Present

"Ohhh, there are still people coming?" Lily wiped her lips with her napkin as a knock put a halt to their conversation. Regret washed over her as soon as her fingers touched the knob when she heard her gradmother say, "Oh he made it! That boy, he never disappoints!" Oh no.

"Hey."

"Uhh..hi. I didn't know you were coming." There was silence.

"It was a short notice. I was close to town when your grandmother called. How could I say no? She's just the sweetest."

She agreed. One couldn't just say no to Granny Marlee.

They stood there in silence for about a minute or two before he finally broke it off. "Should we go in?"

"Well, of course."

"Kai! I'm glad you made it." It was a delight to see Granny Marlee take off her seat and just plunge with her arms wide at the tall boy coming in.

"Well I hope I'm not too late!" He chuckled as she returned her squeeze.

Lily leaned at the nearby cupboard and smiled at the scene of welcome Kai received before her.

"I missed him too grandma." She thought.
