The power went off and Minseok whimpered, tying his fluffy blanket around himself like a cape. Shuffling to a window, he peeked through the curtains at the scene outside - nothing but heavy rain. Lightning flashed in the grey sky and Minseok's ears shot up, his eyes flaring a dangerously light shade of brown - it always happened when he was hyper-aware or threatened.
He turned around to stare at the landline, deep in thought before he dialled the first number scribbled down on the emergency list.
'Sorry, but the number you are trying to call is out of coverage. Please try again later.'
'Jongdae...' he whimpered, setting the phone down with pursed lips. Suddenly, a thunderclap resounded in the dark house and the hybrid let out a loud yowl. He bolted for the master bedroom, jumping into the queen-sized bed. After a few seconds of frantic searching, he found his favourite pink cat plushie.
'Save me, Kitty-poo,' Minseok sniffled, chewing onto its battered ear and hiding his face in it. His tail bristed and stood poker straight. Soon enough, it cramped up and shot bouts of pain up his spine.
