Description

Kyungsoo likes math, and he gladly tutors it. It's direct, always has a solution, and will tell it to him straight so that he can do the same for his tutees—help them solve their mathematical woes.

Except, he can't do the same with how the school sees him. Life complicates even more when he finds out that his friend is a bit out of this world and his new tutee is making him face problems he would rather leave unsolved.

Foreword

Hello people!

I wanted this story to be something short and comedic, like a 5-shot of crack and wack to help me through these Covid times. Long story short: that didn't happen but in a good way. Converse grew into something more serious and possibly triggering, so beware as this story quite intensely describes emotions and panic. The story explores a form of bullying that I feel is not talked about enough, and it doesn't hurt to create awareness for such unacceptable acts in the first place.

That being said, there is a bit of crack and wack (and swearing), and I hope you enjoy and/or get something out of reading Converse! This is my second story for public eyes, and so I hope you enjoy it as well!
Plagarism is not a form of enjoying or getting something out of my story. Do not plagarize or reproduce elsewhere without my explicit permission.

Drop upvotes, comments, and the like! I enjoy questions and feedback!

Disclaimer: The names, events, and places in this story are either used fictiously or made up by me. The "Qiao'uyi race" and its language is something I made up (Don't plagarize). Although, like with the sequence of events of any story, I'd like to think that somewhere in the universe there walks a people like the Qiao'uyi.
And no, I don't actually believe that any of the people's images I've used here are accurate representations of the person in real life.

Another Disclaimer: Any similarities to another story is entirely coincidental. I attest that I pulled the writing style, words, and plot events out of my own (figuratively speaking), and the universe likes playing its mischief of coincidentalism on humans. That's why please no plagarism as that is deliberate and uncreative.

Note: Although this story bases its cultural and social customs with Korean honorifics ('-shi,' 'hyung,' 'oppa' —those kinds of things), I modified it for the purpose of this story, because remember that this is a work of fiction. I KNOW that students in the same grade/class wouldn't use '-shi' with each other in real life. Also, I never said that the setting was in South Korea. I use English titles (Mx., Ms. Mr.) and even sprinkled in some Chinese titles and words too. The setting is meant to be vague and unspecific in order to simulate a universality of the events and experiences of bullying.

QIP - Questions I'll Preempt

Q: Is there romance?!

A: Sure? It's not the main driving point of the story, but there is some feel-good things written in, especially near the middle and end.

Q: Why did you pick the characters for their roles? Wouldn't Baekhyun's image be a better fit for an excitable best friend?

A: If enough people are curious, I'll make another Q&A. But for now, that question has too long of an answer for here xP

Q: Do I need to understand math to read this?

A: LOL

A2: Nah, but it might make certain parts more enjoyable. I've put explanations at the bottom of the chapter too though.

Q: Do you like math? Since you made a story with it?

A: LOLOL

A2: Hell no but hey that was how the idea formed and I worked around it so tak-ka-bal!

Q: What's the update schedule?

A: Likely pretty regular but maybe not always. Most likely weekly releases.

My other stories, and I don't know how to make fancy graphics so links it is:

Strategem (Complete) - A secret unit of the military must walk a labyrinth of the afterlife to redeem their souls, but only one of them can be redeemed. [EXO - Tao]

Converse (Complete) - Kyungsoo's a math tutor. There's always a solution, but what's the solution when the entire school scorns him and his new tutee is making it harder to keep that scorn a secret? [EXO - D.O x Kai]

The Ambiguity Of Selfishness (Ongoing) - Kim Minseok doesn't want to become a demon, especially if it comes with a spiteful demon guard and said demon guard forcing him to unpack all his guilt towards living and the dead. [EXO - Xiumin x Chen]

Messorem Corporum (Completed-M/TW) – Graduating and becoming a doctor consultant becomes a hell of a lot harder when Jongdae’s assigned caretaker is the center of all the town and school’s suddenly replaced body parts. [EXO/SM – Chen x Xiumin]

Chapter 17: I just realized that Soo cusses in a unqiue way lmbo. I don't even know how I missed that!

On a another note, Kyungsoo is totally crushing on Jongin. He baked him a friggin' cannoli.

I once bought my crush chocolates, a guitar pick and a scarf for his birthday lmao. Best way to show your feelings is by making that special someone something they can eat.

Chapter 16: A trip to Jongdae's real home would be spectacular! Sleepover would probably be the bomb for them lol.

And then come the a-holes that ruin the good vibe. Kyungsoo is too nice, tbh. But I understand why he chooses to not retaliate the way a normal person would, because a lot of the time bullying is done when other people are not looking, wgich makes it harder for the target of the bullying to do something about it, plus the bully usually has the power to make their target look like they're lying. Those kinds of bullies are the hardest to deal with.
Plus I get the feeling that Soo doesn't tell his friends the truth because he wants to protect them. Afterall, both Yuwon and Dae are the type that acts before thinking, if they got riled up with the truth, the consequences of the actions they take to protect Kyungsoo back would make it worse. Again, I hate the smart type of bullies.

Chapter 15: Ugh, that fluffy af ending on this chapter. >.< my heart just went all wonky at how they communicated so clearly! I'm a er for simple things like that.

Anyway, long hiatus, I know, but my weird work schedule got in the way of everything, (( it even threw my sleep cycle off way more than usual)), but that's life.

LayMin feels ^^

Chapter 13: Omg...Kim Jongin, you smooth, awkward mf'er ...he is trying to get Kyungsoo's attention (*squealing like an idiot!*)!!!

I bet Soo caught Jongin's attention long before the first time Zhang called Soo stay behind in class (1st chapter).
Dae knows Jongin is interested in his bff and he's trying to set them up ...same with Yuwon and Seulgi. Best wingmen ever!!!!! Or at least that is how I am feeling rn.

And honestly, you and me both, living vicariously through these stories (and tv shows -- i admit that bunged watch tv shows now).

Chapter 12: I let out the longest breath I've ever had.

This chapter has me feeling ...icky. Like a lump in my throat. I like Soo's honesty, but I feel a little bad for Jongin.

My head has deflated and my heart feels like its been stretched. Ugh, angst ...ish.

Chapter 9: Okay ...uhm...what the actual ?! That part just went from 0 to 200 and back to 0 in like one whole chapter.

But seriously I relate to Kyungsoo soooo much. I hate parties, loud noises, and I especially I hate it when people I don't know get in my bubble space!

This chapter was crazy!

Chapter 8: Oh gods no, the mention of the cliché party why??? Why?? Oh well...its not YA angst without it though. That is where all of the drama comes to an exploding point. I'm kinda dreading it, but I'm also curious as to what will go down.
As I said before I'm a glutton for angst. ^^
