Eruption

The news about the Taal Volcano's eruption bothered some of the guests that made a reservation to Taal Vista, Escala, and other hotels in Tagaytay.

All she does is order us around, check the hotel's facebook page all day, sign some papers, and enjoy meriendas from the hotel's restaurant in the midst of those.

I can only imagine the damage and loss ng tourism sa Tagaytay because of this." I agreed kay Solar.

I explained, recalling the phone conversations I had earlier.

"Meron akong reservation for birthday party and pre-nup photo shoot.

Great.

May sari sarii kaming telepono but this time, itong sa akin lang ang tumunog.

"Thank you for calling Red Mare Hotel! How may I help you?" I tried to display a smile on my face so that my voice would sound happy and alive.

Number one rule when talking to a guest over the phone: smile as if you are talking face to face.

We are 55 kilometers away from Tagaytay. There are no ashfalls, and we will not cease operations." sunod sunod ang tanong ng client tungkol sa location at sa situation sa Hotel namin ngayon. "The office is open until 4:30pm. We can only accept ocular visits until then."

I checked the time on my wristwatch.

"Oh.. You're expecting to arrive at our hotel within 10 minutes?" kinagat ko ang labi ko, dinig ang mahinang pag tawa ng dalawang kasama ko sa office. "Sure, Ma'am! I would be glad to assist you. My name is Irene and you can ask for me at the front office. See you in a while, Ma'am!"

I ended the call and sighed. The client is inquiring about a wedding venue and the wedding is happening next week! Everything about their reservation and even the tiniest detail is finalized but they had to cancel it in Escala after hearing about the Taal's eruption earlier today. Our hotel was their second choice before choosing Escala and now they are looking to hold their wedding here after what happened in Tagaytay,

"I guess you will be staying here until I don't know what time." Solar softly chuckled which I just shrugged off.

I prepared myself and continued doing some of my reports as I wait for the guest's arrival. Kapag ganoon na I am expecting a guest, I wait for the call from the front office. Ang rule kasi ay kung sino ang nag cater sa guest during the phone inquiry, sila din ang magaasikaso from ocular visits until ma close ang deal. Last year, I got to manage most of the events held in the hotel, kaya medyo mataas din ang performance level ko dahil doon. I started building up my name in the industry. Some of the guests I got came from other guests I catered - referrals.

Ten minutes later, I received a phone call from the front desk informing me that my guest arrived.

It took me five minutes before arriving at the front office.

"Yes.. Miss Irene?" she accepted the hand that I offered and smiled back. "This is Hyojong, my fiance."

"Welcome to Red Mare Hotel, Ma'am and Sir! May I ask if this is your first time in our hotel?" sandali muna akong umupo sa harapan nila, iniintay ang cue ng front office at hk na pwede na kaming pumunta sa function hall.

"Yes. Before deciding on the location of our wedding, we considered this hotel. We just inquired but didn't have a chance to do an ocular visit. So this will be our first visit, too." I nodded my head to the bride-to-be and stood up when I was informed that we're good to go.

"Then I'd be glad to assist you, Ma'am and Sir. Are we closing the deal or are you here to just check on the site?" I asked.

"We would like to hold the wedding here." tumango ako.

Most of our guests in the hotel are foreigners. The rates are quite pricey for local guests kaya mas madalas ay foreigners ang guests namin. Although we, in the marketing team are thinking of strategies din para maka-attract ng local guests.

It's restaurants, function halls, hotel rooms, and other amenities. So I have no choice.

"We actually want a garden wedding. Set na sana ang lahat sa Escala, but things happened, so we probably will just do it in your function hall."

"We can offer our restaurant at the rooftop to make up with that, Ma'am. Pwede natin i-set up sa taas na parang mukhang garden." they both looked hesitant, posibleng naiisip ang presyo ng offer ko. Ngumiti ako to assure them. We'll just charge additionals for setting up the venue. But I believe this won't be too different from your budget with escala."

Part of my job and responsibility is to convince the guests to close the deal, of course. Tulad nito... they should expect na mataas ng konti ang rate lalo at biglaan at konti lang ang panahon para mag prepare. We are used to these rushed events pero the pay should be reasonable.

"Sure. We're fine with that." nginitian ako ni Sir Hyojong

"Then I guess it's time to finalize the details of the wedding?"

I invited them sa restaurant sa ground floor para doon mapag-usapan ang ibang details tungkol sa kasal. Usually, we would sign the contract right away.

5:30pm kasi ang out namin. Ginawa ko pa ang daily report ko na kailangan i-submit sa Operations Manager namin early tomorrow, so I had no choice but to go home late. May dagdag kaya ito sa paycheck ko? Walang kasiguruhan.

My parents died when I was young. Ate was in fourth-year high school when our parents died. We lived off our parents' retirement fees and trust funds. Ate studied Fashion Design and she's now a successful designer in New York, along with her bestfriend, Jessica.

Baka end of the world na 'yon." I just slightly chuckled sa sinabi ni Chaeyoung.

"Or baka wala na akong trabaho kapag nangyari 'yon." pareho silang binigyan ako ng makahulugang tingin, confused at gulat. "Relax. I have no plans of resigning, yet."

"Still?

Jennie and Chaeyoung shared about their careers na flourishing ngayon. May tig-dalawang clients sila and they're earning an average of $2k each month mula sa clients na iyon.

May mga paid courses naman online, and you have us to guide you, anyways.

She was quick to convince her sister to do the same, as soon as Rosé graduates.

I don't see it as a profession, as a job that you can be proud of. But I recently learned na iba-iba pala ang trabaho online. Jennie is a Digital Marketer, while Rosé is a Virtual Assistant and Graphic Designer.

I studied Marketing Management. I work at a famous hotel as a Sales Account Representative. My job is in line with the course I finished in college. But am I happy with my job? Am I still happy with my career?

It's like I'm only working just to make a living. I let each day to pass like it's just a routine. Like I'm doing this because I have to, not because I want to.

Most importantly.. am I doing this for myself? or am I only doing this because I'm waiting for her?

Chapter 42: Sobrang ganda 🥺 Probably the first Tagalog fic that I've read in a while na super daming emotions ang pinaramdam sa'kin 😩 Love how balanced the story is with the angst and fluff. Nothing too extravagant, just the story of them falling in love and how they surpassed all the struggles. Thank you so much for writing this author! Kumusta ka na po? I hope you're doing well, you really wrote this beautifully :)
