“Do I have to?”
“If you love me, then yes, you do.”
Sehun had a date, one that you assumed he didn’t particularly want to go on from his behaviour over the past few days. So, rather than cancel, he asked for a double date instead; him and Eunji — the girl he met at his new job — and you and one of Eunji’s friends.
Baekhyun, you recalled. But, you didn’t know how he looked, since Sehun refused to send you a picture of him. Regardless of what he looked like, though, you still weren’t looking forward to it. You just weren’t interested in dating right now, even if it was only so Sehun didn’t have to reject anyone directly.
“If you didn’t want to go, why did you tell her yes?”
“Why would you think I don’t want to go? I really like her.”
You raised an eyebrow. “Then why the hell do you keep talking about backing out, and… Wait…” Suddenly, you connected the dots, and you couldn’t hold back your laugher. “Sehun, are you…” you barely managed to get out through your laughter.
“God, shut up,” he said with a roll of his eyes. “It’s not that funny.”
“Are you telling me that the over-confident Sehun is too nervous to go on a date by himself? Am I in an alternate universe?”
He groaned and shook his head. “Yes, I admit it. I’m too nervous to go on a date by myself. But, you might end up liking Baekhyun, so when you get married to him, I expect you to grovel at my feet.”
You snorted. You were not thinking about getting married to some guy you hadn’t even met yet. “I highly doubt that. Besides; if things did work out, I’d thank Eunji since he’s her friend.”
“I handpicked him,” he informed you. “He was the most attractive out of all her friends, so yeah, you should thank both of us then.”
You rolled your eyes. “You just wanted him off the market just in case Eunji had a thing for him.”
“Woah, hey, hold on! I never said he was more attractive than me,” he said, sounding hurt over the mere implication. “But, of course, you wouldn’t know, because—”
“—Because you won’t send me a picture of him, you .”
“What’s the point? You’ll see him tomorrow.”
“I hate you,” you mumbled.
The only reason you agreed to the date — with Sehun not showing you what Baekhyun looked like, and the fact that you didn’t even want to go in the first place — was because you were only going for milkshakes. If it had been at a fancy restaurant where the atmosphere was guaranteed to be a bit awkward, you wouldn’t have even considered it.
“Before she asks, do not show her a picture of Baekhyun,” Sehun told Eunji before she could even greet you.
“I will never understand what you see in him,” you joked, rising from your seat to hug her. She laughed as she wrapped her arms around you, swaying a bit.
“If you really want a picture of him, I’ll show you; don’t worry,” she assured you, already picking up her phone, while Sehun feigned offence with his mouth slightly ajar.
“Are you kidding me? I’ve never felt more betrayed in my life,” he spoke with a pout as he sat next to you, Eunji sitting directly in front of him.
“I don’t even understand why you don’t want her to know how he looks. Wouldn’t that make this whole thing easier on her?” she questioned. She’d soon learn that Sehun was just a bumbling fool that made it his mission to mess with you in any way he could.
“Honestly, I can’t even remember the reason,” he said with a shrug. “But—”
You looked up at the sound of the voice. It was charming, smooth, friendly — and it matched his face perfectly.
“Oh, hi Baek! You made it!”
It wasn’t until Eunji said his name that it registered to you that he was supposed to be your date. But, you just couldn’t believe it; there was no way that he’d be the one sitting across from you.
“Is that Baekhyun?” you whispered into Sehun’s ear as Baekhyun walked towards you.
“Obviously,” he replied.
“He’s much better looking than you. I can see why— Ow!” You rubbed the area that Sehun had pinched you, trying your best to not smack him in the head while Baekhyun was standing there.
“Watch your mouth, or I swear I’ll tell him about the time you tripped in front of everyone at an upscale restaurant,” he threatened.
“I’ll make sure you die before you even have a chance to utter a word about that,” you whispered harshly, and before he could respond, Baekhyun was standing right in front of you, patting Eunji on her shoulder before he sat down with his eyes locked on you the entire time.
“Wow, it’s nice to finally meet you. Sehun told me so much about you,” he said with an outstretched hand, and you immediately shook it, taking note of how beautiful his hand were, and how delicate they felt.
Then, he brought your hand up to his lips, soft and plush against your skin, butterflies fluttering in your stomach.
He was definitely a flirt.
“It’s nice to meet you, too,” you said, giving him a sweet smile. You’d thought about mentioning the fact that Sehun told you nothing about him, but you decided against it.
“Oh no, look. The sparks are already flying,” Sehun teased, and you responded but slapping his thigh, cheeks heating up as Baekhyun laughed.
But, he wasn’t exactly wrong. By the end of the date, you had grown comfortable with him, something that you’d never experienced before. He was just so welcoming and assuring; it was like you’d known him for a long time.
Sehun and Eunji were walking hand in hand in front of you, while you and Baekhyun lagged behind. You weren’t holding hands, but your hands were brushing against each other as you walked, sending shivers down your spine each time.
“I really like you, you know,” he said, finally lacing his fingers between yours, and you swore your knees nearly buckled.
Another thing you liked about him; he was surprisingly forward, but you found it endearing. It was nice to not have to guess what he thought about you. “I like you, too,” you said, looking down at your feet when you realised what you had just said, but he gave your hand a slight squeeze and smiled.
“I only came here because Eunji asked me to, but I’m really glad I met you,” he said, then his shoulders fell with a sigh. “I just… I probably should’ve mentioned this earlier, but I’m not really looking for a relationship right now.”
Maybe he should have, but you didn’t mind. Despite how much you were beginning to like Baekhyun, you still weren’t looking for a relationship either. It just wasn’t the time for that. “It’s okay. I’m not looking for a relationship either, but we can always be friends, right?”
Relationship or not, you did want him to stick around, even if only for a short while longer. And he seemed to think the same, nodding with a small smile on his face as he looked at you. “I’d love that.”
Then, for a brief moment, silence fell between you, and your walking slowed to a halt, standing up with his hand in yours, before he pulled you in so that his arm was draped over your shoulder, and you immediately slid yours around his waist, letting your head rest on his chest.
“So… when are you free again?” he asked, and you could hardly answer with how your heart raced in your chest. “Maybe we can hang out again. You know, without Eunji and Sehun.”
“Saturday,” you managed to say.
He hummed softly, then held you a bit tighter. “Alright. It’s a date.”
