither has Seulgi nor Seungwan. They have always adored Joohyun for being such a loving and doting older sister slash substitute mother for Yerim and this anecdote just further magnifying their adoration for the older woman.

"Why did you hide it?" The hosts asks, curious.

"Just to make eating it more fun?" She answers with her trademark crispy laugh.

They all laugh at the ridiculous yet sweet reason but when Sooyoung steals a glance at Seulgi, the woman has a dazed expression on her face. She doesn't have an X-ray vision but she's pretty sure Seulgi's heart is melting as she stares at Joohyun intently, as if in total disbelief that such human exists.

Sooyoung can't blame her honestly. Yes, as the oldest person in the dorm, Joohyun was responsible for their safety and well-being, but she was in no way responsible for doing things for Yerim's amusement. She can't help but think that Joohyun would make such a great mother one day. And judging by Seulgi's totally-in-love expression, she must be thinking the same thing or probably something even crazier, like how beautiful life could be if her future children has a mother like Joohyun.

After the filming is done and they have taken a commemorative photo with the host, Seulgi is the first one to go back to their dressing room while Seungwan is still chatting animatedly with the host. Poor Yerim looks tired but is stuck between the two of them, faking an interest. Sooyoung is about to follow Seulgi, wanting to corner her and a little when she feels a passing breeze from her left side. She turns to see Joohyun power walking aggresively, going after Seulgi. She tails them discreetly and curiously.

As soon as Joohyun reaches the dressing room, she hisses. "What the hell is wrong with you?"

Sooyoung immediately stops on her track, beyond shocked her to hear Joohyun' harsh tone, especially when it's Seulgi she's talking to.

"Huh?" Seulgi sounds dumbfounded.

She creeps closer in order to be able to have a visual on them. She almost had a heart attack because the moment she peeks in, Joohyun has just turned her head from looking at the door back to Seulgi. It seemed like she made a quick check before continuing speaking to Seulgi. If only Sooyoung was a few miliseconds too early, Joohyun would have seen her.

"Stop looking at me like that, you know you were being filmed, right?" Joohyun scolds her in a lower volume. "You can't let people catch the way you're looking at me, Seul."

"I.." Seulgi pauses, looking confused yet knowing better than to question an angry Joohyun. "I'm sorry, I didn't realize. I'll be careful next time."

"Be more careful, Kang Seulgi!"

Seulgi's eyebrows furrow at the hostility. "Can you calm down, please? I've been looking at you like that for a long, long time. You don't have to worry, people would just think of it as a fan service."

"No, don't you use that excuse. Fan service is giving an unecessary hug or a stupid compliment or a blatant fan service kiss on the cheek. You were looking at me like.. like.." Joohyun doesn't know how to finish the sentence.

'Like she's in love with you.' Sooyoung finishes for her in her mind. She saw that with her own eyes and it's undeniable. Maybe not to clueless eyes, but it's kind of obvious to her who knows the truth.

Seulgi looks like she's about to apologize again but the next thing coming out of stuns Sooyoung. "Unnie, can I kiss you?"

'Wait, what?'  If Sooyoung is reading a book, she would have flipped back many pages because she's sure she's missing a few chapters. 'Have they been secretly dating?' She has heard from Seungwan that the two of them went to the Han River one time after practice but she didn't think much of it because Joohyun and Seulgi going for a night walk used to be a normal occurence. And just a few days ago she witnessed with her own eyes Seulgi coming out of Joohyun's bedroom in the morning, yet she didn't think much of it either because Joohyun used to sleep with Seulgi during thunderstorms or when they watched movies until late night. 'Holy , they're secretly dating!'

"For God's sake, Seul."

That's the last thing Sooyoung hears coming from Joohyun before she takes quiet steps back and leaves to give them their privacy. She doesn't feel right spying on them anymore.

-

Seungwan is confused. One minute everything is fine, the next Seulgi is sobbing on the pavement at the parking lot outside the convenience store near their company. She has asked to make a stop on their way home. Seulgi, Seungwan and Sooyoung are sharing a car while Joohyun and Yerim in another.

Seungwan looks at her friend sadly. Seulgi has calmed down a little but she has never seen her like this before. In fact, Seulgi has changed so much these past few months it honestly scares her. She seemed happy just right before their new album came out, especially those moments after she and Joohyun went to the Han River. Seungwan thought that they have really patched things up, even suspecting that Joohyun was opening up to the possibility of trying something with Seulgi. She has doubts, knowing the risks and how strict Joohyun could be regarding this sort of things, but the risks should be worth it because this is Kang Seulgi they're talking about. The kindest, sweetest, gentlest, most lovable human being on earth.

However, Joohyun started involving herself with that designer and it was up and down yet again from then on. A part of her wants to be mad at Joohyun for making Seulgi's life miserable. Another part says that Seulgi kind of brings this situation onto herself. She understands them both. Love is not something Seulgi can control and Joohyun is really trying her best under the difficult circumstances. Love is supposed to be a beautiful thing but why it seems so painful for her friends?

Under Sooyoung's relentless coercion, Seulgi tells them what has been going on, how Joohyun only sees her as a sister and nothing else. Sooyoung seems very surprised but Seungwan not so much. It makes sense, but at the same time she doesn't know how much she can trust Joohyun's words. Their leader is very good at keeping things from them after all. Also, she doesn't know which is sadder, the fact that Joohyun apparently doesn't see Seulgi that way, or the fact that she maybe does but is lying because she thinks it'd be the better way to stop Seulgi from loving her and going after her.

She then watches Sooyoung blabberi

I binge read this in one entire day, 24 hours, because i was just so hooked on your story! I was scared to read this when I saw the bittersweet ending tag. I'm a big fan of happy endings (i think i adopted that from my unhealthy obsession with romance movies), and I was really surprised when I finished without complaining once. The way you portrayed the characters in the story was PHENOMENAL. The emotions, the expressions, their feelings, it was truly a work of art! Down to the plot, it was just so good and it's nothing like I've read before. There were moments where I wanted to cry, moments where I wanted to laugh, and that's really fun when I feel like I experienced the emotions with the characters. Thank you for this amazing story, I hope to read more of your works. Some stories don't always need the ending you wanted in order for it to be your favorite. At least thats how I felt with this. Stay happy and healthy <33

Chapter 16: I finally had the courage to read after i found out that there's an alternative ending. I was prepared to get my heart crashed but unexpectedly loved it and finished it in a day. Now i'm wondering why i didn't read this sooner lol. The comments section scared me tbh. The ending is very realistic. I think i've said this before but the greatest charm of silhouetteink's stories are how human, relatable, and not too fictional the characters are. That's why i'm satisfied with the ending. I'm still 100% anticipating the alternative ending tho. They seem to be very in love with their girlfriends i'm curious how will it turn out but I'm sure it's going to be as satisfying as this original one.
