"Aigoo, my overprotective sister." She cooed while ruffling my hair. "If I didn't know better and about you being overprotective of me, I'd say you were jealous." she teased and I laughed.
"Crazy. I don't like that guy. Do you like him?" I asked and she shrugged. 
"I had a crush on him."
"Had?"
"Past tense, Jess. Meaning it's over." she explained and I nodded.

I reached for her hand and squeezed it gently. "Be careful of him. I don't like him, yes. But also when I saw him earlier with expression full of terror, I realized something. He's not like any other human. I never heard a heartbeat. Not even the slightest sound." she looked at me and smiled.

"Jess, I'm not afraid." she said and once again ruffled my hair.

I looked at her and she is looking at me, her face is just an inch or two away from mine.

"Why?" was all I could say, all I could ask. Her eyes are like black holes, pulling all of me until I am lost inside. She chuckled and what she said gave me a generous amount of relief. As if a huge boulder had just been lifted off of me. As if the oceans have calmed down. As if the earthquakes have stopped.
