The Intersect
Description
Jung Wheein, a normal 25-year-old who lives in the Gangnam, Seoul. On weekdays, she is working in dead end job at the COEX Mall as the head of the Nerd Herd -- an IT crew who is in charge of tech support in appliances section of the mall's department store. Every day is a normal day for Jung Wheein -- fixing hardwares, installing anti-virus, and the likes -- until one day she received an e-mail from her bestfriend she used to study with at Seoul National University containing a software called The Intersect.
Foreword
It is another lazy Saturday morning for Jung Wheein, like her most days are: Work - Play computer games - Watch movies - Eat - Sleep - Repeat.
She rustled in bed for 5 minutes before she managed to get herself up and check her work calendar on her phone.
February 28, 2020 - Day Off
Wheein closed her eyes again to help her get back to sleep, today is no work day afterall. Eventually she dozed of for a few minutes until her phone buzzed.
From: Moon Byulyi
Message: Open you computer now! This is urgent.
Wheein was confused for some seconds. First off, her best friend from university just emailed her - someone she had not contacted for 5 years, because well she got kicked out of university. Second, she had a new number how did Byul contacted her out of nowhere.
'How on earth did she find my number. I had mine changed since the day I got kicked out of university and my supposed bestfriend betrayed me' Wheein thought while she was hesitating on getting up and opening her laptop for that urgent email.
'This must be a prank. Byul's phone probably got stolen or something'
Still undecided on what to do on that email, Wheein just browsed her social media accounts to pass through time and forget what just happened. In the middle of her own thoughts, her phone buzzed again.
From: Moon Byulyi
Message: This is not a prank.
Annoyed, Wheein dialed the number contacting her.
"Hey if you want to tell me something important, you can call first!" Wheein shouted. But to her surprise the call redirected her to voice mail.
Wheein was more then confused now; perplexed and angry to be more precise. Without much thinking, she stood up and opened her computer. She checked the first email from her feed and saw an email from Byul. She brushed off the thought on how Byul got her email now.
Email: [email protected]
Subject: [CONFIDENTIAL] OPEN THIS WHEN YOU ARE ALONE
Body:
Hello Wheein. Things has gotten rough between us because of what happened 10 years ago. I cannot tell you details on why I decided to do that to you, but I promise you it's all for the better good. What I can do for now is to instruct you the following:
- Make sure no one is in the same room as you are. AGAIN NO OTHER PERSON.
- Download the file attached in this email
- Write down this number: XXX-XXX-XXXX
- Delete this email
- Install the file
Please trust me for this. Hope we can meet again soon.
Regards,
Moon Byulyi
Wheein, despite the bad history, knows deep inside that maybe she can still trust her old friend. She followed her instructions carefully. Starting from ensuring no one is in the room with her.
'Good thing I'm here alone and Hyoyeon unnie is on a vacation with her girlfriend.'
She navigated to the attached file below the email. File name: The Intersect. Wheein downloaded it as Byul instructed.
'For all it's worth' Wheein thought while she's downloading the file in the email.
The downloading finished and with a deep breath, Wheein clicked the file.
