Joohyun and Seungwan had always been having each other’s back ever since the start of their friendship. Doesn’t matter if it’s a small thing, a big thing, silly thing, it has always been known that they got each other’s back no matter what the situation might be. Whether one of them was wrong or right, they were bound to hold hands and get through tough times together.  And by tough times it means when one of them were being scolded by their respective parents.

Other than being scolded, Seungwan often protected Joohyun from scary looking creatures, and by that, I mean cute animals that are way smaller than their kiddie sizes. Little Joohyun would shriek and little Seungwan with her little legs would come running and ready to keep Joohyun atleast 20 feet away from the said animal. Although there was that one time little Joohyun felt betrayed when Seungwan was supposed to protect her from a cat but Seungwan ended up befriending the cat because it was so tiny like she is and proceeded to call it Chanel—because she saw that name on her Mama’s bag—she would name it Louis Vuitton but it was too long even for Seungwan to pronounce.

But little Seungwan gave little Joohyun a hug so everything was otay.

Joohyun however had always supported Seungwan and would always stand by her side whenever Seungwan decided to stand up for herself. Just like that one day when Seungwan stood up against Bogum for stealing Seulgi’s food, Joohyun stood by her side and made sure Bogum would never mess with Seungwan or Seulgi ever again. Joohyun also stood by Seungwan’s side whenever Seungwan again decided to do questionable stuff. To Joohyun, if Seungwan were to get hurt, she might as well get hurt with her so she’ll fell the pain Seungwan felt.

Little Joohyun would always act like she was not in pain to assure Seungwan that everything is going to be otay.

It has always been like that since the start of their friendship.

So it started with an ice cream

Little Seungwan stood in the kitchen with her head hung low, Mama Shon standing before her with both hands on her waist staring down on her daughter. Joohyun was nowhere to be seen but she’ll come by once she senses her friend’s distress

“Seungwan” Mama Shon started

“…”

“Did you eat the ice cream in the fridge?”

Seungwan shook her head

“Chuwan did not eat it”

“…”

“Honey, tell me truth. You know Mama won’t get angry if you eat it, but you must ask for permission. You can’t eat ice cream all the time especially before nap time”

“Chuwan did not eat it!” Seungwan said again

But there was chocolate stain near , clearly looked like it’s been smudged

“Seungwan, if you lie, the person up there will get sad”

Mama Shon told her, pointing up towards the sky. Seungwan finally looked up, shock plastered on her face because she knows well who her mother was referring to. She wasn’t even talking about Seungwan’s father, not even Joohyun because Joohyun is not upstairs. Mama Shon had told her about how the person up there is all mighty and powerful. And Seungwan wants no trouble with the said person

“G-god sunbaenim…?” Seungwan said

“Yes, God sunbaenim will get sad”

Mama Shon still doesn’t understand how or when Seungwan referred to God as God Sunbaenim. But it’s what keeps her going so she let it be. Even if she had told Seungwan that it was okay to just say God, but Seungwan still insisted to say sunbaenim after it. And so they let her be

“If you lie, God sunbaenim will cry” Mama Shon told her again

“B-but why…?”

“Because He knows how Seungwan had been a very good girl. And if He finds out that my baby is lying, He will be sad”

“But last year Santa Clause said Chuwan is a good girl and Chuwan is not naughty!”

“Yes, but that was last year honey. And it’s not Christmas yet”

Mama Shon tried so hard to not smile due to her daughter’s innocence. Sometimes she wonders whether Seungwan values Santa Clause more than the Almighty

“But… Chuwan can’t hear anything. Chuwan can’t hear God sunbaenim cry” Seungwan tried again

“Yeah, you can’t. But he’s watching you”

“God sunbaenim is watching Chuwan?”

“Mhm, he’s—”

“CHUWAN!!!!!!!!”

Mama Shon didn’t get to finish her sentence when little Joohyun’s voice echoes through the walls of their big house. It may look like a mansion, but once Joohyun or Seungwan screams, even the huge mansion can’t cover much of it.

When Seungwan turned around, she saw Joohyun standing by the entrance of their kitchen and it’s as if Joohyun could tell that something was wrong with her friend. With the way that Seungwan clasped her hands together and she didn’t even smile. She would pounce, but the person before Seungwan was not a nobody. It’s Mama Shon and Joohyun won’t admit it out loud but she wants to get on the woman’s good side in order to be able to spend time with ‘Chuwan’ everyday.

“Chuwan? Are you otay?” Joohyun asks

Seungwan just bit her lower lip and nodded slowly, trying to tell her friend that she was in the middle of something. Then Mama Shon spoke

“Joohyun, honey, Seungwan will be with you in a while, okay? Aunty just wants to have a talk with her”

Joohyun just looks at Seunwgan one last time, making sure she’s okay only for Seungwan to give her a small nod in return

“Otay… Joonie is sowwy for disturbing”

“It’s alright honey” Mama Shon smiled

And Joohyun walked away, frowning. Thinking of ways to make Seungwan feel better once she’s done talking to her mother. Joohyun swears that if it was any other people, she would hug Seungwan and tell the other person to stay away. But it’s different for the time being.

She’ll think of something else

Back to the Shons, Seungwan was still staring at the ground. Felt guilty for lying to her mother because she really did take a few spoonsful of ice cream 20 minutes ago. She quickly puts in back when she heard Mama Shon got out of the shower. Seungwan knows better than to lie to her mother but she couldn’t help it. The chocolate ice cream looked tempting and it was placed somewhere where it was easier for her to grab

“Now, where were we—”

And somehow it started raining out of the blue

And Seungwan is crying

And Joohyun is worried

And Mama Shon doesn’t know whether to laugh or cry

You see, Seungwan finally admitted about eating ice cream and Mama Shon forgave her. Seungwan however was a little worried that God sunbaenim might still be sad because it didn’t deny the fact that she did lie before. So when it started raining, Seungwan thought those were God sunbaenim’s tears and she started crying too because she thought that God sunbaenim was really disappointed in her up to the point that it rained.

He must be crying hard, oh no…

Joohyun on the other hand doesn’t know whether to be angr
