Foreword

Liar…

She hears the word being spoken out.

Frail form bending over the edge, she stared at her own reflection peering back at her. Pale and white as a ghost. Liar…

“What are you doing over there?!” A shrill voice came from behind, jolting her out of her senses.

She screamed from the sudden arms that were around her waist. The lake waters beneath had vanished. Dangling three storeys high from the window of the mansion, she felt her head spinning at the view.

“Kaa-san…” She gasped, suddenly unable to breathe.

“Have I not said before that playing by the windows is dangerous?!” The lady’s shrill voice pierced through the still night air.

“T-There was water, Kaa-san…” The child tried to speak.

Her mother was quick to retaliate. The expression on the lady’s face livid, “There is no water…”

“Reflection in the waters…” The child continued and the lady tightened her arms around the child’s waist.

“There was no water.” The lady snapped in an irritable tone, eyes cold and hard, “Do you know what happens to the children who like telling lies? They burn.”

Liar…

No, there was water…
