she knows
Description
A saida story with a beginning and an ending.
Inspired by the song "She" by Ed Sheeran.
“Stay with me tonight, Dahyun?”
“I shouldn’t.”
“But I need you...”
“Fine...I’ll stay-- just tonight though.”
Sana laughed quietly. “You say that every time.”
Foreword
If you are following me on Twitter, at the end of 2020, I hosted a little saida "oneshot" giveaway to get my writing juices flowing because I was experiencing a terrible writing block.
Anyway, a spinning wheel picked a random winner, and this prompt was chosen sent in by an anonymous person:
Dahyun badly wants to end the relationship. She thought it had come to the point where they have become so toxic, she started to fall out of love. But every time she tries to leave, there comes Sana with pleading eyes and a pained smile that's stopping her to do so.
As the song goes, "It's harder to leave with my heart on my sleeve than to stay and just pretend. "
Dahyun knows the feeling all too well.
I had to make a few changes to the prompt and wrote this letter to the anonymous winner:
To the anon who submitted the prompt,
Thank you for sending it in! I hope you don’t mind, I'm going to take a few liberties on the interpretation of the prompt, but I'll try my best to stay true to the idea of not being able to leave something you are very attached to, even though it's not the best for yourself at that time.
I guess the biggest change would be saida's “relationship”. I don't think I can write a story in which two people who are in a committed romantic relationship, become toxic to each other, and still end up together in the end.
Instead, I chose to go for the more loose definition of “relationship” which is just “the way in which two people are connected”. So, saida will have a relationship, but it won't be romantic (at the start). And also, instead of being directly toxic to each other, it's more like each of them is toxic to their own self, which in turn has effects on their relationships with others.
I felt like this was the best way for me to be comfortable writing an ending in which saida could still be together. Though, I guess you'd have to wait and see if I actually do end up writing them as endgame. *insert evil laugh*
There will be love but also the loss of it.
Only thing left to find out is if it can be found (again).
-kit.
tldr:
This was just my thought process of tweaking the prompt a little bit so I could still be comfortable with what I'm writing whilst staying true to what I believe to be the main idea of it.
(lol I wish I could have been able to chat with you about the changes, but all I can do is just hope you don't mind)
I initially only wanted to write ~1000 words for this piece. But once I started planning and writing, I got carried away (as I usually do). This has turned more into a ficlet with several parts.
