My Version of Junji Ito's Tomie

LayDZhang's Project Collection

The work above was inspired from one of Junji Ito's early masterpiece, a manga titled Tomie. I made it somewhere during college, one of my last work. The first picture was drawn using an ordinary pencil while the other one, I just use an ordinary  ballpen to enhance the shadings and outlines.

Fun fact: She is wearing my highschool uniform. Oh I miss to wear it again!

About Tomie: (here's what I found in the internet)

Tomie Kawakami is a femme fatale with long black hair and a beauty mark just under her left eye. She can seduce nearly any man, and drive them to murder as well, even though the victim is often Tomie herself. While one lover seeks to keep her for himself, another grows terrified of the immortal succubus. But soon they realize that no matter how many times they kill her, the world will never be free of Tomie.

Why I love Tomie?

The character is already weird and much the whole story but what really drawn me to this story is... Because it was made by Junji Ito. There's just something about his illustrations, it's like he set a trap on his readers and you can't stop reading until the end.

It's always nice and uplifting seeing someone wanting to visualise their stories or base stories on their drawings/paintings and find their passion again. Heck, I do it as well, and develop from there, or even if it is only a possible cover. I hope you keep up the good work!
