A/N: Anime bc Japan.      "My grandfather is a monk," Kento was saying, Kyungsoo demanding him to bring us to them. It was obvious that it wasn't something a Catholic church could do. The Catholic church, Kyungsoo explained, was never fond of containing ghosts.   Handlers always had to have a certain religion and Do Kyungsoo's family had been a family of handlers who had been Catholic for so long. Kyungsoo told us that he had many handler friends, however, and they were avid believers of Buddhism, Hinduism, or even Zenism; which I didn't know existed until he told us about it.   The temple a little bit further than we expected, all of us getting off the van. Harin was being well looked over, Sehun told us. He didn't want to bring her and worry about her. The temple had a certain air of serenity around it. The roof was red and dried leaves were on the ground, the crunching sound serving as white noise as we made our way towards the open door traditional Japanese house.   "Kento?" The voice of an old man whispered and Kento answered with a grunt. Another string of Japanese I did not understand, Kento finally stepping forward. An old man emerged from the side and his beard was white, the male spotting all of us. The man frowned as he toddled towards us. He was wearing Japanese traditional clothing and when he reached me, he gasped.   "What, what, what?" Kai demanded, the man shaking his head over and over again.   "Kento, what happened?"   "My grandfather is a clairvoyant," Kento explained, a hand going to grab his grandfather around the arm to gently move him to the inside of the house. "He must have seen something. Come in. The least we can do is try to relax."   Once we had seated down, Kento's grandfather; Kaseki, as we learned to know, wasn't the same type of clairvoyant as I was. He could see possibilities, the future that was about to come and he kept muttering under his breath.   "Does that mean we'll all have to die?" I asked Kento, the male shaking his head.   "His visions are simply possibilities; the universe communicates with him and a person's vision changes as things change. For now, all of you will die," Kento told us simply. "But he says he has a way to fix it. My grandfather is what you would call a Sohei. They are Japanese monks and go through a high level of spiritual training."   His grandfather was moving around his little house, grabbing a few books here and there when he finally fell back onto his and very adorably struggled to cross his legs.   "Old," he mumbled in English, pointing to himself and we slowly nodded. He grumbled, Kento throwing us a dirty look as if to say that we shouldn't agree with him. We all then shook our heads and he brightened up.   "He wants to tell us about the history of how onryo's came to be." Kento began, his grandfather continuing to speak. "It is believed that the onryo came to be because it was an ikiryo."   "A what? What's that?"   "An ikiryo is a disembodied spirit. So basically, a ghost that leaves its body. It's believed that Hara was a lovely woman who was very envied for her beauty. She had turned down multiple suitors when one day, one of them slipped something into her drink and she fell asleep." Kento looked over to his grandfather. "Hara fell asleep but she could disconnect her spirit from her body."   "We believe in those things, too. Lucid Dreaming."   Kento nodded.   "She watched as the man assaulted her sleeping body, Hara feeling betrayed because he was one of her closest friends. And in the olden days of Japan, men and women are not supposed to be friends. She finally realized that he had fooled her to touch her."   "She must have been pissed."   "Those who can detach their souls away from their body are known to be able to travel into the spiritual world. And their souls are much more powerful because it has a body to go back to." Kento pressed his lips together. "That kind of soul is called an ikiryo. Guess what happened then."   "Did she begin to kill people while her soul was detached?"   "Yes. As an inkiryo, she began to haunt men who she thought deserved to die. Her ikiryo soul was so filled with hatred for men and the power she got from killing had turned her soul dark. Every night, as she became more powerful, each time she returned to her body, she was less human."   "What happened after that?"   "This story is famous because it speaks of a single person who became multiple creatures of folklore. As she returned to her body one day, the evil had seeped into her skin and she became an oni-- a demon woman. With that, she began to terrorize everyone in her physical form."   " going through different phases of puberty and I just had one." Sehun shook his head.   "They tried to kill her but she had horns. A monster, per se. She finally died but that wasn't the end of it. She had been killing people without her body, what makes you think that she'd stop now that she didn't have a body?" Kento paused. "She began to kill people as a ghost once more-- With her body said and her being an evil spirit, that is the birth of an onryo."   "Cool," Baekhyun whispered and he frowned at him.   "What did they do after that?"   "They trapped her onryo soul inside her body. It was a dead fresh body and once that happened, they finally put her in a coffin and sealed it. The Egyptians did it too. Like tomb raiders and Indiana Jones."   "Sorry, but I see no relevance," Kai told Kento, the younger male saying that he actually enjoyed watching the movie. "You're saying that we need to find a body and trap her in it? How do we do that? I know they did it before."   "People don't get rid of onryo's because one... Where do we find a body in modern japan? You can't just buy bodies from hospitals." Kento said, Sehun saying that he could and he would if it meant destroying the onryo. "Two, an onryo will only go into a body if someone can keep them there. I think you guys know by now that these souls move very fast. We need someone to lead her back to where she belongs and we have to seal it."   "Can we not obliviate it?" Kyungsoo asked. "Grim Reapers--"   "Yes, but do you have time to contact a Grim Reaper? It's such a long process and Zen Grim Reapers do not like obliviating. They are zen for a reason. They simply come to clean up." Kento rolled his eyes. " They believe that whatever happens to the dead or the living is part of the life cycle. Karma, to say. They do not like helping the living."   "I've heard of that." Kyungsoo nodded. "That is why after we contain this soul, I'll contact one of my own."   "That's good enough. Now, the question is... Where do we find a body?" Kento asked. Sehun and Minseok; the businessmen of our group already on their phones. "They got it, don't they?"   "They do. Let's hope this works," Chanyeol breathed. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________   At least we had a plan, I told myself.   All we had to do was find a body, trap her back in the well like how the Egyptians did, and maybe make sure no one would ever release her until we found a way to get rid of her. Kyungsoo couldn't obliviate her on his own and if the containing worked, he'd contact a Grim Reaper and ask him to handle the onryo.   "Rest. In two days, hopefully, it'll be over." That was what Kai told me. He had shadows under his eyes and even Chanyeol looked drained-- which was weird because Chanyeol was often full of energy. He was a swimmer and he had quite a stamina.   I agreed and we both headed back to our rooms. Kai and Chanyeol decided to stay together, in case the whole 'curse spreads to people around you' thing was true. Since Baekhyun and Minseok did not enter the house, they were meant to room together. Sehun... Despite him not entering the house, he refused to leave Harin.   "If she wants to kill my wife, she can kill me, too," Sehun said and Baekhyun told him not to say that.   I sat on the bed, chewing on my bottom lip when Kyungsoo said something. I gave out a grunt, reading an article on onryo's when he reached out and prodded me.   "Wait, let me finish reading this first," I told him when he moved in front of me, trying to get my attention. He said my name and I began to feel annoyed, snapping at him.   "What?"   I looked up to ask him when I gasped, his eyes looking like they were clawed out. Blood dripped down his chin and onto his chest. The white shirt he was wearing was soaked with blood and stuck to his skin and the whole world seemed to be in a haze, Kyungsoo leaning forward as I gawked at him.   I could see the holes of his eye sockets and I opened my mouth to scream when he said my name.   "Bora?”   I blinked.   He was no longer in front of me but by the table, the handler flipping through another national geographic magazine. He tilted his head at me.   "What are you looking at?" He asked and I cleared my throat. Was I hallucinating? "Why do I hear you talking to someone?"   "You," I quickly answered. "I said, let me finish reading this, and I'll go shower."   "You don't have to tell me that. I finished showering an hour ago," he told me and I grabbed an extra towel, going to the bathroom, and closing the door behind me. I was seeing things. I was tired and seeing things.   Ghosts couldn't make people hallucinate, right? I've never seen that happen before. I slipped my robe out and stepped into the shower, my hands rubbing my skin with soap. I began to scrub my skin over and over again, a hand going to adjust the heat of the water heater.   This felt good. This felt better.   I closed my eyes, allowing the water droplets to splash against my face when I lathered shampoo on my scalp. I rubbed it, the foam coming up and I pressed the tips of my fingers against my scalp when I sighed. I loved washing my hair, it sometimes felt so satisfying.   I dropped my hands to the side and reached for the conditioner when I froze. The pressure on my scalp was still there-- the moving, the massaging of fingers combing through my hair when I felt a breath against my ears. The problem was, they weren't my fingers.   A soft eerie whisper, a woman speaking to me.   "You... I want you."
Suddenly, I felt full-blown fingers in my hair, my head pulled back as water splashed around me. This time I screamed, my hands going against the wall to steady myself when I began to vomit, retching out hair and black liquid from between my lips.   Kyungsoo burst through the doors, a towel on his head to give me privacy, demanding to know what had happened because he had heard me scream. Right at that moment, both of our phones could be heard ringing in the background, the ghost gone as I quickly rinsed myself off and grabbed a robe.   "She was here. The onryo," I told him, Kyungsoo's eyes went wide. I tied the robe and grabbed my phone, hearing Chanyeol yell out, telling us to go to their room.   "Kai, stop! Noona, please--"   The phone call got cut and I didn't even wait for Kyungsoo. I rushed out into the hall, going straight for Kai and Chanyeol's room when I heard the sound of a mirror shattering. Sehun, Harin, Baekhyun, and Minseok also opened their doors.   "Noona!" Chanyeol bellowed out and when I reached their room, I saw that Kai's eyes had rolled backward, the whites of his eyes showing. He was slamming his head against the mirror, over and over again, Chanyeol trying to hold him back.   Chanyeol grabbed Kai's arm, Kai turning to shove Chanyeol on the chest. Chanyeol toppled backward and I saw a trickle of blood drip down Kai's forehead, a wide cut slashed from the broken mirror.   "Kai!" I managed to say and with a mention of his name, Kai had turned to me, his iris' gone when a sinister smile traveled up his face. "Stay away from him."   "All of you will die," Kai hissed in a voice that wasn't his and when I looked back at what was left of the mirror, I saw a woman on the ceiling. Her lips were lifted up in the same smile Kai had on his face when Kyungsoo pushed Kai down on the floor, the detective fighting against the priest's grip.   "All of you will die."   His voice quieted down, Kyungsoo pressing his cross against Kai's forehead when the ghost had disappeared. At that time, Harin doubled over, vomiting on the carpet, and just like me-- black liquid came out, pieces of long hair on the ground. Harin choked, Sehun holding her as she gasped, tugging the hair from .   Sehun hissed. "I need a body now. I am not waiting two days."   "In two days," I found myself saying, my voice suddenly not mine. "All of you will die." ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________   Kai and Harin were sent to the hospital and we rushed towards the house. While we were sitting in the car, Sehun pressing down on the accelerator, I could saw flashes of a woman sitting by Chanyeol.   Chanyeol too, felt like he wanted to vomit. His eyes were red and Kento quickly placed a bracelet on him to provide him with as much protection as he could.   Kento was already in the house when we arrived, Sehun telling us that a body was on its way. It didn’t matter what kind of body it was, all we had to do was to make sure it did its job. The moment we reached the house, Baekhyun and Minseok waited outside in case something happened. I refused to let my brother enter the house and I knew that the ghost would haunt both of them if they did.   Sehun too, had to wait right in front.   The moment Kento’s grandfather entered the place, I saw how his face turned pale from the energy that threatened to kill all of us. Everyone was frantically trying to keep themselves together and before we knew it, Kyungsoo and Chanyeol quickly helped each other bring the dead body in.   “Bora… you okay?”

Chapter 32: Read it again~ i love how it first started like a simple and casual feat story that revolves around activities with friends. Like how episodes with their own stories each week’s broadcast. Then as it went to season 2, the plot thickens and it felt like reading a novel. Love how the characters grown together and i really love Matthew’s character! Glad Bora and Matthew have their happy ending in the end 🌷
