Morning phone call

Irene is waiting patiently for Seulgi to answer her call. It is her second attempt but still the bear can’t be reached. Finally, the call connected but no one talking from other side

Irene: Good morning

Seulgi: Hmm… *sleepy voice*

Irene: You haven’t up yet?

Seulgi: Who is this? ~

Irene: KANG SEULGI, YOU BETTER WAKE UP NOW!!!

Seulgi: Omo honey, I’m…sorry. I-I just wake up

Irene: I know it idiot. Now is 6:40 already but you still sleeping. I told you to set your alarm but you never listen!

Seulgi: Hyun I’m sorry. I forgot to set alarm last night. I’m sorry, okay? Don’t mad

Irene: You better get ready quickly. Don’t stuck at traffic like yesterday then you complain at me

Seulgi: Okay baby, I will see you on lunch, okay?

Irene: Alright, go get ready to work. Don’t forget your breakfast

Seulgi: Yes, say hi to umma

Irene: I will tell her later. Love you my stupid bear

Irene proceeds to dress up with office attire after morning call with her girlfriend. Even they are dating, Seulgi still stay at her shared apartment with Wendy. She convinced Seulgi to move in to her house but the bear resist because she don’t want to leave Wendy alone. In the end, they make a promise that Seulgi will move in with her after they get married. Seulgi still sleepover at her house on weekend or occasionally visit them for dinner when she is free.

Mrs. Kang is the happiest person when both of them announce their relationship a week after the confession at the park. She love Irene even more and now Irene address her as umma. Bae family also meets with Seulgi few months later. They welcome Seulgi and her mother warmly as their family member. Irene parents told her that Mrs. Kang is not her maid anymore but her family. She still give allowance to Mrs. Kang and they always go out together either to shop grocery or hangouts for dinner

“Good morning umma” Irene greet Mrs. Kang at dining table

“Good morning sweetie. You look grumpy today. What’s wrong? Is it Seulgi again?”

Irene sighs “Yes umma. She is really hard to wake up in the morning. I have to shout almost every day. No wonder Wendy very thankful after I date her”

Mrs. Kang chuckle “I know how it feels like. I used to deal with her morning antic for years. Seulgi never change. Morning is always the hardest time for her. When she still kid, I need to carry her to bathroom because she can’t even open her eyes”

“She is still your baby Seulgi even she grown up now” both of them cackle

“You’re right. I still feel like dreaming when both of you told me you’re dating. At least she found a good woman, someone that can take care of her like I did and I can trust you to always be there for her”

“I still can’t replace you umma. You still the best for her and unnie”

“You are the best yourself” Mrs. Kang smile warmly “Do you go to her office later?”

“Yeah, I will go to meet my client”

“Can you bring food for them? If can, I will pack some for Seulgi, Seungwan, Eunji and Hayoung”

Irene wake up in the middle of night. She noticed the space beside her is empty. Seulgi suppose to sleep with her but she is not around. She sits up and looks at clock on bedside table. It is 12 midnight

“Where is Seulgi?” she mumbled

She get out of her room and go downstairs. Light at living room is turned off but sound of TV can be heard. Seulgi is there lying on the couch while watching live football match. She startles seeing a familiar figure walk to her direction

“Hyun, are you awake?” Seulgi sit up waiting for her girlfriend

“Emm” Irene climbs on the couch then throw herself to Seulgi embrace

“Can’t sleep?”

“Yes because you not sleep with me” Irene pout her lips cutely

“I told you that I want to watch this match tonight” Seulgi wrapped her arms around Irene body because she know her embrace is Irene comfort place

“You can watch it in our room”

“I don’t want to disturb you sleep. You continue sleeping. I will carry you upstairs later”

Irene shake her head “I don’t want to sleep anymore”

“Let watch this together if you can’t sleep”

They are watching TV silently. Seulgi really focus on that match while Irene is boring since she not interested in football. Suddenly she free herself from Seulgi embrace

“Why?” Seulgi asked

“I’m boring Seulgi-ah”

“I don’t know how to entertain you” Seulgi chuckle

Irene glare at her girlfriend annoyingly “I want to cook. Do you want anything?”

Seulgi gasped “Are you sure you want to eat this late?”

“What’s wrong with eating at this time?”

“You will gain weight”

“Oh, if I gain weight you don’t want me anymore? You want someone with slim figure, y and…!@#$%^&&*” before Irene could end her nonsense talk, Seulgi quickly shut her with kiss

“Stop talking nonsense. I never said I want to replace you”

“Who know if one day you don’t want me anymore just because I not as pretty as now”

“Never in my dream to replace you, I just wanted you in my life” Seulgi cupped Irene face then she squish Irene cheek playfully

“You play around again!” Irene whine when Seulgi non-stop squishing her cheeks

Seulgi laugh “I just want to cheer you up. You look grumpy”

“It’s your fault”

“I’m sorry” the bear hugging her girlfriend and kiss her crown “I don’t mean it that way you know. It’s true that we tend to gain weight if we eat something heavy at time like this but once in a while doesn’t hurt. You can go to gym with me though”

“I know it, health freak” Irene pinch Seulgi side “I will cook something for myself if you don’t want to join”

“Yah, I want to eat too”

“Not scare if you gain weight?” Irene said sarcastically

“We can get fat together, I don’t mind” Seulgi receive flying cushion from fuming Irene “Baby, I’m sorry. I’m just kidding. I will eat anything you make for us”

“You better not wasting food”

“Alright ma’am” Irene said before she left to kitchen

“Fuhh, what a scary girlfriend of mine” Seulgi said

“I hear you!” Irene yells from the kitchen. Seulgi can’t help but cackle at her own carelessness but she know Irene is not angry

“Unnie, what is our plan for Chuseok this year?” Hayoung asking her unnies

“Last year we’re at Hayoung place. We should change location this year” said Eunji

“If we’re changing place, let go to my hometown. Next year we go to Eunji’s or Joohyun’s” Seulgi suggest

“Not bad” Eunji nods her head in agreement

“What do you think Hyun? Do you agree?” Seulgi looking at Joohyun

“I don’t have problem”

“Cool, since unnie also agree we will go to our hometown this year” Wendy chirped

“I can’t wait to go to your place unnie. You two should show me the places that you always go before. It sounds really fun” Hayoung looked very excited

“No problem. You love challenging place so you will have fun” Wendy and Seulgi exchange mischievous grin

“What kind of places that make you all excited?” Irene asked

Wendy and Seulgi laughing their off while Hayoung still with excited look. Eunji now know the place they talk about, at least she can imagine mud flat, river, paddy field and somewhere around Mrs. Kang house

“I told you two lots of times; don’t influence Hayoung with your weird antics. She already a weirdo and you two keep adding the portion into her” Eunji sighs heavily

“Ayy unnie, I’m not a weirdo” Hayoung pouting and seeking support from the mischievous duo

“If you not a weirdo, you won’t eat and drink ramyeon sup with straw even spoon is available beside you”

“That is because these unnie challenge me to do so. Don’t you see I record a video for that scene? They promise to treat me food for a week if I can eat ramyeon with straw instead of chopstick” Hayoung pointed at Seulgi and Wendy who act innocent

“All of you are weirdo” Eunji rolled her eyes “You know what more crazy than that unnie? She do that when both of us at sauna”

Irene also laughing at Hayoung story “Hayoungie, did they really treat you after that?”

“Yes, they treat me at every restaurant I want without complain”

“We’re very generous to her” Seulgi patting Hayoung head

“But it not only our idea, Bomi unnie is mastermind. She used to challenge Namjoo to do the same thing” Wendy said

“She is president of weirdo in country while Namjoo never say no to food” Eunji comments and they laugh again

“Let’s go to the mall after this. I want to buy gift for Sooyeon unnie and her baby” Irene stated

“Okay” Seulgi answered

Wendy clear “Dude, is Soojung also go home this time?”

“Why? Excited to see her?” Seulgi asking annoyingly

“Chill dude, I mean we will have to see her if we visit them”

“I hope she is not around”

“Are you two still holding grudge?” Eunji frown

Seulgi and Wendy look at each other “It’s her who hold grudge on us. She and her girlfriend start it first”

“Hey, I thought you and Soojung have clean separation” Irene interrupt

Hayoung chuckle “You don’t have idea unnie. I call it a big war between them”

“Seriously?” Irene and Eunji a bit shock

“Her girlfriend starts it first so we just go along. She told Soojung that I and Seungwan try to bully her when first time she comes to our village. Soojung really upset because she trusts that midget. She never talks to Seungwan after that, not to mention with me” Seulgi said

“Aigooo, it so childish” Eunji comments

“True”

“Did umma know it?”

“Nope, we act like nothing happen when we are together. We try to avoid her if we know that she is at home when we visit umma. If umma bring us to visit them, we will make excuse. Sometimes we go fishing, catch loach at paddy field, chasing dogs or cats or just walk around the village so we so we don’t have to see her” Wendy said

Irene feel guilty towards the cousins but she really want to visit Mrs. Jung family as she promised her before “If both of you can’t go with me to visit them, I will go with umma and Eunji also Hayoung”

“Is it okay?” Seulgi looking at her girlfriend apologetically

“Yes, at least both of you don’t have to feel tense. We go there to have fun so we shouldn’t ruin it”

“Unnie is right. We can go with umma while you two just stay at home” Eunji added

“Thank you for consideration” Wendy and Seulgi smile happily to their girlfriend

“I want to stay at home with unnie too” Hayoung chirped

“Of course you will stay with us” they smirk

“And don’t create chaos at home” Irene warned them

“No worry baby, we will behave” Seulgi wiggle her eyebrows

“If you guys done eating, we should go to mall now” Irene said

“Someone excited to shopping I see”

“Well” Irene and Eunji high five

At shopping mall, they go to baby shop to buy gift for Mrs. Jung granddaughter. Eunji decide to help Irene with the gift so she drag Wendy to follow them. Eunji, Wendy and Hayoung at the other side of the shop while Seulgi and Irene at opposite side. Seulgi is lazily waiting for Irene to pick baby clothes. She just watching her girlfriend choosing cute design and color for the baby but suddenly she smiles

“Baby”

“Yup” Irene attention still on baby outfit

“You looked pretty when choosing baby stuff”

Irene chuckle then she tilt her head to her side “Why suddenly praising me? Do you boring already?”

“No, I’m sincere now. You’re really pretty and cute while staring at these outfits. You look like a future mommy”

“Ayy Kang Seulgi” Irene blushing then playfully jab Seulgi tummy

“Do you like kids?” they move to other display

“Yeah, I like them so much” Irene said excitedly

“How many kids do you want?”

“Are you planning a family suddenly?”

Seulgi shrugged her shoulder “I just curious but it’s not bad if we start planning now”

Irene touched by Seulgi words “Aww my Kang Seulgi, am I include in your future plan?”

Seulgi nods her head “Of course, you’re future mommy for my kiddo”

“Seulgi-ah, you’re sweet” Irene give quick hug to Seulgi “3 kids is enough” she answering Seulgi question

“Why not 4 so everyone have pair”

“Alright, we will plans again next time”

Seulgi giggle “Are you done?”

“Yes”

“Let’s go to the counter. I will pay it”

“Honey, it’s okay. I will pay for it” Irene said

“I insist. Maybe I can’t visit unnie and her baby so consider this as our gift for them”

“You mean you want to have shares too?”

After make payment, they left the shop and walk to their friend who waiting for them outside

They arrive at the village after 2 hours driving from Seoul. Mrs. Kang & Irene sleep soundly leaving Seulgi drive alone. Seulgi stop her car at the porch after Hayoung open the gate for them. Eunji and Hayoung ride in Wendy car since they can’t fit in just one car

“We arrived already?” Mrs. Kang wake up suddenly

“Yes umma”

They hop out of the car while Irene still sleeping without noticed they are arrive at destination. Seulgi not bother to wake her girlfriend up since she know Irene is tired after trial yesterday. She decide to just carry Irene inside

“Why you not wake her up?” Mrs. Kang asked

“Let her sleep. I will carry her inside. She looked really tired”

“Okay, I will unlock the door so you can bring her in quickly”

Seulgi open Irene’s door slowly so she not disturb the sleeping beauty. She unbuckled Irene seatbelt then carefully lifts the smaller girl to her arm. Wendy assists her to make sure Irene head not bump on the car. Seulgi mouthing thank you to her then she walk inside the car

“Is unnie all right?” Hayoung asked

“Yeah, she just tired nothing to worry about. Let’s bring our stuff inside” said Wendy

Irene open her eyes slowly follow with yawn then she stretch her body. She is deadly tired since yesterday. Last night she arrive at home late because she want to finish her work before holiday. After that she sleep late since she need to pack her things

Suddenly her eyes shot open when she noticed that she is inside unfamiliar room. Last thing she remember is she inside the car with Seulgi and Mrs. Kang

“KANG SEULGI” she sit up and scream

“Yes baby, what’s wrong? Do you have bad dream?” Seulgi run to the bed and sit beside the panic Irene

“Where are we?”

“We’re at umma house now”

Irene eyes widened “Really?”

“Why you not wake me up when we arrive earlier?”

“You look tired so I don’t want to disturb you. I just carry you inside”

“It embarrassing you knows. Everyone saw you carry me, aigooo” Irene suddenly turns shy

“Not only have them but our neighbor also witnessed it” Seulgi lie

Irene gasped “Yah!” she hit Seulgi shoulder

Seulgi laughing seeing Irene shocked face “I just kidding honey. Our family knows that you’re tired. We understand it” she hugging Irene to comfort her

“You’re so bad. Why do you like to tease me?” Irene pouting

“You looked cute when you’re shock” Seulgi patting Irene back softly

“Sometimes I think that I date a 10 years old Seulgi”

“When I am 10 years old, my name is not Seulgi. If you mention Kang Seulgi that time, no one know it” Seulgi said

“Are you changing your name?”

“No, my nickname is popular than my real name”

“Ooh, what is you popular nickname?”

“Kang Ddeulgi” Seulgi said proudly

“Yeah, I am very popular in our neighborhood and it keep raising from time to time”

“Don’t scold me if I tell you”

“Sure” Irene give reassurance smile

“I good at making good things and bad things in this area”

“I want to know the bad things. Now tell me” Irene impatient to hear the weird antics of her girlfriend when she is still kid

Seulgi laugh before she start talking again “I…steal fruits, ringing their doorbell for no reason, chasing dogs and cats, and much more”

Irene can’t help but shook her head in disbelieve “You’re really something. Who else do that with you?”

“Seungwan and our best friend, Moonbyul”

“Aigooo you guys. I guess umma scold you a lot back then”

“Of course, she punish me a lot of times but it never work”

“But you’re a good person now. Judging from who you are now, it’s hard to believe that you’re very naughty before” Irene praising Seulgi while pinch her cheek

Mrs. Kang clear as she can smell the naughty agenda “Don’t influence Hayoung with your naughty antics. If I hear any complain, both of you will sleep outside”

“This is first and last warning. You two are grown up now. Remember that you have your girlfriends here. Don’t make them embarrass. I still can’t forget the chaos last time” Seulgi and Wendy giggle while Mrs. Kang shoot glare to them

“What they did last time umma?” Eunji asked

“They play soccer at my vegetable farm. Who in right mind will do it there? We have big soccer field in this village but these two idiots choose my precious farm instead. They totally don’t have brain cells since birth”

Irene, Eunji and Hayoung can’t help but laugh heartily “Umma, they said there are lot of fun play to play” Hayoung said

“Don’t listen to them. Every place is fun for them even in this house. I still can’t forget they break my flower pot”

“Umma, you seriously still holding grudge?” Seulgi hold her laughter

“I not holding grudge but I still remember that day”

“Umma really have good memory” said Wendy

“I’m better than both of you” they laugh again at Mrs. Kang remarks

After spend 5 days at hometown, they return to Seoul. They have great holiday together and have so much fun. Seulgi and Wendy never stop being chaotic as usual and keep influencing Hayoung with their naughtiness. Irene and Eunji for the first time witnessing Mrs. Kang chasing the duo with broom around the house after both of them make a mess when playing gun shooting at the yard while everyone go out to shop grocery. Luckily Hayoung join Eunji, Irene and Mrs. Kang go to the store so she is not in the scene. Seulgi older sister, Kang Yoona also goes back to their house for holiday but she arrives next day. This time she come with her girlfriend, Seohyun that make the house more lively. Mrs. Kang very happy seeing the kids gather at home and she grateful that her daughters grown up become a good person even they still make her headache with their antics

“Kang Seulgi” Irene voice cut Seulgi train of thought. She’s zoning out since God know when

“Ughh yes Hyun, do you want to sleep already?” Seulgi asked

“Not yet” Irene shook her head “You’re spacing out. What’s wrong? Is something bothering you?”

“Yeah, I do have something in my mind lately. To be exact, after I meet with Uncle Sangmin at hometown”

Seulgi, Wendy and Hayoung stroll around the neighborhood in the evening. They walk passed by a small stall not really far from their house when someone call Seulgi name

“Hi uncle, long time no see” Seulgi greet happily

“Sit here kids and order something to drink”

“Okay uncle” the girls immediately summon the waiter and order their drink

“Uncle, how are you these days?” Wendy look at the man after waiter leave them

“I’m good. Everyone is doing well now. The kids are busy with school and job”

“It’s been a while since we meet. I hope we can visit each other this holiday”

“I hope so. Seulgi, how is your mother? I heard she stay at Seoul now” Sangmin looking at Seulgi

“Yes uncle, she stays at my girlfriend house now”

Sangmin chuckle “Wow, you have girlfriend now?”

“Yes” Seulgi answer shyly

“But why she not stays with you?”

“Umma work as her maid before. After I date with her boss, they become housemate”

“So your girlfriend is your umma boss?”

“Yes uncle”

“Wow, you’re very lucky, huh? She must be pretty that she makes you fall in love. Usually you’re not easy to like someone more than friend” Sangmin teasing Seulgi

“She is really pretty” Seulgi give 2 thumbs up to his uncle

“Seulgi is a bit coward at first but she is lucky that she not miss this chance” Wendy said then she and Hayoung smirk teasing Seulgi

“Aigooo, Seulgi that I know is not a coward” Sangmin said

“I’m not a coward now because I have beautiful girlfriend” Seulgi speak proudly

“Glad to hear that” Sangmin paused for a while then he continue “I have something to tell you”

“What is it?”

“It’s about your father” Sangmin stated firmly

“My father?” Seulgi jaw dropped. Wendy and Hayoung also show similar reaction upon hearing the mention of Seulgi father

“Yes, I met him again like 2 months ago”

“Wait uncle, is he still alive?” Seulgi puzzled

“Yes, he still lives healthily now. He just returned from overseas and…he is looking for your family” Sangmin said firmly

Seulgi punch the table with her fist “Huhh, why he comes back? We don’t need him though. There is no way I will let him return to my family. He don’t deserve us”

“That’s what I told him. He really want to meet your mother”

“I won’t let him see umma. He needs to go through me if he wants to meet her” Seulgi clench her teeth. They never see Seulgi this angry before and she looked really scary

“Please protect your mother at any cost. If he hurt all of you, please quickly let me know. I will hunt him down”

“Okay uncle, I will inform you”

“Uncle, how he look like?” Wendy curiously asked

“He resembles Seulgi. It’s easy to recognize him. He is male version of Seulgi. Only his lips and ears that same as Yoong”

Wendy study Seulgi features and imagining Mr. Kang face “Noted”

“Where did you last meet him?” Seulgi asked

“I meet him at Incheon”

“Okay”

[End of flashback]

Irene listen carefully to what Seulgi just told her and she try to understand Seulgi feeling. She wrapped her arms around Seulgi waist and embraces her side

“What will you do now? Will you tell umma?” Irene asked softly

Seulgi shake her head “Nope, I won’t let her know. I don’t want her to get hurt”

“I understand. Calm down okay? If one day you meet him, please tell him nicely. He abandoned your family but he still your father. You’re his flesh and blood. Hear him out. Don’t make fuss quickly” Irene tapping Seulgi back tenderly to sooth her

“I don’t know if I can face him alone. Unnie is not here so his choice is me”

“You can bring me or Wendy if you can’t go alone. Don’t worry, I always available for you”

“Thank you Hyun” Seulgi kissed Irene forehead

“Let sleep, we are working tomorrow” they lie down and Irene pull the blanket for them

“Goodnight baby” Irene tighten her hug on her girlfriend
