Gryffindor’s Jeon Jungkook and Ravenclaw’s Kim Jihyun were both 6th year prefects in Hogwarts’ and were even in the same friend group - yet the two could never get along.

It could be because the Gryffindor’s straightforwardness and reckless personality rubbed off the wrong way on the Ravenclaw’s rationality, or maybe it was the one time in their 1st year that Jungkook had answered a question that Jihyun couldn’t during one of their Defence against the Dark Arts class and the girl had taken it to heart, since Ravenclaws were known for their wit.

But it was likely because they were both captains of their respective quidditch teams, and the well-known rivalry among the two teams was the strongest out of the four houses.

Gryffindor and Ravenclaw had won the house cup every alternate year for the past 10 years with just a slight difference in the number of points. It was a close fight every single year, and the quidditch captains had the most responsibility in ensuring their houses win for the year.

6th year was no different for them.

“Are you ready to lose this year, Kim?” Jungkook said as he leaned against the cabin doors that Jihyun was in while she was loading her luggage.

Jihyun didn’t have to turn around to know who had spoken as she merely rolled her eyes and huffed, “Shut up, Jeon. We know who’s going to lose this year, and it’s not going to be Ravenclaw.”

Her luggage finally clicked into position and she straightened her outfit before settling down on the sofa seats. Jungkook merely scoffed as he took out a finger and shook it, “Not a chance. You might have forgotten how we won the previous house cup.” Jungkook said with a smug.

The boy had never let her forget about it.

It was a close match between Gryffindor and Ravenclaw, with only ten points difference between the two houses. Gryffindor’s seeker, Jeon Jungkook, and Ravenclaw’s seeker, Min Yoongi, had both spotted the golden snitch. They were both incredibly fast, but Jungkook’s Thunderbolt VII clearly had a strong advantage over Yoongi’s Firebolt as he leaned forward even more and grabbed the golden snitch while he was inches away.

It cost Ravenclaw’s chance of getting the house cup, and Jungkook couldn’t stop talking about it all summer.

Even though Jihyun hated the boy’s guts, it didn’t help that he was close friends with both of her brothers - Kim Namjoon and Kim Seokjin. They had formed a group with four other boys - Jung Hoseok, Kim Taehyung, Park Jimin, and Min Yoongi. She loved them dearly and they were like family, apart from Jungkook, whom she couldn’t go five minutes in the same room without picking a fight - something that the group had grown accustomed to over the years.

Despite everything, Jihyun still felt thankful for her friends.

Seokjin and Namjoon had gotten to know Hoseok and Yoongi - the two ravenclaws during one of their first-year magical creature classes. They were all table mates and had hit it off quickly. When Jihyun had entered Hogwarts, the group welcomed her in immediately, making her feel completely at ease in a new environment.

When Jihyun hit it off immediately with Taehyung in Charms class, he had introduced Jimin to her, the red-haired boy with rounded spectacles, who similarly had an extroverted nature to Taehyung. It seemed coincidental that Taehyung had already known Yoongi since they came from the same hometown, and they blended in the group seamlessly.

Then it was Jungkook, whom Jin had gotten to know during quidditch where the young boy was one of the best seekers in his year. Albeit shy at first, he slowly warmed up to Jin and eventually joined the group as well.

“You two need to stop taking quidditch so seriously.” Namjoon shook his head before settling opposite Jihyun with a book.

“Quidditch is serious!” Jungkook retorted as Yoongi chimed in this time, placing his luggage on top before settling beside Jihyun, “It’s true.”

“It’s good to have friendly rivalry, but you two take things too far sometimes.” Jin said with a light-hearted smile as he ruffled Jungkook’s hair.

Jin always had a soft spot for his Gryffindor junior, and Jihyun sometimes suspected that her brother favoured the boy more than her. She narrowed her eyes at him, but he merely laughed as he knew what she was thinking.

“No, I am not showing favoritism, Ji. I got your favourite chocolate frogs for you.” Jin said as he took out a Chocolate frog that he had sneakily hidden behind his pocket, and the tense atmosphere in the cabin had dissipated immediately.

“You are the best!” She squealed excitedly as she took the snack from him and peeled off the packaging, revealing her collectible card. “Ugh, I got Godric Gryffindor again. I just need one Albus Dumbledore to complete my collection, why is it so hard!” She sighed, placing the card into her already high stack of Godric Gryffindor cards.

“I guess you just have an affinity with us Gryffindors.” Jin wriggled his eyebrows as he placed a hand on Jungkook’s shoulder, who merely looked at her with a teasing smile. “What are you? 10? You’re being so childish for collecting chocolate cards still. ” Jungkook snickered, and the cabin fell silent instantly.

Jungkook’s teasing expression faded away when he saw the blank look on Jihyun’s face, and the girl merely pursed her lips before placing the collectible card into her binder, turning away from them. Namjoon looked up from his book instantly, and Jin looked at the girl worriedly before turning to Jungkook with a frown. Yoongi had already tuned them out as he fell asleep on the train’s window.

Shaking his head, he whispered to the boy, “Go, Jungkook. We’ll see you later.” He said as he shut the door, leaving the boy dumbfounded as he walked away, not before sneaking a last glance at the girl who continued staring out the train’s window.

Jungkook settled in the cabin with Jimin, Taehyung and Hoseok. They looked at the boy who seemed immersed in his thoughts, and they couldn’t help but ask.

“You look troubled.” Jimin pointed out and Jungkook merely shrugged, “Just thinking.”

“About what? Summer just ended, school hasn’t started, what’s there to think?” The three looked perplexed as they waited for Jungkook to speak.

“Nothing worth mentioning.” He merely said, and the three shrugged, continuing their conversation on their new school timetable.

--

It felt like home.

After the first year’s sorting ceremony in the Great Hall, Hogwart’s start-of-term feast was everyone’s favourite. Jungkook loo
