A Familiar StrangerIf you have read the initial chapter I had published, my apologies. Just some changes towards the end of this chapter.
Ji Hyo enters their apartment early in the morning. Placing her suitcase by the door, she ties her hair back. She can still smell his perfume lingering in the air which excited her even more. Kwang Soo won't be coming home 'til midnight, he has an urgent schedule he has to attend to according to his manager. It's been exactly twelve days since Ji Hyo has left for London, she was supposed to be back three days later but the filming finished earlier than expected despite the issues with the script. Leaning on the wall, she fiddles with the phone in her hand, she's been trying to stop herself from calling her husband to let her know that she's home. Ji Hyo wanted to surprise him. These past few days, the giraffe seemed awfully quiet, she figure he must have been lonely being at home by himself.
The actress has been dying to give her husband a hug. And though it had only been a little over than a week, she feels like they haven't seen each other in months. Spying the notebook of recipes resting on top of the coffee table, she flips through the pages and decides to make his favourite dish. Kimchijiggae it is.
And before anything else, she checks the contents of their fridge. Kwang Soo must've done some shopping. Even though the fridge wasn't completely bare, there was still some ingredients that she needed to buy. Deciding that now was the best time to head down to the shop, she hastily grabs her handbag and places one of Kwang Soo's cap over her head.
Filling her lungs with Seoul's spring air, Ji Hyo decides that she's going to take advantage of her spare time to walk and look around. She's been so busy these past few weeks and thought that having even a few hours to herself is quite nice.
As the actress walked in the direction of the grocery store, something catches her eye, it was a small shop right across the street. There were bottles of sodas lined up against the window. As she crosses the street carefully, she eyes the shop. They had dozens of glass bottles displayed behind the window, each personalized with a different name.
A few moments later, Ji Hyo comes out of the shop with her handbag a tad bit heavier. She had bought two glass bottles of Coca-Cola, both personalized with each of their names. She knew Kwang Soo would love it. Her husband loves fizzy drinks, he would always order it wherever they went. She even remembers that time when he first signed himself up on SNS. Not many would be able to guess, but Ji Hyo was the person responsible for his username. And ever since he made the account, people had often asked Kwang Soo what his username meant. It simply meant 'let's drink coke', she could almost hear him say the words.
Walking a few meters more, Ji Hyo stops in her tracks. She thought she saw a familiar figure in her peripheral vision. It was the grey hoodie. She could recognize it from a mile away, it was one of her favourites. Ji Hyo wanted to turn to his direction but something inside her tells her not to.
The familiar figure wasn't alone. He had something in his arm; it was another woman. Ji Hyo's heart was now racing uncontrollably, an uneasy feeling bubbling right from her stomach to her chest. And as if her legs had minds of their own, they turned in her husband's direction. He stood there for a moment, patting the back of a woman Song Ji Hyo knew too well.
She wanted to yell from across the street, she wanted to call his
