2JinWon/'00 Line | Valentine Girl (1/?)

Our Little Rendezvous

It started with Valentine's Week, when an enthusiastic Heejin was rambling all about love and its supposed wonders to an apathetic Hyunjin. Only for it to somehow drift into Hyunjin accepting a bet about getting herself a girlfriend within the week.

Heejin hadn't expected it'd be the elusive Chaewon she'd try winning over.

A/N: i'm too lazy to thoroughly check this 4k words chapter, so as always, mistakes are gonna pop up. also heyy, it's been a full year since i updated this oneshot collection. i'm so sorry for taking so long on writing this request! i couldn't figure out a good prompt, but hopefully, this was okay?? idk. hope yall enjoy anyway :]

BBC High typically had a "Valentine's Week" in celebration for the month of love—February. When the announcement first came, students, apart from the ones with their little high school sweethearts, gave the event a scowl. Complaints were already piling up on their tongues. But as the presentation progressed, to their surprise, it wouldn't be centered around romantic love to a significant other, but more towards self-love and everything else related to the concept.

Among the rows of students, Jeon Heejin, was ecstatically happy at the news. God knows how much she was a hopeless romantic and this Valentine's Week was simply an event that would enable her behavior even more. She was practically vibrating with excitement in her seat, brainstorming all sorts of ideas she can manage to execute for that week. It was clear the "self-love" concept of the event flew over her head once she heard the word "Valentine's".

Kim Hyunjin, on the other hand, was pleasantly surprised to say the least. She was full-on ready to skip the entire "Valentine's Week" with an excuse of something like bowel problems or an injury during soccer practice. Hearing that the school wasn't going to go with her initial assumptions of the event (plastering hearts everywhere and lovey-dovey actions constantly reminding her very single status wasn't something Hyunjin wanted at all), maybe it could be bearable in some sense.

Park Chaewon was absolutely mortified during the announcement. She was listening intensely, of course. It was an event that would last a full week as the name suggested, and with her near perfect attendance (a couple absents due to "valid" excuses), she was seriously considering going M.I.A to avoid anything to do with Valentine's. In her mind, this "Valentine's Week" was a horrible idea and she knew she couldn't do a single thing about it despite how much it irked her.

Once the presentation came to a close, the obnoxious ringing of the bell brought them back into reality. The students collectively let out an annoyed huff at the reminder that they have to go back to sitting in their classroom, absolutely bored out of their mind. The teens quickly scramble over to their respective classes.

The punishments at BBC High weren't forgiving, they've been heightened, much to everyone's dismay.

Heejin hurriedly grabs her books from her locker, hastily locking it, and as she turns to chase after Chaewon, she bumps into Hyunjin. The latter scoffs, a scowl presenting itself on her features. "Look at where you're going, Jeon," Hyunjin seethes, harshly pushing Heejin's glasses making the older take a step back.

"Kim," Heejin huffs, furrowing her eyebrows. "You're in my way," She bites back, purposefully bumping into Hyunjin as she walks away from her. Hyunjin's back hits her locker. She winces but quickly regains her composure, begrudgingly following Heejin's tail into their shared class.

Stepping inside the classroom, Heejin immediately spots Chaewon laying out her essentials on her desk. She doesn't mean to, but she freezes when the blonde looked up as if she sensed her staring. As she's about to raise a hand to greet her, Hyunjin nudges her shoulder with an unnecessary amount of force, grumbling, "You're blocking the way."

Heejin snaps her head to Hyunjin, throwing daggers to the girl's back with her glare. She shakes her head before turning back to Chaewon, who now had a small smile tugged on her lips. She mouths a good morning to her and receives one back. Heejin giggles, skipping away towards her seat with a doped out smile of her own.

Twirling her pen around her fingers, their math teacher finally steps in the room. Ms. Ji. She was a new addition to the staff, being the youngest one yet, which ultimately led her to be the main target for some students to be infatuated with.

Almost immediately, those students stood up from their seats and enthusiastically greeted the woman. "Good morning, Ms. Ji!" They said with in a sickeningly sweet tone laced in their voices, Hyunjin rolled her eyes at that, greeting the teacher in a monotone way.

Ms. Ji chuckled at the energetic display, earning a few flushed cheeks on her students. She gestures for them to sit down. "Good morning!" Suyeon neatly put her things atop the teacher's table, she huffs, "Today's gonna be a long one as—"

And Heejin blocked out whatever the woman had to say from that moment on. She melts on her little desk, laying her head on her crossed arms. Sneaking yet another look at Chaewon, seeing the girl diligently taking notes of whatever Ms. Ji was babbling about.

Looking back at the board, she sees it completely covered up with all sorts of figures, numbers, fractions and side notes. Feeling a painful headache coming on, Heejin buries her face in her arms, opting to take a quick nap to rid of her aches.

 "Jeon. Heejin."

Heejin jolts up awake to Ms. Ji's authoritative voice. She hastily wipes off her drool and adjusts her glasses. "Uhm— Y-yes, Ms. Ji?" Heejin meekly grins at her math teacher, even shooting weak finger guns in an effort to save herself. Her classmates snicker at her actions.

Looking over to where Chaewon sat at, Heejin finds that the girl had a straight face, not even bothering to tag along with the class' laughter aimed towards her. It was nice to know despite the embarrassment building up in her system.

"Heejin, you couldn't even last a minute without dozing off?" Ms. Ji folds her arms, giving Heejin a very stern look. The woman sighs heavily, pinching the bridge of her nose. "I'm going to have to give you detention."

The room fills with condescending Ooh's in the air. Heejin waves them off, playfully rolling her eyes at her classmates. "Okay, Ms. Ji, I won't put up a fight like last time." She takes out her handkerchief, waving it around the air as she surrenders.

("Oh, please, Ms. Ji!" Heejin was on her knees, pretending to sob before the woman. "You can't put me in detention. At least give me a warning or something, c'mon!" The class laughs at her unbelievable antics.)

(Heejin doesn't hear the woman tell her, "It's what the school wants me to do." as she took this opportunity to sneak a glance at her crush. She swears she even saw Chaewon stifle a giggle. Heejin supposes it's ok to embarrass herself if the girl found it funny.)

Ms. Ji shakes her head at Heejin. "We're going to talk after the lecture ends." Heejin deflates in her seat. Nothing was worse than hearing the older woman nag her ear off even when she clearly wasn't listening.

She sighs for the nth time, Heejin lazily nods. "Yes, Ms. Ji.."

After a handful of classes, the bell rings again, signaling it's time for lunch. Hyunjin was one who left without a friend to link arms with unlike the majority of her classmates. Her hands were stuffed into her pockets, juggling the money she had inside. She's about to go down the stairs when someone slings their arm around her neck, pulling her into a side-hug.

"Hey, Kim!"

Jeon Heejin.

"What are you doing, Jeon." It isn't even a question. It's more like a threat with how Hyunjin's neutral expression twists into a scowl once she recognized the girl that nearly made her see heaven. Hyunjin pries off the arm around her neck as she hurries downstairs to make her way towards the cafeteria. Heejin frowns but catches up to her anyway. "What? If you're gonna pull your pranks again, don't even bother."

"No, no," Heejin shakes a hand. "I just have a question."

Hyunjin stops in her tracks when Heejin nearly tripped because she foolishly decided to walk backwards just to face her when the cafeteria's packed with students. "Go," Hyunjin folds her arms together once Heejin finished apologizing to the person she bumped into.

"Who's your valentine?"

She lets out an annoyed groan and walks away from Heejin for a second time. Heejin doesn't get the chance to chase after her as she gets herself into a line, and she's getting pushed when she tries going after Hyunjin. "Hey, I was here first!" A girl tells her off when she tried squeezing herself behind Hyunjin.

Heejin grumbles then goes to the back of the line, eyeing Hyunjin who's getting herself a meal by the cafeteria ladies. She taps her thumb on the lunch tray as time went by excruciatingly slow. Once she finally got out with a tray full of food, Heejin whipped her head around to find Hyunjin. Her efforts are wasted as the girl seemingly vanished into thin air.

Hyeju flicks Hyunjin's head, snapping her out of her daze. "Ayo, Hyun, you good?" She saw the older girl completely zoned out when she walked towards their table.

Hyunjin gasps, rubbing at the reddening spot on her forehead. "Ouch. Did you really have to do that?" She glares at the younger girl before picking up her fork and toying with her food.

Hyeju merely shrugs at her. "I called your name five times. What was I supposed to do?" She quickly scarfs down the entire tray in a few seconds.

"I don't know. Maybe not hurt me?" Hyunjin nudges her, a pout forming onto her lips.

"Whatever." Hyeju sips her coffee. "Well, are you gonna answer my question?"

"What question?"

Hyeju rolls her eyes. "You only zone out if you're bothered by something, so let me ask again.. Are you okay?"

Mindlessly stirring her iced americano with her straw, Hyunjin purses her lips to think. "Chaewon caught me in the music room during our free period." She visibly cringes at the memory.

"Oh. Isn't that supposed to be good?"

"It is." Hyunjin's body slumps down on the table. "But it was embarrassing. She heard me sing!"

Hyeju makes a face. "And? You have a good voice, Hyun. I don't see the problem there. I'm just gonna assume you gay panicked when she caught you since you're so embarrassed." She goes back to sipping on her coffee.

Hyunjin covers her reddening face. She releases a weak groan at the feeling of warmth starting to pool in her chest, cheeks and ears.

Yerim slides next to them. "Hye, stop teasing Hyun." Hyeju immediately behaves, looking like a kicked puppy the moment she heard Yerim say her name in an authoritative tone.

Hyunjin stifles a giggle, muttering 'whipped' under her breath. Hyeju catches it and proceeds to elbow Hyunjin's side. And despite Yerim's protests, the duo suddenly decide to pretend to have a somewhat physical fight in the cafeteria.

The two don't hit each other that hard, but they decide to act like it for fun. This, of course, earns a bit of traction from the nearby tables, and eventually the majority of the cafeteria.

Yeojin could be seen taking out her phone and recording the fake altercation. Vivi, Sooyoung and Jinsol pay them no mind despite the forming audience Hyunjin and Hyeju are building. Haseul, Jungeun and Jiwoo peek for a split-second before scurrying off to avoid any detention slips in their hands. Heejin wasn't even seen anywhere.

When Hyunjin turns to look at the crowd, she accidentally makes eye contact with none other than Park Chaewon. This very much throws her off from her and Hyeju's mini-fight which ends her up with—

"Yerim, I swear I wasn't intending to give Hyun a legitimate black eye!" Hyeju hopelessly pleads to deaf ears. Yerim wasn't paying any attention to her, reasonably upset at the two girls. Hyeju huffs and turns to Hyunjin instead, whining, "Hyunjin, tell her. C'mon!"

Hyunjin looks back at Hyeju's eyes with her.. one eye. She switches between the younger's left and right eye, but eventually settles on one. Hyunjin heaves a sigh as she holds up the ice pack on her swollen right eye. She was about to spare Hyeju when the principal came in the nurse's office.

The trio immediately tense up on the spot. Hyunjin clenches her jaw as the older woman makes a beeline towards her, not even sparing Yerim and Hyeju a single glance. "Hello, Ms. Bae.." She swallows the lump in .

"Kim Hyunjin," The woman stares at her. The mere call for the eldest's name sent shivers down the trio's spine. "You know that our school doesn't tolerate fighting, right?"

Hyunjin hesitantly nods her head. Of course, she knew. It's plastered everywhere she went in this God forsaken school.

"Good." Joohyun pulls out a piece of paper and pen. Hyeju's eyes widen, she wasn't about to get suspended for this. "Tell me who did this and I'll give them a warning." At least it's just a warning.. Hyunjin glances between Yerim and Hyeju, who were anxiously fidgeting in their seats.

"It was me, Ms. Bae. I started it."

Hyunjin walks in with the detention slip that Ms. Bae hesitantly wrote as the older woman could clearly sense she was lying. Ms. Kim flashes her a welcoming smile, holding her hand out for Hyunjin to give her slip.

"Ooh, that must sting, huh?" Yeri gestures to her prominent black eye. Hyunjin gingerly nods. "Uh, yeah. It does." She gives a tight-lipped smile to the woman before walking off to sit front row in the mostly empty classroom.

And as if it couldn't get worse, an annoyingly familiar face comes in with a slip in hand. "Aye, YR. It's me again." Heejin chuckles, setting the piece of paper on the woman's desk. She turns to go to her usual spot but gets met with Hyunjin's cold glare.

"Oh, hey! Nice to see you again, Hyunjin." Heejin flashes a cocky smirk at the younger, waddling her way over to sit next to her.

Hyunjin furrows her eyebrows at her, catching how Heejin used a friendlier tone towards her. "Since when were we on first name basis, Jeon?" She narrows her eyes at the older girl beside her.

"Hey, c'mon, we're gonna spend— how many hours was it, Ms. Kim?" Heejin looks at the woman. "Two whole hours in this room, Kim Hyunjin. Might as well get into somewhat good terms, you know?" She sets her legs on the desk, letting herself get comfortable on the janky seat.

Hyunjin makes a disgusted expression at Heejin's behavior. Yeri merely shrugs at her when she looks at her, expecting her to scold the girl. "Whatever, Heejin." Hyunjin reluctantly lets the name roll off her tongue.

Heejin bubbles up giggles, happy to know Hyunjin actually listens to her sometimes. She follows suit with the younger's actions, handwriting "I promise not to fall asleep in class" over and over again.

At the third page of writing, the detention buddies stretch in their seats, rubbing at their strained muscles. As they were cracking their joints, Heejin and Hyunjin catch a glimpse of Chaewon walking towards somewhere through the small window the door has.

Heejin extends her neck to stare longer, though it fails as Hyunjin smacks the back of her head, stifling a giggle when Heejin pouts at her. "Ew. If I could, I would wipe off that ugly face of yours."

"Wow. Low blow, Hyun," Heejin huffs. She was one who took pride in her visuals. "I'm sorry I like Chaewon. I just wanted to look longer." Heejin rolls her eyes, sarcastically apologizing to the younger.

"You like Chaewon? Park Chaewon?" Hyunjin asks with slightly narrowed eyes. Great, yet another person who adored Chaewon.

Heejin turns back to her. "Who doesn't?" She quirks an eyebrow. Hyunjin purses her lips, looking away. "Oh, don't tell me you like her, too."

Hyunjin snaps her head back to Heejin at the accusation. She furiously denies, "No, no. I don't. I haven't even had a single crush in my life." Making an 'X' with her arms, Hyunjin shakes her head.

Yeri, nosy as ever, joins in their little interaction. "Chaewon? That kid used to practically live in detention." She chuckles at the faint memory of the then blonde coming in with a sour expression plastered on her beaten features.

"What?" Heejin scandalously gasps at Yeri's juicy intel about BBC High's supposed innocent Princess. "You sure this is about Park Chaewon? Not Kim Chaewon?"

"Park Chaewon, of course. That little squirt used to attend the same school I graduated from." Yeri waves her hand around. "You know I'm just a volunteer here, Heejin. I was really surprised when I saw Chaewon again. Talk about a glow up!"

Hyunjin watches the two animatedly talk about Chaewon's behavior in her past school, silently listening into the conversation. Heejin seems to entertain the idea of a rebellious Park Chaewon as Ms. Kim's gladly providing her more anecdotes of said girl.

"One time Chaewon managed to burn the school's kitchen by making nuggets! Chicken nuggets, I tell you—"

Hyunjin remains quiet for the rest of their time in detention.

The two eventually get dismissed after their two hours were up. They bid their goodbye's to Ms. Kim who gives them a few sweets before they went out. The duo give their last thanks before walking towards their respective lockers.

"I still can't believe you haven't had a crush yet," Heejin brings up again. Hyunjin only scoffs at the mocking tone of her voice. "No wonder you can't get a girlfriend.." Then she gasps. Heejin plants her hands on Hyunjin's shoulders and forces her to look at her in the eyes. "I have a bet to propose to you."

"No—"

"Since you can't get yourself a girlfriend, you should find someone on Valentine's week! Isn't it perfect timing?" Heejin sighs in an exaggerated lovestruck way. "Oh, how love is truly in the air~"

Hyunjin makes a disgusted face at how the older's rambling all about love and its supposed wonders, and rips Heejin's hands off her.

"Yah, you have to admit it's a good bet!"

As the duo get closer to their lockers, Heejin spots a bunny sticky note stuck onto her locker. She shows it off to Hyunjin who only rolls her eyes at her. Heejin giggles smugly at her before reading what the note had to offer to her.

"Hi, Heekki!"

Heekki? What a strange nickname..

"If you find that nickname weird, let me explain! >.< It's just that.. you resemble a bunny to me so Heejin + Tokki! Clever, right? Heh, I'm so smart."

Heejin stifles a chuckle. Cute.

"Anyway~! If you open your locker, I've left you a gift or two. Hopefully your new friend would motivate you to stay awake during Ms. Ji's class ^^;; If you don't, we'll get upset at you == !!"

Oh?

Hyunjin rolls her eyes at Heejin for the nth time this day. She watches the older girl's cheek dust with pink and resists the urge to gag at the sight. She opens her own locker only to be met with a bag with a note designed like a cat attached to it. Hyunjin elicits a muted gasp, genuinely surprised at this kind gesture.

Hyunjin hastily shoves her things into the locker before carefully taking the bag out. She doesn't bother to flaunt like Heejin did moments earlier.

"Hello, Hyun :D !!"

Hyunjin couldn't help but crack a small smile at the cute handwriting.

"It's sad to see that pretty face of yours being in pain with that black eye.. :["

Ah, they think I'm pretty? Hyunjin feels her ears heat up a bit.

"So, I took it upon myself to give you some things to help you! Hopefully you get better soon <3 I'll see you next time :]"

Oh..?

Heejin and Hyunjin awkwardly look at each other with their respective gifts in hand. Hyunjin narrows her eyes at Heejin's bunny plush and iced tea, whilst Heejin stares at Hyunjin's meds, bread, and coffee.

Heejin breaks their shared silence with a rough cough. "So.." She wiggles her eyebrows, making Hyunjin frown. "You got a girlfriend now, or a secret admirer just like me?

"An admirer, I guess.." Hyunjin drops the meds and bread back into the bag. She takes a sip of the coffee. It's the exactly how she likes it.

"Nice, nice." Heejin's eyes glint with something Hyunjin can't quite decipher. "This won't stop me from pursuing Chaewon though."

Hyunjin harshly closes her locker, scaring Heejin as the girl flinches horribly. A smug smirk curves on her lips. "Not if I do it first." She winks then proceeds to walk away from the girl, lazily waving her hand goodbye as she retreats.

Heejin's rendered speechless at her frenemy basically challenging her to a competition on who could win Chaewon's heart first, the same Chaewon Hyunjin denied taking interest to earlier.

Well, she wasn't gonna let herself lose to Kim Hyunjin.

"I accept the bet," Hyunjin supplies when Heejin finally snaps out of her daze and walks up next to her.

Heejin sputters, "What?" She nervously chuckles. "You're really accepting the bet? The Kim Hyunjin finally succumbs to my teasing after all these years?!"

She lightly shakes her head. "Don't get me wrong, Jeon—"

"Heejin."

"—Jeon," She glares at her for the interruption. "I only want to prove you wrong. I admit my inexperience in romantic relationships, but I will not accept the assumption that I cannot get myself a girlfriend because of it." Hyunjin inches her face closer to the older in an effort to intimidate her. "I can get myself a girlfriend, Jeon. Just watch me."

The older girl grows confused when Hyunjin sneakily plucks a rose from some guy's bouquet and a smirk tugs on her lips when she nears a locker Heejin's far too familiar with.

"H-hey—" Heejin tries squeezing a question in, but Hyunjin's already reached her destination and it's a shock for Heejin and everyone else in proximity.

Half-bowing, getting into a somewhat graceful pose as she offers her stolen rose, Hyunjin plasters a charming smile to none other than— "Park Chaewon, I bow before thee to make my presence, as one of your suiters, known," She lays out in the most monotone voice.

Completely silent during the entire exchange, Chaewon's expression is vague. There's a pregnant pause between the entire hallway, then Chaewon snorts and turns away from the girl to open her locker with a shake of her head at Hyunjin's shenanigans.

Hyunjin straightens up. She frowns at the lack of reaction or response out of the girl. This simply won't do. "Chae—"

Then an avalanche of letters flow out of Chaewon's locker, flying absolutely everywhere, even hitting Hyunjin's face. Chaewon squeaks, melting into a humiliated, blushing mush at the mess she indirectly caused. How did this ungodly amount of letters even manage to fit in her tiny locker in the first place?!

Oh, she knew that the little letter making activity during the Valentine's Week announcement was a bad idea.

"I'm so sorry, everyone," Chaewon apologizes to the other students nearby with a rushed half-bow and flustered "sorry's" slipping out of her. She hurriedly crouches down to pick up a handful of love letters, then shakes when she realizes she doesn't have anything with her to store them in.

Heejin, after several moments of silence, finally enters the scene, offering a trash bag fresh from the roll. She receives judgmental stares from both Hyunjin and Chaewon. "I-I clean the streets with Jiwoo-unnie afterschool.. Don't look at me like that." Heejin looks away, a twinge of embarrassment rumbling within her system at their fiery gazes.

"Thank you," Chaewon accepts the strange yet helpful offer with a smile Heejin doesn't even get to see. Hyunjin swoops in to take action by offering to help her with stuffing the letters in the bag.

When Heejin and Hyunjin reach out for the same letter, they snap their heads up to look at each other with wide eyes. Heejin snatches the letter and shoves it in the bag, shocking Hyunjin.

"I'm not losing to you."
