"one day when you're sad like that,

just try laughing once."

someday - gfriend

the girls loudly laughed at sinb's and yerin's story.

"wah, sinb-ah, how'd you even manage to push that boy down?" eunha snickered.

sinb squinted at the other eunbi. "what do you mean by that?"

sowon patted the two eunbi's heads "hey, calm down."

"hmp." eunha huffed out. "it was a genuine question."

"sure." sinb said then laid her head on yerin's lap.

yerin started combing sinb's hair with her fingers.

"let me have a look." yuju snatched the scrapbook. "aigoo~"

umji rested her head on yuju's shoulders. "omo, cute~"

"why, why?" yerin tilted her head.

yuju showed the picture to yerin. "it's us, yerin-unnie!"

the picture showed nine-year-old yerin smiling brightly with a equally happy eight-year-old yuju beside her.

"hey," sinb pointed at the scrapbook. "i took that photo!"

yuju looked back at the photo. "oh, yeah. you did!"

heavy footsteps were made, hands frantically trying to wipe away tears. loud sobbing couldn't help but escape from a nine-year-old's mouth.

jung yerin couldn't stop the bullying towards her even if she tried to. the girl wasn't what her other peers expected her to be, and she was targeted for that.

"t-this is-" a whimper. "so s-stupid."

yerin never understood why she was picked on for that reason. she supposed the other kids were that bored to randomly bully another kid their age.

the nine-year-old eventually found herself by the school's bathroom. the reflection in the mirror showing her reddened features. her eyebrows furrowed in anger.

she pointed at the mirror. "you, jung yerin, shouldn't be affected!" the said girl goes to the sink below the mirror.

yerin the water, and gently placed her glasses in her pocket then splashed water on her face. she wiped off the water with the sleeve of her jacket.

"aish, why are they like that.." yerin couldn't help but sigh. "it's okay, i guess."

the girl fixed herself up, intensely looking at her features to make sure any trace of her sudden breakdown wasn't present anymore.

yerin fished out her glasses from her pocket and set it on the bridge of her nose. she gripped on her bag straps tightly, evening out her breathing once more.

"you're okay." yerin said, then left the bathroom.

**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚

messily throwing her notebooks and pencil case in her bag, the eight-year-old bid her teacher a goodbye as she slipped her bag straps on her shoulders.

choi yuna, a bright yet dense eight-year-old girl managed to fit in with the other kids despite being an airhead at times. the other kids called her puppy as she acted and resembled one.

she was in the hallways when a sudden tap on her shoulder made the girl flinch. the eight-year-old turned her body to face whoever it was.

"hey, yuna-yah!" a bunny like girl excitedly hopped around. "how are you?"

yuna placed her hand on her chest. "you scared me, eunbi-unnie."

jung eunbi, a eight-year-old girl that everyone collectively called the bunny girl for her bunny-like antics and features. the two girls have been classmates since the older transferred. yuna and eunbi clicked immediately and always hung out in and out of school.

the bunny always followed around a taller girl during the first few weeks of her being in the school. but now she's improved and made multiple friends already with her outgoing personality.

the said girl immediately frowned. "really? i didn't mean to.."

"no worries!" yuna assured the older. "anyways, i'm feeling okay today. what about you?"

eunbi went back to her happy persona. "i'm happy!"

the slightly taller of the two raised her eyebrows. "why?"

"well," the small girl waved a paper bag infront of the taller. "eomma made cookies again."

yuna's eyes sparkled, mouth already watering. "ooh, can i have some?"

"of course!" the younger was about to take a cookie when eunbi hid it behind her back again. "but let's eat it at your place"

yuna pouted. "why?" her back slouched, clearly unhappy.

"i wanna hang out." eunbi scrunched up her nose in a teasingly way. "or you can't have any!"

the younger sighed. "you can go first, unnie. i have to go to my locker."

the older obliged. "sure! i'll wait for you in your house."

**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚

the moment yerin turned a corner another body crashed into her, making her fall on the ground. somehow her glasses got thrown off by the contact, along with the other girl's books.

"i'm so sorry!" the girl said.

yerin whinced. "n-no it's okay."

the nine-year-old gathered the books and stood up to hand them to the girl.

"thank you." the girl crouched and picked up her glasses. "here."

yerin took her glasses and wore it immediately. "thanks."

"again, i'm so sorry for bumping into you." the girl rubbed her nape. "i didn't mean to be in your way."

yerin waved her hand around. "it's fine!" she chuckled "anyways, i have to go to my locker."

"oh, okay."

the two nodded at each other before going to their own locker.

yerin hastily put in her lock combination, opening it once it unlocked. stuffing her unnecessary items in the locker. unbeknownst to the nine-year-old, a curious puppy looked in concern at her.

the waterfalls on girl's cheeks keep flowing. and even though the puppy loved waterfalls, she hated this one. yuna furrowed her eyebrows as she tries to identify the girl.

she knew it was the girl she bumped into seconds earlier, but she wanted to know who this girl was.

the older girl kept sniffling despite putting up a mask that she was fine, her puffed up features heavily deceived her. yerin wiped off the tears once more before lazily closing her locker and walking away.

yuna frowned at the girl then back at the girl's locker. she walked towards the locker, and took out her sticky notes.

while walking home, yuna somehow caught up to yerin. the two glanced at each other from time to time. awkwardness enveloped them.

yerin didn't know who yuna was, and yuna didn't know who yerin was. but they both called the other the-girl-i-bumped-into-at-school.

the puppy decided to be brave, she opened to speak.

"..do you live around here?" yerin's hands gripped tigher on her bag straps.

yuna turned her head towards the girl beside her for a second. "... yeah."

silence.

yuna was usually a chatterbox, but she felt the other girl didn't want to talk. so the puppy just kept shut tighly. while as yerin wanted to talk, but her body didn't seem to comply to her thoughts.

the rest of the walk was quiet. they both awkwardly nodded at each other when the other went to the other way.

**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚

the next school day, yerin examined the piece of paper stuck to her locker. flipping it front and back trying to find any signs of a name other than the message left on it.

'hey, please smile more!

crying doesn't suit you :("

then a drawing of a dog was drawn on the bottom corner of the note. yerin frowned, because she couldn't find out whoever left this.

the nine-year-old didn't have much friends, her peers only talked to her if it was needed. they reluctantly did it with a face yerin couldn't quite decipher.

"yah, jung yerin-ah." yerin jumped at the sudden voice calling out for her.

"y-yes?" she turned, the girl immediately scowled. "aish, sojung-unnie."

kim sojung, aged ten. the older girl approached yerin first, as the two of them had been paired up for a project that required a partner. the younger was surprised when sojung approached her about it. yerin didn't know about it because she was absent for the day due to a fever.

the two got along well when doing the said project. yerin got upset when they finally finished the project, but the older decided to surprise her with offering her friendship to the girl.

"hey, how have you been holding up?" sojung gave the girl a paper bag.

yerin accepted it immediately. "same old."

the older frowned. "kids still picking on you?"

"yeah." the younger adjusted her glasses. " it doesn't stop, really."

sojung sighed. her eyes looked at yerin's locker, spotting a yellow note on it. "oh?"

"why?" yerin furrowed her eyebrows, and followed sojung's line of view. "oh."

"who left that?" the older pointed at the note. "do you have a new friend?"

"i don't know," the younger shook her head. "and no." she said as she turned her head to sojung.

sojung hummed. "weird." her eyes looked back at yerin. "well, should we get to class?"

yerin smiled a bit. "sure."

**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚

yuna sighed for the nth time in class. the puppy fumbled and twirled her pencil around her fingers trying to be entertained as her mind was clouded with other issues.

"yuna?" the teacher called out.

the said girl snapped her head at the teacher. "yes?"

"are you okay?" the woman asked as the other kids looked at yuna.

"w-well," the teacher squints her eyes. "ah, it's nothing.."

yuna slumped in her seat. "are you sure?" the teacher raised an eyebrow.

"yes.." the puppy lopsidedly smiled.

"okay then.." with that, the lesson continued.

the bunny suspiciously eyed the puppy beside her, but thought to ask later.

kids pushed around and about in the cafeteria. yelling and laughter mixed creating a loud setting. yuna tightly gripped on the food tray as she sat down on one of the tables.

eunbi tilted her head and looked with concern for the zooned out girl before her. the older girl picked out some of the meat from her plate and placed it on the younger's plate.

"huh?" yuna softly said.

the bunny puffed up. "what's the matter with you today?"

puppy eyes looked up at her. "what do you mean?"

"what do i mean?" eunbi frowned. "you've been acting weird.."

"have i?" yuna tilted her head now.

the bunny slouched and groaned out in frustration. "what's with the questions!"

the younger remained mum and started to mindlessly poke at her food. the girl was so invested with playing with her food she didn't even notice another body sitting next to eunbi.

"hi, eunbi-yah." the slightly taller kid greeted.

the said girl squealed. "hello, sojung-unnie!"

"how are you?" sojung asked before munching on her food.

"i'm fine." eunbi smiled. "what about you?"

"i'm good." the older sighed out. "classes have been a bit iffy though."

the two started to have a normal conversation, seemingly forgetting the pitiful puppy in front of them. yuna wouldn't admit, but she listened to the duo's talking.

"oh yeah! my friend got this note on her locker." sojung suddenly said.

the puppy perked up at that.

"really? why would your friend get one?" eunbi expectantly looked up at sojung.

"she gets picked on a lot," sojung grimaced. "so someone must've tried to cheer her up."

"that's," eunbi sipped on her apple juice. "really nice of them."

"yeah, i hope they keep sending her those." sojung smiled at the thought.

yuna began to eat her food, thinking of possible messages for sojung's friend.

**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚

a full week went by, yerin's locker kept receiving those little sticky notes on it. although the girl very much appreciated it, she would love to find out who's behind all these messages.

and that's exactly what she got today.

the teacher glanced at their watch. "oh, we finished a little early."

countless pair of eyes expectantly looked at the teacher.

the older man sighed. "early dismissal it is."

the children immediately gathered their things and fixed up their bag. the others already left and bid a quick goodbye to the man.

yerin takes time to fix up her things. "yerin-ah,"

"yes?" the girl stops to look at her teacher.

"turn off the lights when you go out, okay?" the man stands by the door.

yerin mindlessly nods. "a-ah, i will."

the teacher nods back and leaves. yerin picks up her notebook and sets it in her bag nicely. the nine-year-old finally zips up her bag and sets the straps on her shoulders.

a handful of eight to ten year olds are talking loudly by their respective lockers. yerin walks by a couple of boys and they immediately snicker at her.

the nine-year-old simply scoffs at them.

she looks up and stops dead in her tracks when she spots a familiar piece of paper between a unfamiliar girl's hands. yerin immediately hides behind a taller girl.

the girl first looks around warily before carefully sticking the small yellow paper on the front of the locker. her eyes lit up as her lips lift up into a smile.

yerin tilts her head, fixing up the glasses on the bridge of her nose as she stares intently at the girl. her own lips starting to curve up slightly seeing the girl.

"what are you doing?"

yerin jumps and makes a small noise when a voice suddenly speaks to her. she angirly turns to look at the person, only to be met with fox-like eyes.

"ugh, sojung-unnie!" yerin furrows her eyebrows, her lips pursed.

the older girl snorts at the furious girl. "that's me." she makes jazz hands.

"i hate you." the younger rolls her eyes.

"no, you don't!" sojung snickers before tilting her head. "what were you looking at?"

"a-ah, nothing." yerin stammers. "nothing important."

the fox stares at the poor chick's eyes. the girl's eyes shake as they have a short staring contest.

"really?" sojung purses her lips. "are you lying to me, jung yerin?"

the said girl looks past sojung, the girl was now walking away with.. jung eunbi?

yerin breathes out. "..eunbi-ssi?"

"where?" the fox snaps her head to where the chick was looking at.

sojung looks disappointed when she doesn't spot a small bunny hopping around. she turns to yerin once again.

"what's up with you?" the older scowls at the girl.

yerin looks back at sojung's eyes then waves her hand around. "it's nothing!"

sojung thinks it isn't nothing, but doesn't dare to push the younger's buttons. despite yerin's seemingly weak demeanor, the girl had a strength of a teenager.

the fox shivers at the thought of the chick beating her up. but deep inside she knows the girl would never hurt anyone unless it was needed.

yerin stares at the zoned out sojung. "unnie?"

"oh, sorry." she smiles. "do you wanna have lunch with me and eunbi?"

"well-" yerin speaks, but gets interrupted.

"don't." sojungs holds a finger up. "i know you aren't busy with some made up homework, so please eat with us."

the fox tries to give her best puppy eyes to yerin. she even clasps her hands together and pleads to the girl.

yerin looks around, trying to look like she's thinking about it.

"plea-"

"alright."

"what?" sojung's eyes widen. "really?"

"yeah." yerin playfully rolls her eyes.

the older laughs proudly. "did my cuteness work that much for you?"

"don't push it." the younger groans as the girl before her pouts.

**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚

yerin stares at the yellow paper she took before going to the cafeteria with sojung. she smiles as spots the familiar goofy looking dog doodle on the corner of the paper.

sojung sets her tray down on the table as she carefully sits beside a small girl. the sound of the tray hitting the table takes yerin out of her trance and quickly pockets the note.

"hello!" eunbi greets the two with a toothy smile.

yerin nods the girl while sojung happily greets back at the girl. the chick puts down her tray and takes a seat opposite of sojung.

the three began munching on their food, stopping every now and then to keep the conversation going.

"do you remember yuna?" eunbi asks towards sojung. "you've met her already."

"yeah." the fox sips on her orange juice. "what about her? is she okay"

the bunny smiles seeing how the fox seems to already care for her friend.

"she'll be joining us in a bit."

yerin looks at eunbi and asks. "who?"

"a-ah," the girl giggles softly. "yuna is a friend of mine!"

"she's in the same class as me, so we get along well."

the chick hums in response.

after what seems like an eternity for yerin as she watches the two animatedly talk. another tray of food comes into her peripherals.

"ah, yuna-yah!" eunbi looks up and gives the same toothy grin to the said girl.

sojung nods at the girl. "hello, yuna-ssi."

yerin slowly looks up at the now sitting girl beside her. her lips part as she stares.

"sojung-unnie, i thought we were friends already?" yuna feigns a pout.

sojung cheekily smiles at yuna.

"oh, right!" eunbi points to yerin. "this is yerin-unnie!"

yuna turned her attention to the weirdly quiet girl. their eyes met and immediately widened. the two stared and stared until sojung coughed.

"oh." yuna shook her head. "hi, i'm choi yuna." the puppy took our her hand for the chick to shake.

yerin hesitantly took it and shook it. "yeah, i've.. heard." her eyes glanced at the small bunny.

"yah," yuna let go of yerin's hand and whined to eunbi. "what did you say?"

the bunny threw her hands up in the air. "i didn't say anything bad!"

the puppy's eyes glare at sojung's foxy ones. "you!"

"what? no!" the fox's eyes look like it's about to pop out.

yuna felt betrayed. what did those two tell the pretty girl beside her? she was about to burst until laughter bubbled up from the said pretty girl. soft patting on her arm was made while the girl giggled.

"they said nothing bad, yuna-ssi." yerin showed off her signature eye smile.

and that smile untimately made the puppy melt.

**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚

ever since that day, the four always hung out together. yerin seemed to shine more now that atleast more than one person liked being around her. the girl enjoyed the company, but couldn't help but be devasted when the notes stopped appearing on her locker.

a sorrowful sigh escaped the nine-year-old's lips.

it was the weekend, so she couldn't stick around the trio. during these days yerin would sit around a specific spot in the local park. she'd either study or admire the skies.

today was one of the days where she'd take in the beauty of the blue skies. but instead of moping around, her mind fills with how much she's enjoying the trio's company so far.

yerin closed her eyes, but immediately shot open when a familiar voice called out.

"hey, yerin-unnie." yuna softly greeted as she lied down beside the other girl.

the older grinned. "hi, yuna-yah."

"admiring the sky?" the younger asked.

yerin hummed. "yeah."

yuna closed her eyes, taking in the warmth from the sun and cool wind.

"do you remember when i told you about the notes?"

the puppy tensed. "y-yes..?"

"i haven't gotten those recently.." yuna turned to look at yerin, only to see the girl pouting.

yerin added. "i really want to know who sends those."

the puppy turned back to look at the vibrant sky. it's now or never, right?

"unnie." yuna breathed out.

"what's up?"

"i'm the one that wrote you those."

yerin propped up her elbows to look at the girl beside her. "what? really? are you joking or-"

"i'm serious!" yuna sat up. "i noticed you looked like you cried so.. yeah."

"oh." the older laid back down. "so it was you.."

yuna moved to lay her back on the tree. "it was i."

"why'd you stop?" yerin glared at the puppy.

the girl playfully rolled her eyes. "well, you seem happy now."

the icy cold glare turned into a soft and warm as a she beamed.

"i am."

yuna's eyes shined. "does that mean you love us?"

"what?" yerin furrowed her eyebrows. "what does that have to do with you three?"

the girl simply raised both of her eyebrows. "unnie."

"okay, fine." yerin closed her eyes again. "i do love you three."

"and thank you for writing all those notes."

extra: (end of my red power ranger)

"i forgive you." eunbi stuck her tongue out to yerin.

yuna crept up behind them. "hey!"

the two jumped and screamed.

"eunbi, protect me!" yerin wrapped around the tiny girl's frame.

eunbi threw her arms up. "who goes there!"

the puppy backed off. "it's me, yuna.."

the small kitten glared at her as yerin groaned. "you seriously need to stop doing that."

"doing what?" yuna tilted her head.

eunbi remained upset at the puppy.

the girl remained airheadded. "i saw you two taking a photo."

"yeah, what about it?" eunbi crossed her arms.

"i want one too!" yuna gave her iconic puppy eyes to the kitten.

"okay, stop. c'mere." yerin put her hand over the puppy's face.

"eunbi-yah, take the photo please?"

the girl scowled, but it was her yerin-unnie so she complied. yuna excitedly sat beside yerin and smiled brightly when eunbi pointed her camera toward them.

flash.
