There’s something else Wheein realized as she sat on the couch in the dark.

Even though the world can be unfair there is little to nothing someone can do to truly change it.

She realized that all those times the world has treated her unfairly, she’s only gotten angry.

She would push people away and suffer in silence.

But what can anger really do?

She noticed that being consumed by anger made her lose focus on what she still had.

Her mother. Hyejin. Byulyi. Yongsun and Sunhee.

All of them are still here and yet there’s still a barrier between her and them.

Wheein thought that perhaps she should tear down that barrier rather than suffer alone.

Maybe if she lifted her burdens, the world wouldn’t seem so unfair.

By the time Wheein finally felt ready to fall asleep, she noticed it was already nearing 6 A.M. Looking down at the older woman who was still hugging her waist, she felt bad wanting to leave but her back was starting to hurt from sitting.

Carefully, she got out of the doctor’s grip and covered her with a blanket before heading back to her and Yongsun’s room. Slipping under the covers, she couldn’t help but notice the slight frown on the sleeping woman’s face. Wheein gently held the woman close, giving a small kiss to her temple.

Yongsun briefly woke up from the contact and snuggled closer, the frown disappearing.

“Don’t leave me again,” the older woman mumbled sleepily and Wheein grinned before giving another kiss.

“I won’t.”

As their warmth enveloped each other they drifted back to sleep.

Waking up was difficult since the soldier didn’t get much sleep but she was kind of used to it since it brought her back to her military days. When she opened her eyes she noticed she was left alone on the bed but the smell of breakfast invaded her thoughts before anything else.

Quickly getting up, she found Byulyi still passed out on the couch but next to her sat Sunhee.

“Oh hey, kid! Are you feeling any better?” The little girl nodded her head a bit.

“Just a little,” Sunhee replied weakly. The blonde went to feel the girl’s forehead and she noticed she was still pretty warm.

“Byul unnie will try and get you better medicine later,” Wheein reassured and the girl nodded in response.

“Sunhee, breakfast is ready,” Yongsun called out. The mother peeked into the living room and when she saw the soldier sitting there she smiled. “Good morning, Wheein.”

“Morning unnie!” The little girl got up and followed her mother into the kitchen and the blonde was going to follow suit but then looked over at the woman still on the couch.

“Unnie, wake up, breakfast is ready.” Byulyi’s eyebrows scrunched in response.

“Hyejinie?” The doctor muttered with eyes still closed and the younger woman frowned.

“No unnie, it’s me, Wheein.” Byulyi slowly opened her eyes and when she saw the soldier sadly looking at her she let out a heavy sigh.

“So it wasn’t a dream…” Wheein shook her head and the doctor gave a sad smile before getting up.

Breakfast was interesting, to say the least. Everyone was eating in relative silence as Wheein, her mother, and Yongsun kept glancing at Byulyi who kept her head down while Sunhee happily ate her pancakes in oblivion.

It seemed as though the doctor kept her head down in shame but in reality not only was she embarrassed but she was also hungover. She took a couple of bites but when she began to feel sick she quickly excused herself and ran to the bathroom.

The sound of Byulyi throwing up was heard by everyone at the table and they realized they were no longer hungry. Wheein winced at the continuous noise and got up to get some water and medicine.

“I’ll deal with her,” the soldier sighed and everyone at the table just looked at their uneaten food not knowing what to do.

Entering, she found the older woman laying next to the toilet, breathing heavily. The blonde placed the water and medicine next to her and sat down on the floor. When the doctor felt sick again, Wheein held her hair and patted her back.

When it seemed like Byulyi was feeling somewhat better, she began to start cleaning herself up as the soldier remained on the floor.

“Thanks, Whee. I’m sorry you have to keep taking care of me.”

“You don’t have to say sorry, unnie. You’re always taking care of me and everyone else.”

“It’s my job.”

“Well, you’re very good at it.” The two looked at each other and let out a small chuckle. “Since you’re so good, do you mind getting that medicine for Sunhee.”

“Already ordered the prescription yesterday. I’ll pick it up later,” the doctor noted and Wheein gave a smile in appreciation.

After Byulyi was done cleaning up she looked at the soldier and remembered something.

“Have you changed your bandages today?” The older woman asked in a warning tone and Wheein shook her head like a child that had just gotten caught. The doctor gestured for the blonde to get up and when she did she began bandaging her up in silence.

The soldier would usually feel really uncomfortable by someone looking at her scars, but Byulyi made her feel so comfortable and safe. It felt nice not feeling ashamed of her wounds.

After getting patched up and giving Byulyi a new shirt that didn’t smell like vomit, they went back into the kitchen to find some food still on the table but everyone was cleaning up their plates.

“I’m sorry for ruining breakfast,” the doctor said while bowing her head in shame again.

“You’re fine Byul, just don’t drink that much again,” the eldest scolded and Byulyi nodded her head.

After everyone helped clean up, except for Sunhee who was still feeling ill, Wheein noticed she had an unread text.

Hyejin: hey. I know we were supposed to visit childhood places today, but is it okay if it’s just us?

Wheein: I’m sure it should be okay since Sunhee is still sick. I’ll let them know

Hyejin: okay thanks

Wheein: how are you though? Are you okay?

Hyejin: no not really… how is she?

Wheein: not the best either

Hyejin: I figured… when you’re ready just head to my house.

Wheein: okay see you later.

The soldier put down her phone and went into her and Yongsun’s room where the older woman was about to take a shower. Yongsun was only wearing a towel and when Wheein noticed she quickly turned away.

“So-sorry unnie!” The blonde stammered out as she stared at the corner of the room. She heard a light laugh and then felt arms circle her waist.

“Don’t apologize. In fact, do you want to join?” The older woman purred in Wheein’s ear before giving a light kiss to it causing a shiver to go down Wheein’s spine.

“Oh uh- um I- uh I- um-” The soldier felt like her brain was short-circuiting and Yongsun couldn’t help but laugh again.

“I’m kidding, Wheein.” the black-haired woman chuckled before pulling away. “Unless you want to…” she whispered mainly to herself but Wheein still heard.

“As much as I would love to, I have to meet Hyejin. I hope it’s okay but she wants a day for just me and her,” the blonde said apologetically as she turned around.

“That’s completely okay. I want to stay with Sunhee anyways,” Yongsun reassured and Wheein smiled at her before walking close to her.

“I’ll see you later tonight. Maybe next time I could join you,” the soldier teased before pecking the woman’s lips. The older woman let out a frustrated sigh before walking into the bathroom.

“One day, you’re gonna kill me Jung Wheein.” The younger woman chuckled before quickly changing and heading out.

Byulyi was also ready to leave to get medicine. When the two saw each other Wheein gave an apologetic smile.

“Sorry unnie, but Hyejin asked me to be with her for the day.”

“It’s okay… I’ll go get my stuff after you both leave,” the doctor said sadly and the soldier patted her on the shoulder before they both left the house and went their separate ways.

Wheein naturally entered Hyejin’s home since she used to do it so much when she was younger. The moment she did she heard her friend and her mother quietly arguing in another room.

“What do you mean you got into a fight?” The older woman’s voice could be heard and the blonde frowned realizing what they were talking about.

“We just did, mom. She’ll stay with Wheein for now.”

“That girl has been in love with you since forever and you’re just going to let her go?”

“There’s more to it mom! I love her too but I just don’t think now is the right time.”

“Then when will it be the right time?” It got silent after
