A/N: Hi, all! Sorry for the long-ish wait for this update, but I’ve been a bit busy. I hope you guys enjoy this chapter! :)

Dr. Lee tried to be subtle. Really, she did try. However, she had never really been good at subtlety, especially when she was excited and eager for something.

Yesung was somewhat naïve and innocent, partly due to how his numerous hospital stays did not allow for much social experience, and partly due to his own gullible nature. However, even he couldn’t miss that Dr. Lee was behaving… quite oddly.

Dr. Lee briefly left the two men as she went to the counter to place their orders. Both Dr. Cho and Yesung tried to be gentlemanly and do it instead, but Dr. Lee insisted. Meaning that she practically forced the two men into seats facing each other, and she then sprinted off to the counter.

‘How odd indeed’, Yesung thought.

But then, he was distracted, as he noticed that the other doctor was staring at him again. His cheeks slightly reddened, and he tried to avoid Dr. Cho’s intense gaze, keeping his eyes focused on his utensils and just fiddling with his napkin.

Dr. Lee took her sweet time ordering drinks and food for the three of them (much to the annoyance of the other customers waiting behind her in the line). She tried to give her colleague and her patient as much time to themselves as she possibly could, hoping that they would start getting to know each other on their own. However, all of her strategizing was so far put to a waste when she returned to the table, carrying a tray with their drinks and food, only to find the two men quite silent, with no form of interaction whatsoever (unless you count Dr. Cho staring and Yesung avoiding the stare as “interaction”).

“How much do I owe you?” Dr. Cho asked as Dr. Lee placed a hot chocolate and a slice of blueberry cheesecake in front of him. He didn’t give any preferences before she ran off to the counter, but Dr. Lee knew him well enough to get what he would like.

Dr. Lee shook her head. “My treat.”

Both men tried to protest, but before they could do more than open their mouths, she shot them a deadly, warning look, cutting off all protest.

“Never try to argue with persistent, demanding, stubborn women,” Dr. Cho now said to Yesung with a small smirk. For the first time, his gaze at Yesung wasn’t intense. Instead, his eyes sparkled with mischief and teasing (teasing at the expense of his colleague, that is).

Yesung’s heart stuttered at the smirk. He would have been worried that something was suddenly wrong with his transplanted heart… if only he could acknowledge and focus on anything else apart from the other doctor’s smirk. Which he couldn’t.

It was a few moments before Yesung could escape the captivation brought on by the smirk. He shook his head, trying to clear it, and he said with a quiet chuckle, “Yes, do not argue with such women, especially if the woman is Dr. Lee.”

“Very funny,” Dr. Lee pretended to scoff as she handed a glass and a plate to Yesung now.

Yesung nodded to her in gratitude. Only to sigh in resignation when he realized that she had gotten him a lemonade… and a veggie pastel. Ugh.

“Not so fun to dine out with your cardiologist, is it?” Dr. Cho snickered a bit, seeing the look on Yesung’s face. He had just met his colleague’s patient, but somehow, he could easily sense and read Yesung’s emotions and thoughts.

Yesung nodded in reply to Dr. Cho. He couldn’t help but pout at the drink and food in front of him. Not to be rude and ungrateful, but he really would have rather had a nice cup of freshly brewed coffee and maybe a slice of cake. But no. Since he was eating out with his physician, he got stuck with bitter lemonade and, worse, a pastry stuffed with vegetables.

“I’m really in the mood for some coffee and maybe some dark chocolate cake,” Yesung sighed again, looking longingly at the counter, where delicious sweets and treats were displayed.

“You yourself just said a while ago that it’s useless to argue with a woman like me,” Dr. Lee pointed out. She was stubborn, especially when it came to the well-being of her patients. “You know how I feel about you consuming caffeine and sweets. I’d prefer if you focus on eating healthy food.”

And to emphasize her point, she pushed the plate with the veggie pastel closer to Yesung.

“You said that caffeine and sweets are fine as long as they’re taken in moderation!” Yesung protested. When he was still living with a defective heart, there were so many kinds of drinks and food that he couldn’t consume. Of course, he knew that he still had to be careful even if he had a new heart now, but he had hoped that at least some of the limitations would be eased or even removed.

But no, not when your cardiologist was Dr. Lee.

“Well, yes,” Dr. Lee admitted grudgingly. “But I still prefer that you steer clear from them altogether. I spent so long and done so much to keep you alive, you know, and I’m not risking all that just for you to fulfill your caffeine and sweet cravings.”

“Again, don’t argue with argue her,” Dr. Cho told Yesung as the patient opened his mouth again to undoubtedly protest against the diet restrictions. Dr. Cho’s eyes bore intensely into Yesung’s eyes again, before the intensity look became mischievous once more. He continued with an equally mischievous smirk, “Just drink coffee and eat sweets when she’s not around to stop you.”

Dr. Lee had been nodding in satisfaction at the start of Dr. Cho’s speech, glad her colleague was backing her up. But her satisfaction turned into exasperation at the last part of what he said. Really?!

“I’d appreciate it if you don’t encourage my patient to go against his doctor’s orders!” she scowled at her colleague.

“Who me?” Dr. Cho said, his eyes widening innocently. A falsely innocent expression. “I would never!” Then, he shot a wink at Yesung.

And Yesung’s heart stuttered once more.

Seriously, what was it with Dr. Cho affecting his heart so much?

Yesung couldn’t help but feel that this other doctor was bad for his heart. He really needed to control his strong reactions to Dr. Cho.

As the three of them dug into their drinks and food, Dr. Lee watched the two men carefully. How Kyuhyun would occasionally stare at Yesung, and then jump back into their casual small talk as though he hadn’t done any intense staring at all. How Yesung would frequently gl

Chapter 25: I normally don’t read fics unless they’re finished so I wouldn’t have started this if I didn’t notice it’s incomplete. I’m glad I did though, because this is an amazing story that’s had me on the edge of my seat! What a rollercoaster! Your writing style is very easy to read and flows nicely. It works really well for the thriller genre. Ahh I love “the gang” so much. For now I’m going to say kyusung live happily together, Siwon gets put in jail for life, and everyone else gets to have fun together. Much 💙💙
