Away With Me

The next day it was Hyejoo who woke up first, thankful that the departing time for the day wasn't early. The blonde must've been exhausted because she didn't stir even when Hyejoo accidentally closed her drawer too hard. Chaewon looked peaceful laying on her side, the covers only leaving her head visible. She watched Chaewon's body slowly rise and fall with every breath she took and was temporarily overcome by the need to push back some strands of hair out of her face. She didn't act on that feeling though. Instead, she finished picking out her things and headed for the shower.

By the time she came out Chaewon was already awake, still laying in bed scrolling through her phone. “Good morning.” her voice was soft and gentle, and Hyejoo thought that if she set those words as her alarm she'd never wake up grumpy. “Morning” she replied with a small smile. Chaewon sat up in bed, new energy coursing through her. “I'm excited for today.” she said, a smile spreading on her face. Hyejoo picked up the schedule laying on the dresser and read “Says here we’re going to a small park across the lake where we will participate in various activities.” she paused to look at Chaewon, who was still smiling and nodding her head. “Sounds kinda vague, don't you think?” Hyejoo questioned, raising an eyebrow. “Isn't that the fun of it?” Chaewon answered cheerfully. “We have no idea what's waiting for us when we get there.” Hyejoo hummed. “I guess you're right.” Chaewon stepped out of bed, her teal pineapple pajamas causing Hyejoo to suppress a chuckle, and proceeded to go get ready.

The bus ride to the lake wasn't as long as they expected it to be, Hyejoo looked out the window (she had successfully managed to take the seat from Chaewon that day) and saw the lake, a deep blue green surrounded by mountains covered in thick greenery. The group filed on to the dock, where the guides ushered them to get in line to wait for one of the small passenger boats. A few boats came and went, dropping off people and taking more making the line move along smoothly. “I thought they'd be bigger...” Hyejoo voiced. “...the boats I mean.” Chaewon looked at the boats that seemed to be able to roughly fit eight people. “I guess not enough people come here to merit a whole ferry.” Hyejoo fiddled with the hem of her shirt and lowered her gaze. “No it's just...feeling so close to the water like that. It makes me nervous.”

Hyejoo would be lying if she said she wasn't a little scared. All she could think of was the boat somehow sinking in the middle of the massive lake. Chaewon rested a hand on Hyejoo’s back and suddenly those thoughts were replaced with tv static. “It's okay, if the boat sinks I'll be right there sinking with you.” “That's not exactly reassuring, Chae.” The blonde’s eyes lit up for a second at the use of the nickname and she giggled, patting Hyejoo’s back lightly. “We’ll be okay.” she ended up replying.

The line went by quickly as they neared the boat they were supposed to board. Hyejoo tried her best to hide it but Chaewon noticed how she gripped her seat, knuckles going white. Chaewon scooted over, letting the side of her arm touch the other girl’s, at an attempt to comfort her. Hyejoo's grip loosened and Chaewon felt her slightly lean against her, the taller girl avoiding her gaze, and Chaewon didn't know if she was pretending not to notice the small action.

Before they knew it, the boat docked at the edge of a small park somewhere on the other side of the lake. The park was small and quaint, few families were gathered under different gazebos spread out across the place. There was a different dock further off for those who were interested in fishing, and a sign that read gift shop pointing to a cabin-like building a little ways off.

The guides made sure everyone followed them towards a bigger gazebo with a sign that read ‘Reserved: Dream Tropic Tours’ on one of the columns. As everyone set their stuff down, some employees walked up and called for everyone’s attention. “Good afternoon everyone and welcome! On behalf of Dream Tropic Tours we've arranged some activities that you can participate in free of cost, if not interested you can visit our gift shop or take your time exploring the different things our park has to offer. We’ll be bringing some snacks for you later in the afternoon so don't forget to meet back here for them! We hope you enjoy your time here and if you have any questions you can find us in the office by the gift shop.”

As usual, the guides gave everyone ground rules and let them know about the activities they could participate in before they let everyone head off their own ways. Chaewon looked at Hyejoo and pursed her lips “Um...so, fishing?” Hyejoo shrugged. “I guess?” They walked side by side to the dock they had seen before and were handed two “fishing rods” for the activity. It seemed that by fishing rod they meant a pole with a string and a cup of corn you could use as bait. It didn't even have a way to reel things in, so if you caught anything, all you could do was pull and hope for the best.

Chaewon and Hyejoo sat at the edge of the dock and threw their hooks in the water half-heartedly. “You think we’ll actually catch something?” Chaewon asked, genuinely. Hyejoo couldn't help but snort at the smaller girl’s hope. “No I really don't think we'll catch anything, Chae.” The blonde pouted playfully. “I like that we're on a nickname basis now, by the way.” “Me too, although I can't take the credit since you started it.” Hyejoo saw Chaewon’s ears turn red, which confirmed that she was aware of when she used the nickname the day before.

They spent a while pulling out and re-casting their line, never expecting anything to come from it, so they were more focused on their conversation. Suddenly, the people at the dock started cheering, which caught the girls’ attention. As they looked back they saw a man who had reeled in an actual fish, granted he had brought his own real fishing rod with him. People started lining up to take a picture holding the fish and Chaewon jumped at the chance, almost dropping her makeshift fishing rod into the water. “Hyejoo! Let's take a picture!” She said, offering the taller girl a hand to get up. Hyejoo took her hand and stood beside her, exchanging glances between her and the fish. “Um, sure..?” Chaewon clapped cheerfully and jogged back to the gazebo to get her camera while Hyejoo stood in line until she got back.

Nearing the front, Chaewon appeared beside her, holding her camera with a grin on her face. “I'm not holding the fish.” Hyejoo said, wearing a blank expression. “Ah, a big baby is what you are.” Chaewon teased. This time it was Hyejoo who pouted, and Chaewon couldn't help but give into it. As their turn approached she asked someone to take the picture for them. The man handed Chaewon the fish, which she held up by the fishing line as it wasn't moving anymore. H
