A Familiar Stranger

The sun was out and its rays were streaming through the blinds and onto their bed. Ji Hyo stirs and snuggles up to the man beside him, inhaling his familiar scent. And though it was spring again, the bed didn't feel as warm as she thought it would be. Staring up at his face, she studies his features; his eyebrows slighlty coming together in a frown even in his sleep. She was used to the little frown he always has on his forehead. It was either mild or prominent. But two years ago was when he had the frown the worst. It was when he had come up to her apartment right after Kwang Soo left. Ji Hyo was not crying and her eyes were empty and glazed. His perfect eyebrows met on the middle of his forehead at the sight of her. She seemed fine; she talked, she laughed and she joked. But after a few hours of her disturbing indiferrence, she grabbed a bottle of soju from the fridge and drank it like it was as bland as a glass of water. After her second bottle was when she stumbled to her bed and laid down on the side of the bed where her husband used to lay. And after tucking her in, Dong Wook watched her from the door only to realize that the woman who showed no signs of any emotion, was now breaking down piece by piece amongst the softness of the blankets. He hurriedly sprints to her side and wipes her tears away. "It's okay." He said repeatedly, almost like a mantra as he listened to Ji Hyo sob in between her words, finally detailing the cause of her failed marriage. And right then and there, he had decided to help her mend her broken heart and possibly even be the reason for its repair. It was the night he had decided that he wanted to want Song Ji Hyo again.

Ji Hyo brings her hand up to his face, but he opens his eyes before she could. She waited for a few seconds, just in case he wanted to greet her good morning but instead, Dong Wook smiles and gets up right away. "I think I should make breakfast this time." He says as he heads for the door. To be honest, Dong Wook rarely cooks. He was even worst than Ji Hyo; this left her with no choice but to take on the cooking for both of them.

"Thanks." She mutters, groaning internally. She had wanted to stay in bed for a bit but since he was already making breakfast, she might as well get ready for the day while hoping he won't burn the kitchen down.

Patting her face dry with a towel, she pulls a sweater over her head. Ji Hyo couldn't help but smile at the sound of the food sizzling in the kitchen. And amongst the busy sounds of his cooking, she could hear him hum a song. At this, Ji Hyo frowns immediately. She despised hearing anyone hum. It somehow makes her sad and nostalgic, and she didn't like that.

"Hey." She greets loudly, making sure he hears her to make the humming stop. "What's cooking?"

Dong Wook looks back at her, shooing her to the dining table. "

I should really edit the earlier chapters, shouldn't I? Every time I read them, I can't help but think that I need to edit them to make the flow of the words better, especially for the new readers. I'd hate it if they stop reading half-way through because the first few chapters are iffy. Lol

Chapter 58: "And though it was spring again, the bed didn't feel as warm as she thought it would be." I like how this sentence perfectly encapsulates how she really feels.

Didn't realize I'm already at the end of the story! I will wait for updates ^^ Fighting!

Chapter 58: I guess Dong Wook was there to pick up the pieces after the dissolution of the marriage.

I really enjoyed the way you wrote about Ji Hyo waking up to the sight of a sleeping Dong Wook. It invoked a sense of warmth in the scene's sweetness, and I can feel Ji Hyo's affection for him. Yet, reading further, one gets the impression that Dong Wook is nothing but a replacement. A rebound love. And I find that somewhat sad, and I feel myself pitying the man and rooting for him. NOOooo! LOL.

But I digress. I think deep inside Ji Hyo knows this. Knows that she is treating him as a replacement and is trying to compensate for it. She definitely is trying to convince herself about the rice. To me, the bibimbap scene is an analogy of their relationship. She wants Dong Wook's bibimbap to be like Kwang Soo's. She wants it to be good, she convinces herself it is as good. She wants Dong Wook to be like Kwang Soo. She wants their love to be the same as what she had with Kwang Soo. I found that tragic and heartbreaking.

The last paragraph infuriates me though. I would never answer a loved one's question on whether I loved her by giving her another question, even if her previous statement about meeting her ex surprises me.

"What kind of question is that?" Yeah, Dong Wook. I could ask you the same. It comes from a woman who is insecure, and wants reassurance. An answer like that says a lot about a man. He isn't confident enough in his love for her.

Darn it, I am confused again. And that's a testament on your writing skills! Good job!

Chapter 57: Why? Why? Why? This is very sad! I feel that there is still love between them but because of that misunderstanding.........
I just want them to resolve the misunderstanding all this time.

Can they still be together again? And I want them to get back together!

Chapter 57: Damn! I'm crying yet again! How ironic how life is! Once the person you thought you couldn't live without had suddenly become more than a stranger and that hurts! Aigoo!
