The morning after the two best friends had their talk, the two were eating breakfast in comfortable silence. Afterward, when Hyejin went to go shower and change, Wheein realized she hadn’t saved Yongsun’s number into her phone. The soldier realized she should probably text the mother and ask when and where Sunhee wanted her art lesson. After finding it on the couch she entered the number into her phone and texted the older lady.

Wheein: Hey unnie this is Wheein. I was wondering when you wanted to have Sunhee’s art lesson? Also, should I buy some supplies?

After a couple of minutes, Wheein’s phone vibrated.

Yongsun: Good morning Wheein! Is 1 okay? I have to meet a client at that time, so I was wondering if you could also watch her. And you don’t have to bring anything, Sunhee has an art room you can use.

Wheein: Okay sounds good and I’d love to unnie!

Yongsun: Alright! See you soon :)

Wheein was about to put down her phone but a call came in stopping her actions. At first, Wheein thought the woman upstairs was calling her, but seeing the caller ID, her eyes widened and she answered a bit hesitantly.

“JUNG WHEEIN, WHY DID YOU NOT TELL ME YOU ARRIVED BACK IN KOREA?!” the voice on the other line screamed and Wheein pulled the phone slightly away from her ear, flinching a little bit.

“I’m so sorry, mom, I got caught up with a lot of things,” Wheein apologized.

“I had to find out you were back from Hyejin’s mom! Do you know how embarrassing it is to not know that your own daughter is back home? ” The woman chastised her daughter and Wheein couldn’t help but feel terrible.

“I swear I didn’t mean to mom, it was an accident,” Wheein’s voice was very small like a child and the older woman on the phone sighed and felt bad for yelling.

“I’m sorry, Wheein. It’s just I haven’t seen you in so long, and yet you’re back and I had no idea.” The soldier realized she should have told her mother she was coming back first, but at the time she could only think of calling her best friend. Wheein knew that if her mother saw her scars the way Hyejin did, things would not be okay. Her mother cared for her very much but there were times when she was almost too protective.

“Don’t apologize, mom, I deserve it. I’m staying with Hyejin right now, but I promise to go visit Jeonju as soon as possible. Maybe I can come this weekend?”

“Yes! Please come this weekend. I’ll start cleaning now and get ingredients for your favorite food. You still like Dakbal, right?” Wheein couldn’t help but smile at her mother’s words.

“Of course I do. I love everything you make, but please don’t make a fuss, I don’t want you spending too much on me,” the blonde tried to reason. Although her mother ended up getting a better job when Wheein was away and started to live comfortably, Wheein was still cautious when it came to money.

“Don’t worry, Wheein-ah. I promise I won’t spend that much.” The mother tried to soothe her daughter’s worries. Even though Wheein still felt apprehensive, she knew there was no point in fighting it.

“Alright. I’ll be sure to come home this weekend. Maybe Hyejin will also join me.”

“Yes, try and bring Hyejinie. Her mother misses her a lot too. By the way, are you two finally together?” Wheein’s mother asked innocently causing the blonde to almost gag.

“Mom! I already told you plenty of times we are not like that! She’s my sister!” Wheein groaned into the phone and the older woman laughed.

“I’m just messing with you, honey. However, I do expect to see some grandchildren-” the mother began but her daughter did not want to hear the rest.

“Mom! We are not talking about this right now.” Her mother laughed again. She loved teasing her daughter any chance she could.

“Okay fine. I’m gonna go now and start cleaning. Let me know when you leave Seoul”

“Alright, I’ll let you know. Bye, mom, I love you.”

“I love you too honey, bye,” Wheein’s mother said and hung up the phone.

Hyejin came out of her room, towel drying her hair.

“Hey, was that your mom?” The brunette questioned.

“Yeah, so much has happened the past two days I completely forgot to call her. I plan to go to Jeonju this weekend, do you want to come? Our moms miss us,” Wheein notified her friend.

“Yeah, I need to go this weekend anyways,” Hyejin stopped for a second to turn away from the blonde, “his anniversary is coming up.” Wheein turned to her friend concerned, knowing the brunette was referencing her father’s death. Before Wheein could approach her friend, Hyejin turned back around with a sad smile on her face and Wheein gave a sympathetic smile.

“I’m sorry I wasn’t there-” Wheein wanted to apologize but she stopped when the brunette held a hand up.

“Stop apologizing, Wheein-ah. It’s in the past,” Hyejin whispered and Wheein nodded. There was a moment of awkward silence between the pair before Hyejin realized the time.

“Oh shoot, I forgot to tell you but my company needs me to come in today,” Hyejin rushed to get her stuff before heading toward the door, “I should be back by dinner, will you be okay?” The brunette asked.

“Yeah, I’m giving Sunhee an art lesson at 1 and then babysitting her since Yongsun unnie also has to work,” Wheein informed.

“Okay great, well let me know what you want to do for dinner. I gotta go, bye!” Hyejin announced and then quickly walked out the door.

After Hyejin left, Wheein noticed she still had a lot of time before Sunhee’s art lesson. The soldier thought now would be a good time to actually work out, so she changed into some active gear and headed outside. Hyejin’s apartment building sat on top of a big hill so Wheein decided to run up and down the steep streets.

A couple of rounds in, the soldier started getting pretty tired since the last time she worked out was before her accident, but she didn’t want to give up. She ran up and down the hill a couple more times, but the pain in her hip started to get in the way. Lifting her shirt a little, she realized the bandages Hyejin put the night before were coming undone, and her scars were looking pretty bad again.

Sighing a bit in frustration, Wheein decided to head back to Hyejin’s apartment to take care of her wound. When she got to the bathroom, the soldier took off her clothes to look more closely and she couldn’t help but dwell on how bad her scars looked. The patches of skin were still red and inflamed and she knew that if they weren’t taken care of more properly they would get infected. The blonde told herself she should probably see a doctor as soon as possible. Wheein went and showered up first before putting on medicine and the last of the bandages on her body. The soldier picked up her phone and decided to text her friend.

Wheein: Hey, can you pick up some more bandaids on your way home, I just ran out.

Hyejin: Yeah of course. Is everything okay?

Wheein: They just look really bad right now. I think I need to see a doctor soon.

Hyejin: Alright we can visit a doctor tomorrow.

Wheein: Sounds good, thanks Hyejinie.

Hyejin: That’s what best friends are for <3

Wheein beamed at her friend’s messages and then noticed that it w
