If Yujin was given the chance, she would rather be working part-time than studying geometry in high school.

She hates math, but she hates studying in general anyway.

Yujin was the type of student who excels more in practical subjects like physical education and home economics rather than the educational subjects like English and maths.

The school counselor told her that was alright though, not everyone has the same capacity. There really are people better in other styles of learning.

But Yujin needed to pass high school. Its her second year and its a crucial year for them before senior year. She never realised it, but universities tend to look at every. single. year in high school. She doesn’t know why but she doesn’t have a choice.

Yujin talked with Wonyoung, her best friend, about this, “then why don’t you get a tutor?”

Yujin just stared at the younger girl, “huh?”

Wonyoung couldn’t help but roll her eyes, “a tutor. You know, someone who would do the job of teachers better?”

Yujin didn’t mean to but she laughed, she saw Wonyoung grinning as well so maybe she meant it as a joke.

“But who would even tutor me? Everyone at school is busy at this time of the year.” Finals was approaching, which means everyone is cramming their studies while finishing up their projects.

The two were silenced for a while before Wonyoung had an idea, “do you remember Minjoo-unnie?”

Yujin blushed before she nodded her head, how could she forget the said girl? She has been crushing on Minjoo since they first met during Yujin’s freshman orientation.

The freshmen were grouped together and seniors were assigned per group to show them around the campus. Minjoo was the one assigned to her team, and she has been smitten ever since then.

“But she’s in university now. Would she even have time? Do you even keep contact with her?”

Wonyoung laughed at the older girl, “of course I do. I need her help making sure I don’t mess up in the student council.”

Yujin didn’t say anything and this served as a cue for Wonyoung to send the college girl a message.

To say Yujin wasn’t nervous would be the biggest lie she would ever say. She feels like she would combust any time soon. And the cause of it all is sitting right next to her, explaining how the hell Pluto is no longer considered a planet.

She tried her best not to stare at Minjoo, but the girl has recently dyed her hair to pink so it isn’t very helpful. Yujin would also stare into space from time to time in an effort not to be so obvious.

“Yujin? Are you okay?”

Yujin snapped out of her thoughts when she felt Minjoo shake her slightly. She saw the older girl was looking at her in concern, “am I going too fast? I’ll run by it again if you don’t understand it.”

Minjoo didn’t even get to finish her sentence before Yujin started shaking her head, “no! That’s not it, unnie. I— just can’t focus right now.”

Minjoo nodded her head in understanding, knowing they have been studying for a few hours now, “alright. We should pack it up for the day then. We’ll continue this tomorrow, you should rest. It won’t matter if you study all of this if you get too tired to actually have the motivation to study.”

The older girl smiled at Yujin before fixing her things and standing up, “come on. Let’s go eat at the cafe at the corner of the street, my treat.”

Yujin couldn’t help but smile and she quickly fixed her things and followed Minjoo out of the library.

Yujin was nervous all over again. Its been weeks since she got Minjoo to tutor her and she already took her final exams. She’s unusually nervous because she doesn’t want to disappoint her tutor. Not when she made sure Yujin got everything she was teaching.

Yujin saw she didn’t need to worry though, she passed all her exams with flying colours! Her nerves changed into excitement. Excitement to show Minjoo her scores later this afternoon when they meet at the cafe.

The taller girl didn’t have to wait too long though. Because when she got to the cafe, Minjoo was already there reading her lessons for a class she has tomorrow morning.

Yujin excitedly went to Minjoo’s table and immediately passed the older girl her scoresheet. She didn’t notice how the older girl nearly got up from her seat from the surprise.

Minjoo was reading through the younger girl’s scoresheet and slowly started to smile, “I told you you can do it. See! All you need to do is study at your own pace!”

Yujin grinned at the older girl, she didn’t tell her the only reason she paid attention was because of the tutor.

But she suddenly felt sad, this means the tutoring sessions are over. She won’t have the reason to meet up with the college girl, especially now that vacation is starting.

Minjoo noticed the sudden lack of attention of the younger girl, she has an idea why though. She smiled before tapping the table right in front of Yujin, “hey! You’re in holidays starting tomorrow right? Do you want to go out someday? You know, do something other than studying.”

Minjoo finished off laughing while Yujin couldn’t help but realise her heart started beating faster and she couldn’t stop the smile gracing her face.
