Description

An innocent fan-author interaction turns into something more, but the fear of facing reality held them back and the choice between a beautiful story or a sad ending falls on their next move.

Foreword

Donghae was bored out of his mind trying to find something to do. It has been a tough week and a rough month for him with almost nothing going his way.

He looked around his room and blankly stared at everything around him. His books were scattered on the floor around his bed; pens, pencils, highlighters were all over the place almost as though his backpack exploded with its contents falling haphazardly on the floor. Donghae knew in the back of his mind that he should probably clean up...he just couldn’t find it in him to actually do it. He neither had the will or the motivation to do so.

Life for Donghae has been very bland for a while now. It was hard to describe what it was exactly that bothered him. Was it the excessive amount of work he had to do for his course? Probably. Could it be related to his family pressuring him to graduate, find a job, and get married as though those things just magically happened in that order? Possibly. That one has been following him around his whole life ever since his first day of school. An annoying mantra that’s been bombarded at him incessantly with no regard for his own opinion on the matter. His family had set the expectation and it was now up to him to fulfill it.

Donghae flipped himself to his back and stared at the ceiling trying to rack his brain to try and figure out what was wrong with him. Why can’t I be happy?

Ding!

Donghae didn’t take his eyes away from the ceiling and blindly reached for his phone that was placed somewhere on his right, probably close to where his legs laid lifelessly. He patted around the bed for it until he felt the familiar hardness of his phone case before blinking his eyes and shifting his attention to said device. Donghae held his phone over his face and the screen to properly look at the notification he just received and as soon as his eyes saw the familiar username that’s been embedded in his mind for months, he immediately sat up straight before swiping the screen open.

Notification: jewelfish143 has updated ‘With You Always’

Donghae didn’t waste another second and followed the link that his phone provided him. For the next three minutes, all of Donghae’s attention was on the story of his favorite fanfic writer. His eyes followed the words intently as he imagined each described scenario as vividly as he can in his head.

“What do you want from me?” Millie asked, her tone genuinely curious but the slight tremor in her voice indicated how nervous she was at finding out the answer.

“I like you.”

She couldn’t find it in her heart to believe him. “Why?”

“Because I do.” Jihyun answered. “I like everything about you.”

“That doesn’t answer my question.”

“Mil-”

“Just tell me what you want from me!” She finally yelled, completely frustrated at the lack of answer she was getting from Jihyun.

“You! I want you, okay!?” Jihyun yelled back his frustration that the other would keep on questioning his intentions over and over again.

“Oh !” Donghae exclaimed after reading that part and eagerly scrolled down trying to find out more about how the story was going to develop. His heart thumped against his chest as he absorbed the words of the story in his head and took each feeling he felt to heart. It was silly, he thought, but he just couldn’t help himself. He got attached to the story as the characters’ words and feelings resonated with him.

Once he reached the ending of the story, a small sense of dread was triggered in his mind as it looked for a proper closure.

“What?! No!” Donghae said out loud before scrolling further down the page to read the author’s note his favorite author left for them.

A/N: Hey, guys! I hope you like my update! XD I’m really happy you’re enjoying their story so far. There’s still a lot in store for our favorite couple so please keep supporting them - haha. Let me know your thoughts at the bottom! :)

Without giving it a second thought, Donghae clicked the comment section to leave his feedback.

Nemo1015: Author-niiim! NO FAIR! That’s a total cliffhanger -- I hope they get their happy ending soon. Let them be happy together please. My heart can’t take this suspense of will-they-won’t-they anymore...hahahahah. You’re really the best! Thank you <3

Donghae submitted his comment and fell back on his bed with a lazy smile on his face. Reading “With You Always” was one of his guilty pleasures and the hook that brought him into the world of creative writing, also known as fanfic writing. There are thousands of works out there, but somehow, he always gravitated towards this particular author and their work. It was driving his mind crazy how much he loved their words and stories to the point that it would literally either make or break his day.

He took a deep breath and a long exhale in an effort to try and calm himself. The minute he had to himself felt like forever that he ended up turning his phone again to go back to his favorite author’s page to reread some of their other works. He was ready to read an old fluff from way back when, when he received a notification that someone replied to his comment. He pressed on the message and it immediately brought him to the comment he just made.

His breath hitched with his eyes wide seeing the username of what could very possibly be his most favorite person in the world replying to his comment five minutes after posting it.

jewilfish143: omg!! It’s you! <3 Thank you so much for reading and always leaving me a comment. It really makes my day~ T_T you have no idea…of course, I can’t break my favorite reader’s heart like that so I promise that they will have a happy ending. :) Stay tuned and see ;) haha

Donghae’s heart fluttered seeing the short message and without even knowing it, he was laughing quietly to himself. His mood has improved substantially with just that one simple message from jewilfish143. All of a sudden, life didn’t seem to be that bad anymore.

a/n: Hello, everyone ^^ I hope you like my first story here. My friend that I met through here shared something very recently with me and I got her permission to turn it into a fanfic haha....If for some reason this story sounds very familiar to you, it's because of that. This is based on a true story and I SWEAR I just couldn't wait to turn it into a fanfic haha -- she didn't tell me any names specifically, so if this is you, don't worry. I have no idea who you are :p (although if you want to tell me your side of things, feel free to DM me haha ^^;) I hope you like it and I do her story justice. Thank you. :)
