In My Blood

“Oh so you don’t do things like this? Then why did you invite me outside?” I smirk, raising an eyebrow towards the black haired boy sitting next to me, even though I already knew the answer.   “Because you smell good.” He admits, eyes flashing red at the smell of my blood inside my veins.   I already knew the effect my blood had on him, his had the same effect on me but I continue playing dumb, “Smell good?”   “Your perfume.” He quickly adds, since he did not know we were of the same kind.   “Ah, I see. Do you have some sort of kink that has to do with smells?” I snort playfully to which he sighs. I lean in towards him, “You already got me out here alone, why don’t you taste me?”   His eyes quickly dilate but a look of confusion crosses his face. “What?”   “I said, why don’t you kiss me?” I smile innocently like I had actually said kiss instead of taste.   He looks at me out of the corners of his eyes, almost seductively. They were a pair of eyes I’ve seen many times before, a pair I didn’t think I’d get to see anymore after the event ten years ago. But somehow, here he was before me, no longer human, just like myself. Only he didn’t seem to remember me like I remembered him. It was probably the shock that caused him to forget.   The both of us were turned unwillingly and the amount of shock our bodies go through in the process of changing can definitely change a person. Lucky for me my changing was supervised by an individual in whom was good. For Doyoung perhaps he did not have that, or maybe he didn’t have someone watching over him at all, resulting in the trauma from before and during the changing to be erased, forgotten.   Doyoung seemed to have never run into our kind before, which doesn’t surprise me. Most of us tend to keep to ourselves. Or used to, so it seems maybe the thought of him being on his own during his change was what really happened.   Doyoung, was curious, I’m positive. I could sense from him that he was the type of vampire that refused to kill for blood, he held himself back, restricted his diet. So, I’m sure he wondered why his hunger for my blood was so prevalent. I’m sure he was wracking his very brain right now about his morals and if he should just press his teeth into my skin and me dry. The urge to do that to him was strong, but I’m very in control of myself. And even if I were to him dry he’d be fine, he’s a vampire, he’d just need to feed some more before he starved too death.   I knew what it meant to be deadly attracted to someone’s blood that wasn’t human. They weren’t your food. They were way more than that. He was my mate. It happens to those of us that were not originally vampires. If you have a lover before you turn, and they are turned too, the memory of them is imprinted into your very being.   It’s probably the universe’s way of saying sorry to you that you came across such an ill fate. We were immortal now, we’d have to watch everyone we’ve ever loved, our families, those who have not been turned and remain human die. But if one of them was to turn, the universe grants us one happy thing.   Doyoung was curious of why he felt like this about some random woman’s blood. It’s possible he could control himself and turn away but judging from the way his eyes waver between brown and red I could tell he was going to give in.   I purposefully bite into my lip pretending it was an accident, that I was acting pensive since he hadn’t replied to the comment about the kiss. “Oh shoot.” I bring my hand towards my lip to wipe at my blood. “Your silence is making me nervous.” I admit shyly trying to play it off.   His hand grips onto my wrist stopping me from collecting the blood onto my finger. He quickly leans forward, lips parting as they press onto my opened ones. His tongue quickly runs along my lip as he uses the kiss as an excuse to taste my blood. He lets out a low groan once his tongue runs along what little blood came from the wound.   Pride swirls in my chest at how easily he gave in to me. My arms wind up and around his neck as my lips press back into his trying to taste him again after all these years. It wasn’t his blood I was after in this moment, just the taste of him in general.   I hear the door to the balcony of the club we were at open up but I ignore it, still basking in the taste of Doyoung and he too was very much still absorbed with tasting me.   “Haru.” Someone clears their voice, which causes me to pull back, Doyoung chases after my lips but I quickly stand remembering the reason we were at this club in the first place. It wasn’t to see Doyoung. I just had managed to catch a glimpse of him due to how amazing he smelled. It was a pure coincidence that I finally found him.   Karina and Joy stood at the entrance to the balcony, Karina wore a shocked expression, whilst Joy only smirked towards me. “I’m sorry, I lost track of time.” I smile innocently towards them like I wasn’t just tonguing it down with a guy they didn’t know, but for sure could tell was of our kind. “Did you get plenty to drink?” I raise my eyebrow towards Joy.   Her eyes dart to Doyoung before landing back on me, “Oh definitely, Sicheng and Ningning are wasted,” She lies, since alcohol wasn’t the drink I was referring to. “So Winter was thinking it was time to go.”   I smile innocently, “Tell Taeyong or Taeil to bring the van around.”   Joy nods, arm looping through Karina’s. “Will your uh-friend be joining us?”   I glance at Doyoung, who was still slightly dazed but realizes he was being mentioned, standing up, “No, he won’t.”   Both girls nod, knowing he wasn’t a threat, nor was he a candidate for joining our group yet. They both head back inside and I sigh to myself moving after them.   Doyoung stops me by pulling me back towards him. “You’re just going to leave?”   I remove his hand from my arm, “Yes, I have to. My friends are leaving.”   He swallows thickly, the action causing his adam’s apple to move up then down, something that makes me want to press my teeth into his neck but I don’t. “Can we at least exchange numbers so I can see you again?”   I shake my head no, “No, you don’t do these types of things remember.” I .   He rolls his eyes, “You’re an exception.”   I bite my lip, if I didn’t know he was only curious about my blood I’d think he was flirting with me.   I rest my hand on his arm, “We’ll meet again, don’t you worry, Doyoung.”   His forehead creases at the mention of his name, “How did you know my name?”   My hand raises to press against his lips to quiet him. “I know a lot about you, more than you think.”   I back up and he steps forward to stop me but Taeil is stepping through the doorway this time eyes moving between the two of us. “Rides here, Haru.”   “Until we meet again.” I wink.   -   “So, how many did we get tonight?” I glance at Taeyong who sat in the passenger seat of the van checking off the list of people we were after.   “Six.” He sighs, sitting the clipboard down. “I guess half of them didn’t show.”   I frown, “Why not?”   He runs a hand through his hair, eyes trailing over to me. “A new club opened up, they all went there.”   “A new hunting ground, perfect.” I my lips at the news.   Taeil whines from the driver’s seat, “Not perfect, now we have to map out an entire new club and get in good with the staff. Ugh.”   We were killing people yes, it’s what we did to survive. I can’t say I’m ashamed of myself since it’s what we had to do to survive but as a former human I did sometimes feel like a psychopath. We were only killing horrible humans. We had lists, we investigated them, we preyed on them at the clubs they frequented.   The six tonight were some of the most awful. Human traffickers, rapists, those who beat women and children, those who take the lives of the innocent, those who harm es, anyone who we determined evil.   “If only half of us didn’t look like we’re ing seventeen, it’d make my job much easier,” Taeil murmurs focusing his attention back on the road.   I lean back into my seat with a sigh, it was true, most of us were turned during our mid teens to mid twenties. But we had all been alive for longer than people thought. I had the body of a twenty-four year old but I had been alive for thirty-four years. Winter and Taeil were the oldest of us. Winter was nineteen physically but alive for forty years. Taeil barely older than me physically but alive for forty-three.   Then we have some of our youngest, Ningning and Sicheng. Ningning physically was eighteen but had only been turned less than a year ago. Sicheng was physically twenty-three and was also turned less than a year ago.   And then we have those who were born vampires. Taeyong, Joy, Jaemin, Karina, and Giselle. We all met and created a family of sorts because we felt safer together. Most of our kind stuck to themselves because if the humans found out about us they’d for sure kill us all. It was better to just look out for yourself in that type of situation but we found a sense of harmony in our group and we’ve survived as one for seven years now.   Doyoung was turned slightly before I was. He fell prey to a vampire who was out of control. I witnessed it happen and tried to stop him from killing Doyoung. I was successful but that only turned his attention towards me.   Doyoung though, had his venom in his veins already and thus started his change, alone in his own apartment. While I ran from the vampire trying to keep him from Doyoung. I, at the time thought what I was doing was best, I had no idea what we were up against truthfully.   Before that incident I assumed vampires were a mere myth. But I was wrong.   While running from the vampire I end up getting hit my a car, the person didn’t stop and kept going. And the vampire, he caught up with me. But lucky for me, Taeyong and Joy were there to witness it.   They took care of the vampire for me, for if one of our kind begins to get out of hand and risk outing us to the humans we have to get rid of them. It was quick, them ending his life. Almost as quick as I was dying in the middle of the road. Taeyong was quick to notice and out of pity he ended up biting me, leaving his venom to slowly burn through my veins.   It took me days to awaken and when I did it was with a hunger for blood. One that was different from that of the books I read with vampire characters. I didn’t have a dying thirst for blood.   It was sort of just like I was hungry like any regular human would be hungry. I could eat human food, yes, but it was like eating junk food. It only kept me full for so long. My body was eating up much more energy than before. I would become anemic if I didn’t drink blood.   And on day five I remember Doyoung. When Taeyong deems its fine for me to meet the others I meet Taeil, Winter, and Jaemin. Joy is the one that goes with me to find Doyoung, only he is not where I last left him. Our bed in which we shared is empty, the bed where he last laid. There was a blood stain on the pillow from where he bled from his neck after being bitten but that’s the only thing left of him.   I did not know if he made it through the night, if there was more than one vampire after him, or if he changed and just up and walked off not remembering anything since his changing was so tragic.   But he was alive, I confirmed it tonight.   Throughout the past ten years we met Karina and Giselle whom were desperately trying to stay alive on their own. And then like Taeyong found me before, we found Sicheng and Ningning.   “So, who was the gentleman that distracted you from your duties tonight?” Joy finally asks the question she’s been dying to ask since she walked out onto the balcony. “I never thought I’d see the day someone distracts Do Haru from her tasks.”   I roll my eyes towards her over-exaggeration. “No one.”   Karina snorts, elbowing me from my other side. “No one, my . You had your tongues down each other’s throats when we walked out.”   “Oh , really?” Winter gasps leaning over the seat from behind me. “I wish I could’ve seen it!” I glance back to glare at her but she quickly backs up sticking her tongue out at me.   Taeyong hums, “Was he human?”   “No, he definitely smelt of a human turned vampire.” Karina hums, eyebrows wiggling towards me. “So..?”   I let out a puff of air annoyed, “It’s just, he’s Doyoung.”   Taeil is quick to slam on the breaks at the mention of Doyoung’s name causing everyone to cling to their seats, Taeyong quickly whips his head around towards me, Joy letting out a gasp. “The Kim Doyoung from before your accident?”   I slowly nod, “Yes, it’s him.”   Taeyong unbuckles his belt turning fully towards me, “And you let us leave him there?”   I shrug lowering my gaze, “I didn’t feel it was appropriate to throw him into our group at this very moment.”   Joy hums sadly, she could see right through me. “He doesn’t remember
