Forget about Him

When Minji woke up the next morning, her eyes were drawn to a strange creature sitting on her bed. It was translucent, made of light, and had a similar shape to a cat. Its glowing eyes focused on her and ignited a spark of fear within her. She screamed, moving back until she hit the headboard. The creature flinched but didn’t leave. Instead, it fixated her with a curiosity typical for a feline. Mere seconds after her shriek had shattered the silence in the apartment, Baëkhyun nearly tore the door from its hinges and scrutinized her, expecting her to be dying, but his shoulders relaxed when he saw the scene before him. He smirked at her apparent fear of the unknown creature, his eyes gleaming with malicious joy.

“G-Get that thing away from me!” she screeched.

“No,” he retorted, thoroughly enjoying her torment.

“Why not? Can’t you for once do something useful?” she whined, not taking her eyes off the weird creature. It kept moving closer to her, perking its ears up.

“Don’t be ridiculous; it won’t hurt you.” And he was right. The strange cat sat beside her, putting a translucent paw on her thigh without harming her. The small feline reminded her of a ghost.

“What is that?” she asked, her curiosity now piqued.

“It’s a lower-class light demon,” he explained. “All demons pertain to a certain element, and this one belongs to mine. I’m guessing it’s attracted to you because it sensed our bond. Normally, demons like this one would hurt regular humans,” he added with an evil smirk, and Minji cringed.

“Why did it appear suddenly?” she asked.

“Oh, it didn’t appear suddenly. It has been lingering in this apartment for days, following you around,” he sneered.

Minji furrowed her brows at his revelation. “What?! Why didn’t you say something? And why didn’t I notice it sooner?”

He shrugged. “I didn’t care. And as for why you didn’t see it… the longer you’re around me, the more your body will grow accustomed to the supernatural. It seems like you can see demons of my kin now, and soon you will be able to see other creatures too.” He arrogantly raised his chin. “Only high-class demons can make themselves visible to humans; ghosts and lower-class demons remain invisible to regular people.”

“What if I don’t want to see them?”

“Should have thought about that before you bound yourself to me,” he snarked and left the room, deeming their conversation over.

This, yet again, was a lot to take in. Seeing ghosts and demons wasn’t something she wanted; she was content with living in obliviousness. Ignorance was bliss. Besides, she doubted all demons were as friendly as her stalker cat.

Speaking of which, it snuggled up against her leg, purring quietly. She observed the creature with wide eyes, discovering tiny light particles within its translucent body. Reluctantly, she reached out her hand and touched it with her fingertips, feeling soft fur under her skin. Even though the cat was translucent, she couldn’t reach through it since its body was solid. It was fascinating and a little disturbing, but since the demon didn’t pose a threat to her, she didn’t shy away from touching it anymore. She was upset at Baëkhyun for never mentioning its presence, but then again, she would have freaked out or thought he was messing with her. Minji wondered what other side effects she would experience in the future—some of them might be dangerous. Too dangerous for a human to handle.

She nudged the cat a little, gently pushing it off her because she wanted to get up. Minji headed to the bathroom to shower and got dressed in a comfy shirt and sweatpants afterward. Next, she went to the kitchen, the tiny demon trailing after her. It observed her curiously while she made breakfast. When Baëkhyun joined them a while later, he watched the scene with raised eyebrows.

“If only you were as nice as this cat,” was Minji’s snarky comment to him, which instantly was rewarded by a scowl.

“Don’t compare me to such a lowly demon,” he growled. Minji wasn’t offended by his rude tone since she was already used to it. Her new roommate was either indifferent, irritated, or making fun of her. In other words, Baëkhyun had the emotional capacity of a teaspoon.

“It’s much nicer than you, though.”

“Disrespectful human,” he scowled.

Minji swallowed her pride and smiled reluctantly. “Look, I’m sorry. Maybe we should make an effort to get along better. We just keep arguing, but we should focus on breaking the bond instead. What do you think, Baëkhyun?”

His silence prompted her to glance at him—and he seemed downright shocked at her proposal. However, when he narrowed his eyes at her, Minji knew he would disagree. “You’re behaving strangely, human. Are you sick?”

“Can you not complain over everything I do?” she said annoyedly. “Jae wouldn’t act like this.”

“Is that the name of your new boyfriend?” he asked with a sour tone and stood right in front of her. Stunned by his proximity, she hardly registered the slight tingling of her mark and the warm light it emanated. “I bet I could easily make you forget about him,” Baëkhyun added, his gaze filled with an emotion Minji couldn’t describe. The air felt heavy all of a sudden, laden with tension.

Her gaze moved from his bright blue eyes down to the chain on his cheekbones and lower until they reached his lips. His hand found its way to her chin, holding it in place. As he leaned in, his breath grazed her soft lips, making her shudder in anticipation. She was spellbound, the unnatural power he radiated enveloping her, yet she didn’t back away. A thrill she had never experienced before rushed through her body. Minji took a shaky breath as his fingertips danced over her skin, cupping her cheeks. Then, he kissed her for the very first time. She instinctively closed her eyes, leaning into his touch, feeling his lips move against hers. The kiss was demanding and rough. He tasted like cinnamon and ash, an intoxicating mix that clouded her mind. This felt different than it did with Jaehyun—it ignited a fiery hot passion in her stomach.

Minji was mesmerized. However, she quelled the traitorous sensation and focused on what was truly important: No matter how amazing this demon kissed, he was a spawn of hell, and she would rather die than give in to him. With this thought in mind, she found the resolve to shove him away.

“Stop it, Baëkhyun!”

“Why? I know you enjoyed it,” he drawled. The smirk on his sinful lips made her resolve crumble to dust. Even though her desire was quickly rekindled, she fought it down. Baëkhyun aimed to get under her skin, and she wouldn’t let him. He was merely a filthy demon—manipulating people, fabricating sweet lies and false promises was what he did best. She couldn’t trust this selfish bastard.

“I didn’t,” she retorted. “Jaehyun is a better kisser.”

He scoffed, deeply offended. “How dare you compare me to a lowly human!”

“Just leave me alone, Baëkhyun.”

“You’re forgetting something important here,” he said, his fingers trailing over her collarbones, resting over her heart and feeling its nervous thumps. ”Your life is mine. I will never leave you be.”

Minji couldn’t hold his heavy gaze any longer and glanced at the floor instead. She wanted to be rid of him; he was a curse, the worst she could have possibly encountered. When she mustered up the courage to meet his eyes, the anguish on her features caused him to fall silent.

“My life belongs to me and no one else!” She her heels and fled to her bedroom in an attempt to distance herself from him. Sitting on the edge of her bed, her back slumped in utter defeat. Minji fell on the mattress and stared at the ceiling. It blurred when desperate tears welled up in her eyes. Her predicament drove her to the brink of insanity—coexisting with a demon was quite literally hell on earth. They were too different to get along, and he wasn’t willing to work together to solve their issue. Minji yearned for her old life, the one where she had no clue about the existence of supernatural beings.

Caught up in her thoughts, she never noticed the translucent cat sneaking up on the bed. The demon jumped on the mattress, making a strange sound similar to a meow but somewhat distorted. It snuggled up against her, lying down right next to her body. Minji rubbed her teary eyes and studied the unexpectedly friendly demon. She rolled on her side, embracing it, and the cat rewarded her with a soft purring, not minding her touch at all. Minji developed a soft spot for the little demon since it reminded her of her pet, which had died years ago. Part of her still missed her cat Rika and longed for the company of an animal.

“You’re a cute demon, aren’t you?” she whispered, the cat’s ears moving as it listened to her voice.

Minji stayed with the feline for the following hours, unable to get up and face Baëkhyun again. Considering how easily he had wrapped her around his finger, she was uncomfortable around him. He seemed to know exactly what he needed to say and do in o

Chapter 50: What a beautiful journey. I've read 3 of your stories and each one was amazing.
I didn't think that BaekHyun would someday suggest to have a family and children, but Minji was really able to change him and bring the good out of him. Her character is really soft and kind, she's patient and doesn't take his smugness and difficult personality to heart, she always understood him and enjoyed everything he did. And that was the reason they stayed together, because she saw the good in him and accepted him regardless of what he was or where he came from.

Chapter 28: What I really like about the girl in this story is that despite her fear and trauma she managed to find her own strength and get over her fear. In other stories they try to make the guy help her get over her fear and insecurity but that wasn't the case in this one, Bäekhyun didn't do much on that aspect, she was tired of being weak and didn't want to be a burden, practiced her magic and used it to help others. And in the end she was the only one to help BaekHyun and save her life, when all thought that she would only be the reason for him to die.

Chapter 9: I was fascinated when mochi transformed into cheetah, it was stunning to know that little creature would change to protect her. And seeing Baek's strong powers and his relentless personality when attacking the vampire made me think how would he react when he falls in love with her and she falls into danger! It would be hell on earth.

I really like the way you describe things, I could imagine the portal and see the flames of hell she got to see. Definitely not a pleasant sight.
