Unexpected Turn of Events

You're My Sun

I’m so excited!

Yongsun couldn’t help but feel excited. It’s their first day after all.

I wonder how Byul’s gonna react. She thought happily. She prepares herself and heads to the dining table where she sees her father on the table reading something on his phone and her mother is searching for something in the fridge.

“Oh hi honey! Come sit down.” Yongsun pulls the chair and sits properly. Her mother hands her a plate of bacon and eggs. She then proceeds to put a glass of strawberry juice next to her plate.

“Thanks mom!” She said happily before stuffing her face. Her father on the other hand looked a bit tense.

Does he know already? I’m kinda nervous.

The whole time she’s eating, she didn’t look away from her father. His father is a clever man, he notices his daughter is eyeing him the whole time she’s eating, but he decides to ignore her, waiting for her to break the silence first.

Yongsun can only smile. She knew exactly well that her father knew about it and waited for her father to talk as well, eyes not leaving his figure. His DNA does run in her genes.

“What?” His father finally gives up. Yongsun smirks knowing fully she’s won.

“Nothing.” She said playfully while taking another bite to her food.

“Princess, we need to talk.” Princess. Only her father calls her that.

“Hmm?” She put down her fork, knowing very well what his father was going to say.

“So, you got yourself a girlfriend?"

“Yes I have.”

“You have a picture of her?”

“No, she just confessed yesterday night. This is our first day.”

“I see. Listen.” Yongsun gulped, afraid of his father's response. “I want you to leave her, is what I want to say, but I’m giving her a chance. If she ever breaks your heart like Eric, I want you to leave her.” His father said firmly. Yongsun can only stare at him, dumbfounded by his response.

“Wait, so you’re okay with it father?” His father nods slightly and opens his arms. Yongsun quickly got down and approached him, hugging him tightly.

“Thank you! I know father. Trust me, she’s really nice. I’ll invite her one day when you have the time.” Yongsun said happily, not expecting his father's response. He hugs her back and smiles.

“Thank you! I’m really happy!” She said while jumping excitedly in her place.

“Alright alright princess. Now finish your breakfast, I’ll drive you to school today. It’s your special day after all.” God she didn’t think her morning would be so perfect. She happily finished her food and left with her father. Inside the car, his father can hear her daughter humming, showing how happy she is. His father can only smile watching her daughter's childish behaviour.

It’s weird, something’s missing, but what?

Byul is deep in her thoughts. She felt peaceful for the day, is it because of her status with Yongsun now? No, well, she’s happy about it, but something feels off, but she can’t tell what it is. She can’t help but feel anxious yet excited on meeting Yongsun today. It’s their first day together after all. She fidgets on her seat, trying to distract her mind somewhere else but fails when she sees Yongsun enter the classroom. Their eyes met and they couldn’t help but smile at each other. Yongsun really, really wanted to hug her, Byul as well, but they decided to wait until the break period.

Nothing happened in class, nothing exciting, but nothing annoying either. Usually, she couldn’t get any peace in the morning, but today was different. No whisper, no bad talk, no bullies. What happened? It’s just a bit weird for Byul, but she decided to clear the thoughts and return her focus to the class. Once in a while, she would look at Yongsun and observe the pretty girl.

She’s so pretty.’ She thought.

“...yi...Byulyi...Moon Byulyi!”

She turns her head immediately to the source. Irene is glaring at her.

“Well?” Byul was shocked. She didn’t hear her talking at all.

“Umm, sorry miss, I didn’t hear you.” Irene sighs.

“Please read page 59.” Byulyi proceeds to do so and Yongsun couldn’t help but laugh at her girlfriend's behaviour.

The cafeteria was quite crowded, but Wheein managed to find themselves a seat. Yongsun and Hyejin soon join her, bringing their lunch. They started talking and having a lot of fun. Yongsun is quite fond of them, they’re like babies in high schooler form.

“So, where’s Byul unnie?”

“She’s at the counter I think.” She looks at the counter and sees Byul there, waiting to pay for her food.

“I see her. She knows we’re here, right?”

“Don’t worry, she’ll find us.” Hyejin said as she took a bite of kimchi and stuffed with rice. Yongsun returned her attention to the younger girls and started eating her lunch.

“So, how did you two know Byul?”

“Hmm? Well, we have known each other since elementary school. It’s quite funny actually, but Wheein falls down and accidentally scrapes her knees. Byul unnie just happened to be around and she gave her a bandage and a lollipop. Wheein stop crying and since then, we’re inseparable. Like a trio, you know.”

“More like three idiots.” Byul added. She sits next to Yongsun and continues. “You’re not gonna believe what they’ve gotten me into! Once, Hyejin asked me to buy her a can of fanta, so I did. But I didn’t know she’s gonna spray it on some boys! After that, the two of us were punished.”

“Yeah, we had to stay in the detention room for like, one hour. Though I tried to escape and I had to stay there for another hour.” Yongsun laughs at their story, not believing how childish Hyejin used to be.

“But those boys bullied my Wheepup! I won’t let them do as they pleased!” Hyejin said, defending herself.

“It’s okay Hyejin, I’m sure you have a good reason behind it.”

“Yeah, and the next day, she bought some plastic bugs and put it inside their locker, making her the number one suspect and she’s in detention again. She never changes.” Wheein added.

“Hey! You should be on my side!” Wheein sticks her tongue out, earning a groan from her best friend. After that, they just talk, catching up on what they missed in the past few days. Wheein then noticed something different from the two.

“Say, are you two dating?” Byul choked on her food and Yongsun looked away with her reddened face. Their reaction shows it all. Hyejin got up from her seat.

“Alright, you’ll have to treat me to some juice!” Hyejin drags Byul to the vending machine, leaving Yongsun and Wheein at the table.

“They’re cute, aren’t they?” Wheein can only smile.

“Yongsun unnie, I know you love her, but let’s make one thing clear, okay? If you hurt her or break her heart, I’ll make you regret it for the rest of your life.” Her eyes turned dark, her voice was intimidating. Yongsun shivers at the thought of Wheein beating her . She takes a deep breath before answering.

“I promise I won’t.” She said with a reassuring smile.

“Good!” Wheein's mood changes back into her usual cheerful self, making Yongsun wonder if the girl had bipolar or something. The two had another round of small talk while waiting for the other girls to return. Hyejin finally returns with some drinks.

“Byul unnie treat us today!” She said as she put a can of juice in front of them respectively. Byul didn’t really mind though. She’s just happy seeing her best friends (and girlfriend) getting along. Something then clicked on her mind, realizing what was missing for the whole day.

//

“Argh it’s finally done! I’m tired.” Yongsun said as she stretched out her arms and legs, tired from sitting almost all day. She looks at Byul and realizes the girl is in her own world. “What’s wrong?” Byul shakes her head lightly.

“Mmm, it’s nothing. I think I’m gonna visit someone before going home, you want to come?”

“I love to but I can’t, I promise my mom to accompany her shopping today, sorry.”

“Nah, it’s okay. Let’s go.” Byul carried her bag and held Yongsun's hand, the both headed out to the school gates and they went their separate ways. Byul visited a supermarket and looked around. She buys three apples, two bananas, and two oranges.

‘I should really save up my money.’ She thought before calling a cab and headed to her destination.

//

I’m always amazed at how big this house is.

She couldn’t help but stare at the big house in front of her eyes. She looked around, searching for people and fortunately, she found one.

“Hello sir, I’m here to visit Sunmi.”

“Oh you’re her friend from before.” He immediately recognizes her and sends a warm smile towards her. “Please come in.” He said while leading their path.

Inside, a girl (probably one of her maids) leads her into her room. Byul sees Sunmi lying on her bed. She looked so weak. Her face is red from the heat and she’s shivering. Byul couldn’t help but feel sorry for her. She 'was' her friend after all, it kinda hurt her seeing the annoying but cheerful girl lying weakly on her bed.

“How is she?” Byul asked one of her maids.

“Her condition is getting better, but she needs to rest a lot. She’s sweating and vomiting a lot.”

“Is it just fever?” The maid nodded.

“Yes, her immune system is weak. It’s not rare to see her ill, but sometimes it’s a bit worrying. The doctor said it’s not serious though, she’ll be fine in three to five days.” Byul nodded and hoped her friend would get well soon. It’s kinda sad seeing her in this state.

“I brought some fruits for her.” She handed the plastic bag containing fruits. The maid bows and says thanks on behalf of Sunmi and Byul said her goodbyes, though the girl is sleeping so she probably doesn't know she visited.

She left and her thoughts were filled with Sunmi. She decided to go somewhere to distract herself.

Maybe visiting mom’s clinic would be good? It’s been a while since the last time I visited, I guess. It’s only five o’clock, I should give her a call first.

Byul searched for her phone then she remembered she didn’t bring it today. She sighs.

Well, I guess I’ll just surprise her.

She called a cab and headed to her mother’s clinic. Once she arrived, she entered the place.

“Hi mom-” She froze at the sight in front of her. “What the…What are you doing here?” The girl also froze seeing Byul, not expecting her presence.

“Oh? You two know each other? You never told me about her Byul.” Junghwa takes a bandage from her cupboard and when she turns around, her daughter is already bolted, nowhere to be seen. The girl chases after Byul, running with all her might.

“Wait Byul!” Byul didn’t care, she just kept on running until she felt tired. She stopped on her tracks, panting. The girl also stopped, standing right behind her.

“Byul, please, wait. Can we talk?” Byul clenched her fist, feeling anger inside her.

“Seriously! Just, leave me alone Krys. I don’t want to hear anything from you.”

“Byul please! I’m sorry…” The girl pleaded. Byul felt bad but she’s more sad than angry, remembering how they used to be so close but now, those are just memories. “Please, let me explain everything.”

Byul exhaled loudly, feeling her anger has subsided, so she decided to listen.

“Fine, let’s talk.” Krystal nodded and the two returned to the clinic.

Chapter 14: You’re good. I see that English isn’t your first language so, the grammar errors can slide. Some parts of the story feel rushed in a way that you don’t allow your characters to develop properly.

The story is good. Good job!

Chapter 8: Hi, please continue the story. Though the whole fiasco between nayeon vs byul isn't really my cup of tea (i cant really take fight scenes well especially if its my bias, but hey it's my preference as a reader, hope you dont take it seriously tho lol), i find it entertaining and im genuinely interested on whats happening next. I assume English isn't your first language since I've encountered few *minor* grammatical mistakes (like only two lol) but a bit of rereading on a certain part you're not confident on would really help you but its fine, we readers dont mind those. Im writing this comment to encourage you, as an author, to never stop on what you're doing ESPECIALLY if you truly enjoy it. If you discontinue it, it's fine because you have your reasons. :) trust yourself in the whole process x
