The two girls had just entered their first year of high school. While Wheein was studying in the library, she was distracted by a girl sitting with her friend a couple of tables in front of her. The girl had dyed grey hair and looked a little bit older than Wheein. Something about her was really captivating and it made Wheein’s heart flutter. Maybe it was the way her nose scrunched up when she laughed at her friend, or maybe it was how her arm and hand flexed when writing. The young girl was confused about why she was feeling a certain way for a stranger.

While staring, the older girl looked up and made eye contact with the younger girl. Embarrassed, Wheein looked down quickly and acted as though she was reading her book with intense concentration. After a little bit, she looked up again but was met with an empty table. For some reason, she felt disappointed. Deciding she shouldn’t dwell too much on the situation, Wheein went back to her studies but it was short-lived when her best friend came over and sat by her.

“Hey Wheein-ah, you will not believe who I got paired up with in Chemistry,” Hyejin exclaimed and her friend just gave a slight nod to continue.

“This really hot junior named Moon Byulyi! I asked around and apparently, she’s the heartbreaker of this school.” Wheein wasn’t really interested in gossip so she slightly tuned out her friend.

“-but she’s so attractive! She has grey hair and these cute dimples below her eyes.” The description finally got Wheein’s attention and she looked at her friend with wide eyes.

“Anyways, even though she might be a heartbreaker, I’m gonna do everything in my power to become friends with her,” the girl finally finished and Wheein wasn’t sure how to respond. Instead, she just nodded at her friend’s determination and went back to studying.

A couple of weeks later, Hyejin was finally getting through in becoming friends with Byulyi. One day, when Wheein was studying outside, she witnessed the two approaching her and she began to freak out on the inside.

“Wheein! I want to introduce you to my lab partner, Byulyi unnie,” Hyejin announced and the grey-haired girl next to her bowed. Wheein got up, a bit clumsily, and bowed to Byulyi.

“Hey, I see you at the library a lot,” the oldest girl remarked and Wheein slightly blushed at knowing the girl recognized her.

“Yes, that’s me.” The two smiled at each other and Hyejin couldn’t help but notice.

“Well, I was wondering if you wanted to get lunch with us Wheein-ah,” Hyejin asked and Wheein tore her eyes away from the older women. She couldn’t say no.

At lunch, the atmosphere was a bit awkward. Byulyi wanted to break the tension so she began asking questions about the two.

“So how long have you two known each other?”

“We’ve basically known each other since we were born. Our dads have been friends since they were kids,” Hyejin answered and Wheein nodded in agreement.

“Are- are you two together?” Byulyi asked hesitantly.

“No!” They exclaimed at the same time and Byulyi just grinned at how in-sync they were.

“Sorry for assuming. Just find it hard to believe cute girls like you would be single,” the grey-haired girl smirked and the younger girls giggled at the comment.

The rest of the lunch wasn’t as awkward and the three were able to talk comfortably. Wheein had to admit that not only was the older girl attractive but had a bright and charming personality. The two also had similar interests and Byulyi promised to teach Wheein about photography. The grey-haired girl was also quite similar to Hyejin in personality, both flirtatious yet humble and sweet. Overall, the three had a perfect dynamic and over time they became a trio.

All three women were in shock and they stared at each other for a good minute processing who was in front of them. After finally comprehending what was happening everyone broke out in smiles and began hugging each other.

Wheein observed the girl more closely, and although her iconic grey hair was gone, her face remained the same, just a bit more mature. The doctor’s nose still crinkled when she smiled and the dimples below her eyes were still cute.

“Byulyi unnie, we haven’t seen you in so long!” Hyejin exclaimed while hugging the doctor. The two hugged a bit too long and they separated a bit awkwardly.

“Wow, I almost didn’t recognize you guys. You both look so mature,” Byulyi commented looking over each of them in awe.

“We look mature? You’re the one who ended up as a doctor,” the soldier remarked and the older woman smirked at the two.

“I might have ended up as a doctor, but you both look more beautiful than ever,” the doctor teased and the two friends rolled their eyes, while also slightly blushing.

“Gosh, you’re still greasy unnie,” Wheein groaned and earned herself a chuckle from the doctor.

“I guess I still am. Well, what brings you both here?” Byulyi asked and looked back at her clipboard to read Wheein’s file. Wheein sat back on the table and had to take a bit to remember why she was there.

“Oh, um, I have these pretty bad scars on my hips and I’m afraid they’re getting infected,” the blonde tried to explain. Byulyi went into full doctor mode and asked if she could look at them. Wheein hesitantly pulled up her shirt and the doctor went to work, looking at the wound carefully. Hyejin watched the older woman for a little bit before looking up at her friend. Noticing her discomfort, the brunette gave her best friend a reassuring smile and Wheein smiled back, trying to calm down.

“Well they aren’t necessarily infected, just severely irritated. May I ask how you got it?” Wheein froze and Byulyi could sense the tenseness.

“You don’t have to tell me everything, just what exactly injured you,” the doctor reassured the woman and Wheein and had to take a moment to figure out what to say.

“Glass was the main cause of it. Broken glass dug into my hips and it took a long time before I could treat them so they ended up getting infected at first but then eventually healed,” Wheein recalled and Byulyi nodded her head while writing down some notes.

“I see. The best I can do is give you some better ointment and I’ll properly bandage you.  Does that sound okay?” The soldier nodded and Byulyi left the room to retrieve the ointment. After the doctor left, Hyejin had a concerned face and noticed that Wheein refused to look toward her.

“Glass?” The brunette wondered out loud and the blonde just remained silent not wanting to explain right now. Instead, she just gave her friend apologetic eyes and Hyejin knew that one day her friend would tell her.

A minute later, Byulyi came back and put the ointment on Wheein and properly bandaged the girl.

“Alright, this should help you for now. I’ll prescribe you this ointment and you can just pick it up at the pharmacy. I’ll also recommend some special bandages that won’t irritate your scars as bad,” the doctor instructed while writing something on a note pad. She ripped the paper and handed it to the soldier and Wheein thanked her.

“You don’t have to thank me, Whee, it’s my job.” The past nickname brought memories into Wheein’s mind.

The three continued to hang out all the time. It came to the point where it was weird if all three were not together and everyone admired their friendship. Although Wheein was hesitant to be with her potential crush and her best friend (who also had a crush), she couldn’t help but enjoy hanging out with the older girl.

One day Hyejin couldn’t hang out due to musical practice but Wheein and Byulyi wanted to still do something. Wheein was pretty used to Hyejin also being there so being with the older girl alone made Wheein nervous.

“Hey, you wanna come over?” The older girl asked and she tried hard not to laugh at Wheein almost choking on her drink.

“Um, like- like your hou-house unnie?” The younger girl stuttered out and Byulyi let out a chuckle and nodded.

“Yeah, my house. I was thinking we could draw together,” Byulyi suggested and Wheein just nodded without saying anything.

The two ended up at the Moon Mansion. The younger girl was in absolute awe by how fancy the house was. Wheein wasn’t able to truly comprehend the grand scale of it since she was so used to seeing the simple older girl at school.

“Wo-wow unnie, your house is REALLY big,” the younger girl said looking around.

“Yeah, my parents are both doctors so I guess I’ve always lived a luxurious life,” Byulyi explained.

“However, I don’t bring people here much because people tend to use me to try and live their own luxurious life,” the older girl said bitterly and Wheein gave her an apologetic smile.
