Chapter 19 - Motherly Expectations
A Quest for Joy"Friend? You made friends?" Her step mother scoffed, "Who is it?"
"Her name is Tiffany...Hwang..She is just my classmate."
Stephanie Hwang? "Here is the phone, you got 10 minutes." Mrs. Im handed her the phone and was about to close the door.
"Oh by the way, tomorrow morning we need to talk. And don't worry about getting to class late."
Mrs. Im told her to drop the phone at the door and knock when she's done with it and expects it to be there in 10 minutes.
Taeyeon and her step mother was sitting in the living room, Taeyeon sitting at the sofa perpendicular to her mom's.
"How was last night? Did you guys have fun?"
"Sure. Cut the crap what do you want from me?" Taeyeon rolled her eyes, her step mother never cared if she had "fun" or any experience she had for that matter.
"It seemed like you did, I could hear you guys' laughter all night." Mrs. Im told her.
"Oh? I am very grateful you didn't interrupt us then." Taeyeon replied cooly
"Can I ask how did you two meet?" Mrs. Im is being surprisingly calm and gentle in the way she is speaking. Which appeared very odd to Taeyeon, as she either get the harsh words or the cold shoulder treatment. Maybe once or twice, she would talk to her in a normal voice when Yoona was around. But never was she this gentle.
Well this is new. Did I wake up at the wrong side of the world? Taeyeon thought to herself. "She is my classmate...seatmate to be exact. Why are you asking this? Don't tell me you care about who I am friends with?"
"Oh? That's good news." Mrs. Im smiled at her for the first time, "what about Jessica?"
"I don't even talk wi...Why are you suddenly so interested in what's going on with me?"
"You don't talk with her? I see. Well Tiffany is a very good girl too, you will do fine with her. You know you never behaved like your age, you always put up...whatever this is that you are surrounding yourself with. I thought it's quite interesting. I expected you to be scared when we adopted you. Angry or sad, perhaps. But you were none of those things, you weren't happy either nor did you complain. Although you had lost your memories, you still seem like there's always something on your mind nagging at you. Like a small sliver of memory had latched on to you, but you just can't figure it out. Or maybe this cold front is, I don't know, just runs in your family...Speaking of your family, I am telling you the truth, Tae. My family, before you came, barely had any connections in Seoul, besides your uncle and Mr. Jung. Your uncle knew my husband for a while, they met at a bar. He helped save my husband from a bunch of thugs and what a coincidence? Your uncle needed an accountant for his security department, since then he been in and out of the city for God knows what reason. But I have never seen an accountant
