Yewon called in sick the next day. Her stomach was aching slightly from the peanut butter and it was Monday, meeting with business associates this early in the week would hardly bother her. Instead, she would catch up on some unfinished paperwork from the comfort of her own office. After she had made one stop of course.

First things first, Yewon messaged Eunbi. Even though she would already be on her way to work, if not already at work, Yewon still wanted Eunbi to know that she was thinking about her.

‘Have a good first day back at work, Sergeant. I hope everything goes smoothly. I’ll see you tonight x’

Yewon went to shower and get ready. The earlier she got to the shop, the more time she would have before Eunbi finished work. She dressed quickly and met her driver downstairs, giving him directions to the shop she had found the night before.

The bell above the door rang as Yewon opened the door, announcing her arrival. Walking through the shelves of camera and photography equipment, Yewon made her way towards the counter. A bored-looking guy who stood behind the counter, scrolling through his phone, Yewon cleared when the guy didn’t acknowledge her presence. He sighed, looking up from his phone.

“Can I help you?” He asked in a monotonous voice. Yewon raised an eyebrow at his tone, looking at him with disdain. Reaching into her bag, she brought out Eunbi’s camera and placed it gently on the counter.

“I’m looking for the parts for this model,” Yewon told him, crossing her arms as she stared at him.

“Polaroid cameras are in that direction,” He pointed to Yewon’s left side.

“Great, so do you have any parts for this model?” Yewon asked, growing impatient by his attitude.

Sighing, the guy straightened up, looking at Yewon with an annoyed look on his face. “Look, that camera is ancient, you would be better off buying a new one,” He told her, before putting his attention back on his phone.

Yewon banged one hand on the counter, making the guy jump. He looked up at her in shock, his phone falling out of his hands and onto the counter. “You listen here. If I wanted a new camera, I would buy one,” Yewon snapped, her face like stone. “So how about you do your job and help me instead of playing on your phone?”

The guy gave Yewon a sullen look, before disappearing to the back and reappearing a few minutes later with a few broken cameras. “These are the same model, they don’t work but if you take them apart you can resume the parts that work,” He muttered.

“Great, how much?” Yewon asked, pulling her purse out of her bag.

She left after a few minutes, the bell ringing as she walked out and slid into the back seat of the car, stationed at the curb waiting for her. She smiled to herself, happy that she had been able to get parts for Eunbi’s camera and a packet of film for the camera. All that’s left is hoping the camera would work again.

Back at her apartment, Yewon was sitting behind her desk, surrounded by camera parts There was an open tutorial on the computer in front of her and Yewon stared intently at it while she removed the gears and parts from Eunbi’s camera. Luckily the camera had dried out overnight, so the plastic pieces were salvageable. In front of her was just a spread of wires and metal gears.

She worked all afternoon on the camera, determined to get it working again. Her paperwork was piled on the chair away from her desk, forgotten as she focused on making the camera work again. She had put it together three times and each time failing, she began growing increasingly more frustrated as each assemble of the camera ended up in a failure. When it hit 4 pm, Yewon had finally managed to get Eunbi’s camera full of working parts.

Pointing the lens of the camera towards her, Yewon smiled, giving the camera a thumbs-up as she snapped a photo to see if it was working. She gave out a triumphant yell when the flash went off and the film had begun printing her picture. She smiled widely at the film, hiding it under the desk so that the film would develop in the darkness. Bringing it back out she saw her face smiling back at her.

As she brushed all the leftover pieces from the other camera into a box. Yewon thought about how she couldn’t wait for Eunbi to finish work so she could surprise her.

Yewon got a text from Eunbi that she finished work at six, telling her it went well and she would be at her place as soon as she could. Smiling, Yewon called Eunbi’s favorite Chinese restaurant, placing a delivery for half an hour so that the food would get her just before Eunbi did.

45 minutes later there was a knock on Yewon’s door and she leaped up from the sofa, rushing to open the door. Revealing Eunbi, dressed in her camouflage-patterned shirt and pants with black, shiny boots. Yewon smirked at Eunbi as she gave her salute.

“Sergeant,” Yewon laughed
