Foreword
Two girls run, giggling, into the small equipment room that smells stale with the pungent reek of rubber mats, training bibs and balls for all games, illuminated with the orange glow of the late afternoon sun.
“You’re having fun, aren’t you?” the older asks, a wide smile on her lips.
The younger answers while catching her breath, “And sunbae said not to skive off.”
“We’re not skiving off. Just taking a short break,” the response is playful.
The tiny space that encloses them leaves little distance between the two bodies. The laughter and panting die out quickly to let the silence engulf them, such that the beat of their hearts begin to be audible.
When the distance between their bodies reduces to a zero, the distance between their faces gradually and cautiously close in as well; they find their lips together, their chests tight against each other, their fingers intertwined.
