Witches and vampires don't mix. This has been drilled into the head of Kaneoa Kam'ehele since she was little. 

As the step-daughter of Maleha Kam'ehele, the leader of the Hanemaha Coven of witches who live on the island of Mahaou, Kaneoa is expected to behave exactly as a young witch should. Kaneoa does her best to fit in, but the Korean witch blood given her by her father causes most of the other Hawaiian witches to look down on her and consider her lesser. 

Enter the Favorini Clan, a well-known clan of vampires who have relocated from Italy to Mahaou in an attempt to track down a mysterious hunter hell-bent on destroying the Clan. They keep their distance from the witches, staying in their own area of the island as much as they can.

One day, while fetching some herbs for one of the healers, Kaneoa runs into Yuta Nakamoto, fourth oldest of the Favorini vampires. She and Yuta hit it off immediately, and agree to continue meeting in secret.

Not long after meeting Yuta, the Coven is attacked by unknown assailants and Maleha is quick to throw blame upon the vampires. Kaneoa, however, is suspicious of her mother's motives and starts digging a little deeper into things. After speaking with Yuta and learning his side of things, she decides to team up with the vampire and his friends. 

Who attacked the Coven? Why is Maleha acting so strangely? And why can't Kaneoa's heart be still whenever she's around Yuta?
