exes au                                       {one last time}   “Sorry, Jen but I have tutoring that weekend.”    Jennie sighs away to yet another rejection and desperately closes her eyes for a little breather, she’s been asking around everyone she knows but it’s gone terribly wrong, legit no use which mentally disturbs her peace and sanity.    “I would’ve agreed cause of the free food but I need to get done with my thesis and submit it early.” Her longtime bestfriend Jisoo says, casually turning the pages of the book she recently borrowed from the university’s library. Almost everyone knows Jisoo for being a very smart beautiful bookworm girl and she definitely lives up to the title but for Jennie, she’s just someone who’s really loud and funny.    Another friend beside Jisoo, the epitome of beauty around the uni, head of the drama club, and also the most favored by the students, the one and only Bae Irene gives Jennie an apologetic smile, “I want to help you, Jen, I really do but I can’t back out from tutoring because Mr. Yun personally assigned me the student and you know that this will definitely help me in my certificate.”    “I’ve literally lost the counts of people who rejected me. Can you guys like set me up with someone because this is really critical.”    Jisoo looks up from her book, giving her friend a very concerning look, “Why do you need a date for your cousin’s wedding? Is it a compulsory rule that he set up?”    There’s a choice of not attending the wedding which Jennie thoroughly thought the other night but she can’t just ditch it since she promised long ago and she doesn’t want any feud with any member of her own family.    “There’s no such rule.” Jennie dramatically puts her head down in the table and ignores the curious gazes from other students.   “So, what is the real catch here?” Irene asks and Jisoo finally closes her book and neatly puts it inside her very old fashioned looking bag.    “The relatives.”    “I think we need more than that to process the whole situation, smartass.” Jisoo shakes her head disapprovingly.    “My not so nosy relatives will be there! They’ve been trying to set me up with some really awful men and I need a date to shut them up for once and all.”    Irene chuckles this time, leaning down and resting her chin on the back of her hand whilst Jisoo just has a very smug expression which is clearly done to annoy Jennie Kim a little bit as usual.    “Define awful.”   “They sent a very witless man to my apartment last week, who was shorter than me and had longer hair compared to me. A very imprudent man as he kept on telling me why I should hand kuma to the animal control department as per his stupid belief  ‘dogs and cats are monsters’.”    “That’s horrible!” Jisoo instantly replies because that nonsensical belief really got through her nerves, urging to send a very delightful mind to mind telepathy to her dog back home.   “I had to kick him out after I realize my hands grabbing the toaster to hit him with.” Jennie exhales.   “And before that, they set me up in a date with a die-hard Logan Paul fan. Gosh, his horrible tattoo on the neck still grosses me out.”   Irene laughs, finding it very amusing and interesting, “Why are we hearing about this horrible yet so comedically improvised dates of yours just now?”   “I didn’t want to embarrass myself with this details of rawness, swore to take this to my grave but my desperateness needs consolation and help.”    The warning bell rings and almost all of the students start to move to their assigned classes or libraries, Jennie quickly opens up her device to check her schedule and heaves a very relieved smile knowing she still has twenty minutes more for her last class which is Stat, a class she enjoys very much.   “Ask Sana for help, you did sleep with her last week.” Jisoo chimes in an idea which only makes Jennie groan in disapproval.   “It was a month ago and no, Sana is really delusional and she takes things seriously so I had to stop sleeping with her because she started to plan our wedding in her mind. And if I ask her, she will definitely think of it as me asking her out which is not what I’m in for”    Irene soon leaves the table to take a part in her drama club meeting after hugging both of her friends and gives a good luck to Jennie in the search of a suitable date to get her by the painful weekend.   “And here I thought that you kind of liked her.”   “I don’t like anyone.” Jennie rolls her eyes.   Jisoo snorts, “Sure, the unattainable ice queen of the business department.”    “Whoever came up with that title to describe me is really ed up in the head.”    This particular name is buried in each and every students mind because it’s very much true, they know Jennie but they can never approach her so casually, maybe it’s because of the aura that she radiates which makes her super intimidating or that certain face she gives everyone so they could stop interacting with her or maybe it’s both of it.    But what they don’t know is how timid Jennie is, how soft she gets often, and Jennie never hopes to let that get out in the world because she values her personal space and she distinctly only chooses some few people to see the very vulnerable side of her.   “What are you two asses up to?” Jennie blinks and sees her very close friend, Nayeon, looking back at them with a huge grin.    “Seeing that stupid grin, I would like to ask you the exact question.” Jennie answers back. Nayeon smiles even widely and sits at the chair where Irene had sat earlier, she dreamingly sighs and Jennie knows what this is going to be about...   “Jihyo finally accepted the dinner with me.”   “Not surprised since you’ve been stalking her for almost two months now, Nay.” Jisoo factly strikes which snatches that stupid grin of her stupid friend.   “You don’t have to rub it in my face,” Nayeon glares at Jisoo and then looks at Jennie, finding her silence a little bit out of the room, “and what’s up with you and that horrible long face?”   “She needs a date to her cousin’s wedding to show her very inquisitive relatives so they stop pinning her with bland strangers.” Jisoo puts away directly.   “Did you ask Sana? I thought Sana was willing to give you everything.” It’s no secret in the uni that Sana and Jennie fooled around, even starting a baseless rumor that both of them had something going on way before....but that’s the last concern she has in her mind because rumors don’t define her, they never did.   “Forget about her. What about you? Can you be my date this weekend?”    “Never in my entire life I imagined the Elsa of business department asking me out. Surreal moment which needs to be captured, where’s Lisa when you need her videography skill?” Nayeon significantly makes heart eyes to throw Jennie off.   “Are you done?” Jennie sternly questions which gains yet another puff of laugh from Jisoo’s side.   “Appreciate your effort in asking me out but I can’t be your y date, I have plans with my real date.”   “Literally everyone of you are useless.” Jennie dishearteningly says.   “But I know someone who actually fits as your date.” Nayeon adds up with a sly smile, which definitely churns up Jennie’s inside in different way but she still wants to hear what Nayeon is suggesting so she could get this whole case to done at ease.   “But never mind, you wouldn’t take it.” Nayeon changes the topic.   Jisoo, who once again has the book in front of her, guesses, “Is it Tzuyu?”    “No way, she cries when she’s near Jennie, says it’s too scary to even breathe.”    The timer goes off and Jennie is quick to shut it off, throwing Nayeon the most infamous ‘Jen’s big icy glare’ but yet the latter chooses to ignore it and look somewhere else.   “Give me the name, Im,” Jennie impatiently states because Nayeon is taking a hella lot of time spitting out the damn name. “I’ve got five minutes to my Stat class and if you don’t bark in the next two minutes, I will officially volunteer myself to stitch your mouth for the rest of your life.”    “Damn the threats.” Nayeon laughs out loud but Jisoo is quick to stop her, “She’s definitely serious, Nay.”    Indeed, Jennie Kim is.   “Gosh, you’re too much, Kim.”    “I just need the name.” Jennie shrugs.   “Okay fine, take it, it’s Park Chaeyoung, yes that Park Chaeyoung from the music department. She fits perfectly as your supposed date.”    Park Chaeyoung, the literal replica of a goddess, the kindest one to ever be born, the darling of the music department, and also a very sweet angel in a human disguise.   Oh, and also Jennie Kim’s only ex.    Have you heard about the girl who got frozen? Jennie Kim is that particular girl because after months of avoiding the said name and also the courtesy of her close friends not mentioning the name, she felt she’d moved on but right now, her heart knows nothing but to feel the same giddiness inside her whenever Park Chaeyoung is mentioned and she very much realizes that those honey brown eyes still binds her, much to her so called moving on agenda.     Three days till the wedding and Jennie sits in the cafe, with her laptop open, hopeless and betrayed by her own friends; well, she’s just being dramatic but goddammit! she needs someone and she’s even willing to pay. Her mind goes back to what Kai had suggested yesterday evening.   “Jennie Kim asking me to be a fake date? Unbelievable.” Kai grins.   “Shut up and help me.” Jennie says, not even batting an eye at Kai’s direction, way too preoccupied by her assignments which is due next month but she likes to complete it early and have a good steady peaceful break till the submission.   “Geez, I wouldn’t miss out getting paired up with you but I’ve already planned a weekend getaway with my boys.”   “Ditch them.” Jennie puts her pen down and hurls a very questioning look at Kai, who in return gives a peace sign.   “Bros before hoes.”   Jennie throws the big massive calculus book which hits Kai’s head and he groans immediately, looking at Jennie with a low grunt, ‘are you crazy?’   “I might as well be because none of my friends are willing to help me. I need to change my group of circle who can actually make time to hurdle this situation with me.”    “You’ve gone psychotic, lady.”   “Why don’t you just buy someone or an ? Search in the websites, it’s literally 21st century and anything is possible. You get to have too so no complains.”    Jennie grits her teeth and throws yet another book at him, “This is why I don’t date guys.”   “Shut the up, you’re just a hopeless lesbian.”    The idea to get an is really appealing, and it ridicules Jennie that she’s giving it a thought. But what can she even do when all of her friends are busy? She needs an escapade and wasting money isn’t a problem here. She huffs, diverting her attention to the screen in front of her and getting this boring report to be done with.   “What a surprise seeing you here, unnie!”    Jennie looks up and is able to greet her friend? acquaintance? she doesn’t know what it is, but she waves at Lisa with a small smile.   “Hey, Lis.” Jennie says and the younger girl chuckles, sitting down at the empty chair beside her and Jennie doesn’t mind because they’ve been through this a lot and even though her breakup with Chaeyoung affected their friendship as well, she doesn’t feel awkward around her, they make small talks if they see eachother but that’s it.   “Oof, you already cramming for the upcoming tests?” Lisa questions the bunch of papers in the table and loads of words all over the laptop screen.    “Just finishing up with my report, I could be a mad woman to cram this early.”    “Would tick off your dear reputation if anyone hears it.” Lisa jokes to which Jennie slightly chuckles.   “Also, a small birdie told me you’re in the quest to find someone to be your date.”   Jennie’s eyes surely widens processing this new information, “Does everyone know!?”   “Kind of? The jocks were discussing it in their locker room too.”    “Is it Im Nayeon?” Jennie knows but she still asks.   “Who else?” Lisa laughs out a little loud for Jennie’s liking, this is clearly mocking her pride.   “That and her shameless mouth.” Jennie hisses, already taking out her phone to type some drastically damaging threats to Nayeon.   “And that you’re thinking of asking Chaeyoung?”    Jennie will definitely kill Nayeon and bury her somewhere no one else will find because WHAT THE HECK? Why is she going around spouting things that makes no sense? Not even the truth!? Oh god, if Lisa knows then Chaeyoung knows too, they are peas from the same pod and nothing gets by them; they tell eachother EVERYTHING.    “NO!” Jennie frantically absentmindedly shouts, startling Lisa.    “Wow the defense you’ve got there, unnie. Didn’t know you hated Chaeng that much.”   Oh, no no.   “I don’t hate her.” Jennie whispers barely audible for the person next to her to hear.    “Don’t believe Nayeon, it’s true that I need a date to accompany me but asking Chaeyoung is not in my list. I’m sure she wants nothing to do with me after I asked for the breakup. And her new girlfriend wouldn’t be that thrilled if I, the ex who broke her heart, asks her for this particular favor.”    Lisa stays stunned and questions, “Girlfriend?”   “Bae Suzy, the arrogant ‘know-it-all’ president of the art department.” Jennie subconsciously rolls her eyes and Lisa breaks into fits of giggle.   “Oh my god, she’s nothing like that, unnie! She’s very sweet and nice...can’t believe you’re still jealous because you bought this up on yourself.”    Jennie moves on to type in her report, “That’s what the rumor said, and I’m not jealous.”    Lisa silently stares at her and shakes her head, like she’s not believing what she’s seeing/thinking. It kind of frustrates her, so she sighs, “Both of you...are one of a kind.”    “What’s that supposed to mean?”    “Chaeyoung also—”   Jennie irks an eyebrow with the sudden halt of sentence from Lisa but the latter sheepishly smiles and  doesn’t say any further.   “What were you about to say?”   “Nothing of your concern, unnie.” Lisa sticks her tongue out to infuriate Jennie.   “Wait—has she been talking about me? If so, what?”    “I am her bestfriend and I’m not going to outsell my soulmate to the person who broke her heart.” Lisa says and Jennie has to be honest, the last part sounds scary and she’s sure that it was intentional.    The waiter brings forth another cup of coffee for Jennie and quickly leaves, dreading to serve those intimidating poisonous cat eyes. A sudden light bulbs pop top of Jennie’s head as she glances at Lisa, who has taken a paper off Jennie’s work and is spectating it with much focus.   Jennie clears her
