Perfidious - underhanded, treacherous, deceitful-even evil.

---

Jessica and Yuri's hearts practically stopped, and their breaths caught in their throats at the sight before them. The unexpected intruder wore a sly smirk that sent shivers down their spines as they gracefully moved around the table. Seizing Jessica's glass of red wine, they took a sip while positioning themselves between Yuri and Jessica. A disdainful glance from the intruder made Yuri's eyes drop to her plate, her teeth clenched in shame and uncertainty. She felt utterly helpless, unsure of how to respond.

The intruder shifted their gaze away from Yuri, directing it at the other person with a deep sense of disappointment. Jessica's anxiety spiked as she bit her lip, regretting not being more prepared for a situation like this.

"Jessica." The single word struck Jessica like a blow, and she cursed herself internally for not having a plan in place for such an encounter. Fear rippled through her as she observed the darkness in those eyes, eyes that had the power to invoke a deep-seated dread. "Why do you keep doing this, Jessica? Why?" The tone was neither soft nor furious, but eerily calm, and it sent a chill down her spine. "Despite my warnings, you persist in meddling in my affairs. Why? WHY?!!!!"

The sound of shattered glass echoed through the air as the intruder flung the wineglass behind them, the fragments scattering across the floor. Jessica turned her gaze away, wriggling uncomfortably in her seat, keenly aware of the potent anger emanating from the person before her. Crossing the doe-eyed woman when she was in a rage was never a wise choice.

Yuri, on the other hand, opted for silence. She understood that speaking up now might only escalate the situation, potentially leading to an outcome she wouldn't wish upon her worst enemy.

"Jessica." The word rang with a chilling calmness that sent shivers down Jessica's spine. It wasn't soft or furious; it was the kind of tone that made her feel as if she were teetering on the edge of a precipice. "Give me an answer now, or you'll soon realize the extent of regret you're about to experience."

A heavy silence enveloped them, suffocating and thick. Both Yuri and Jessica wished they could rewind time and avoid this confrontation altogether. They were well aware that their explanations and excuses would likely fall on deaf ears. The impending events of this evening promised to be far from pleasant.

"When will you realize that everything I've done is for your own good?" Jessica's bitterness was palpable, and she rose from her seat, stopping just inches away from the doe-eyed woman. Her voice trembled with emotion. "I took those actions because I can't bear the thought of you leaving me. But it seems you're growing fond of that girl, aren't you? How much more can you hurt and break me, Yoong?" She vowed to herself that she would never shed tears in front of Yoona again during these conversations, as discussing their unresolved problems always left her heart shattered. But her fragile heart always betrayed her, especially when faced with Yoona's insensitivity, allowing tears to stream down her cheeks.

"Jennie? Oh, Jessica, please don't cry in front of me over that girl. She's not worth your tears." The doe-eyed woman's voice softened, her gaze locking onto Jessica's tearful eyes. "Do you really think I would be interested in that spoiled girl? I've never cheated on you, Jessica, you know that unless—" she hesitated, aware of the third person present in the room. Clicking her tongue, she shifted her attention back to Jessica. "Unless the truth staring me in the face right now is that you're developing romantic feelings for her."

Jessica let out a scoff at the question, laughter and tears intertwining in a complex display of emotions. The others in the room could only watch her, taken aback by her unusual state. Laughter and tears, a mixture of despair and disbelief, painted a vivid picture.

"I've often wondered why I ended up with you. Why I keep loving you despite your gradual detachment from me, consumed by your own desires. Why I've stayed with you even after all the pain you've inflicted upon me. I deserve to be loved, Yoona, to receive the affection I long for." Her words held the weight of undeniable truth, and Yoona couldn't deny it. "But here's the thing – no matter what I try, no matter how much I attempt to erase my feelings for you, it's futile. Despite the countless times you've hurt me, I can't help but love you. Because Yuri isn't you. You're the one I love, Yoona." Through her tears, Jessica moved closer, her trembling hands reaching up to cup Yoona's cheeks. The latter didn't shy away, allowing Jessica to touch her as she watched her intently. "I love you, Yoong," she whispered, her voice full of longing and pain. "Do me a favor, Yoong. Please..." Yoona arched an eyebrow, awaiting Jessica's request. "...please let go of that girl and just be with me."

Yoona's head shook in disbelief as she swatted Jessica's hands away, earning a frown from the latter. "What are you suggesting, Jessica? Is this some form of blackmail?" she questioned, her voice laced with a mixture of frustration and confusion.

Jessica's fingers twitched, longing to touch Yoona and bridge the emotional gap between them, but she held back, her heart aching. "N-No, Yoong, I promise you, it's not blackmail. I just want to find a way back to the love we once had. Can't we go back to that? Can't you love me like you used to?" Her voice quivered with vulnerability, as she pleaded for Yoona's understanding.

"Return to her, Ms. Lim, if that's what it takes to realize your dream building. Eventually, the Kim family will discover this, leaving you no alternative," Yuri interjected with a matter-of-fact tone, devoid of emotion. She glanced up and noticed the sudden hush in the room. Before she could react, she found herself slammed back in her seat, a punch landing square on her face, propelling her onto the floor. Yoona stood over her, gripping her collar tightly, rage blazing in her eyes.

"I never thought you could stoop so low, Yoona." A sardonic smirk played on Yuri's lips, her words dripping with disdain, taunting the infuriated woman above her.

Yoona's fists clenched, her knuckles stained with Yuri's blood as she continued to land blow after blow. Bloodied and battered, Yuri's vision blurred, the pain intensifying, yet her words only seemed to fuel Yoona's anger. "You thought I was oblivious to your deceit, didn't you? You're a coward, Yuri. I despise you, you damn traitor. Your attachment to me was only a means to get close to Jessica. Think she'll ever reciprocate your feelings? You're delusional!"

The insult triggered something within Yoona, pushing her to hit harder, her fists becoming a manifestation of her pent-up fury. "What? You dare accuse me of deceit? If I'm deceitful, what does that make you? You're nothing but a hypocrite," Yuri shot back, her voice laced with venom, meeting Yoona's blows with defiance.

As the violent exchange unfolded before her, Jessica's heart raced with terror and helplessness. She wanted to intervene, to shield both of them from further harm, but she knew that stepping in could lead to her own injury. The room was a battlefield of emotions, the air thick with tension, and she could feel the mounting danger. If she didn't act soon, the situation could spiral out of control, potentially escalating to a point of no return.

"You orchestrated this entire scheme from the very beginning, didn't you? You cunningly positioned yourself as her savior, hoping it would lead to something more intimate. Your careful concealment of evidence against me is nothing short of impressive. I suppose I'm quite the effective teacher, aren't I?" A sinister glint danced in Yoona's eyes, her lips curling into a cold smile. Before she could strike Yuri once more, a firm grip pulled her away from the battered woman.

"Yoong, please, stop this. Don't inflict more harm on her," Jessica pleaded, her voice trembling. Her breaths quickened as she watched the turmoil in Yoona's eyes, sensing the burning desire for vengeance. A soft warmth cupped Yoona's cheeks, drawing her attention upward. Jessica's eyes, full of concern and affection, met Yoona's gaze. "Let's not resort to violence. We can find another way to resolve this, together."

For the first time, Yoona's resolve faltered, and she let out a heavy sigh. A torrent of conflicting thoughts swirled within her mind. "Why did you have to do this, Jessica? I've poured my heart and soul into making my dream come true, and now you're on the verge of shattering it all. What am I supposed to do now?" Her final question wasn't directed at them; it was a plaintive plea to the universe. It felt as if the tables had turned, leaving her cornered and desperate.

Her final question wasn't directed at them; it was a plaintive plea to the universe. It felt as if the tables had turned, leaving her cornered and desperate.

"She's right," Yuri managed to rise, despite the pain etched on her face. She struggled to stand on shaky legs, her voice holding a note of resignation. "The Kim family will uncover the truth eventually."

A bitter chuckle escaped Yoona's lips, leaving both Jessica and Yuri taken aback by the unexpected sound. "Why? Why put me through this?" She frustratedly raked her fingers through her hair, a gesture reflecting her inner turmoil, as she distanced herself from Jessica, momentarily ignoring the ache in her body.

Jessica's frustration began to boil over. Why couldn't Yoona understand that she was acting in Yoona's best interest? "It's the only way, Yoong. Please understand! If the truth comes out, you could lose everything—your family, your freedom." Yoona's words hit her like a sharp blow, and Jessica turned to face her fully, her eyes pleading for understanding. She needed to make Yoona see reason, to ensure that Yoona didn't make a choice that would ruin their lives. "I'm here, our families are united, and I'm here to support you in building your dream. Just promise me you won't push me away. We can face this together."

The realization of what could befall her hit Yoona with the weight of a landslide. The prospect of disownment by her family, the possibility of facing jail time, and the truth that no matter where she went, Jessica would always be there, shattered her resolve. All her energy seemed to evaporate, leaving her in a state of turmoil.

In her heart, she decided that what she wanted most right now was to crawl into bed and seek refuge in slumber.

I lose. "Alright," her voice rang hollow, a defeated tone underscoring her words. "I'll end things with her." The resignation in her voice was palpable, a sign of her surrender to circumstances beyond her control.

A small smile tugged at Jessica's lips through her tears. She wasted no time in pulling Yoona into her embrace, holding her tightly. "I'm not going anywhere, Yoong. You're my world."

Yuri, silently observing, felt a pang of heartache. She wished for a future where Jessica wouldn't be hurt by Yoona's choices, hoping for a brighter path ahead.

---

"Where are you headed?"

"Just going to freshen up and maybe grab a smoke for a while," Yoona replied. Despite her reassurance, there was a hint of uncertainty on Jessica's face, a worry that Yoona was still grappling with the decisions made earlier. She hoped her words would alleviate Jessica's concerns. "Don't worry, I just need some time alone right now. I'll be back before you know it."

As Yoona's lips curved into a small smile, Jessica's worries seemed to dissipate. With a sigh of relief, Jessica pulled the taller woman into a warm embrace. She couldn't wait for Yoona to return so they could snuggle together. "Alright, take care. I love you."

Yoona nodded in response to Jessica's words and then turned her gaze to Yuri, who had volunteered to take Jessica home since she hadn't brought her own car. Agreeing to the arrangement, Yoona was certain Jessica would be in safe hands.

Once the car had driven off and the street fell quiet, Yoona decided to take a solitary stroll through the chilly night. Retrieving a box of cigarettes from her coat, she extracted one, lighting it with a small lighter. Inhaling the smoke, she attempted to push aside her worries and thoughts, embracing the tranquility of the cool evening air.

Her solitude was abruptly disrupted by the persistent ringing of her phone. She debated whether to answer it or not, exhaling a resigned sigh as it continued to ring. Retrieving her phone from her coat pocket, she glanced at the caller ID – RubyJane. Recognizing that they had a conversation pending, she reluctantly swiped the green button.

"Jennie," she greeted, her tone neutral.

"Where are you?" Jennie's voice came through the line, filled with a mix of concern and urgency.

Yoona surveyed her surroundings, quickly determining her location, and relayed the information to Jennie. Given the lateness of the hour, she guessed that Jennie might be worried about her whereabouts.

"I'll come to pick you up. We need to talk," Jennie declared.

Yoona agreed with a mumbled affirmation before ending the call. She sighed, feeling the chill of the night air, and was startled when a familiar car pulled up in front of her. The window rolled down to reveal Jennie, and Yoona couldn't help but be taken aback by the girl's swift arrival.

"How did you get here so quickly? I just hung up the phone," Yoona voiced her surprise, her eyebrows knitting together.

Jennie bit her lip, her demeanor marked by a nervousness that was quite unlike her usual self. Yoona couldn't help but wonder if something significant had occurred. Jennie's nervousness was palpable, her body tense, and Yoona couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss.

"Did something happen?" she inquired, her voice laced with genuine concern. Sliding into the passenger seat, she buckled her seatbelt and turned her attention to the girl beside her, who began to drive without a clear destination.

It was odd – whatever had transpired had clearly shaken Jennie. Yoona decided to wait patiently, giving her the time and space to open up about the issue. As the car came to a halt near the Han River, Yoona heard the engine turn off. She uncrossed her legs and shifted her gaze to Jennie, her right foot tapping the car mat as she waited expectantly for Jennie to start the conversation.

"Something had --"

"I heard everything at your place earlier."

A chilling sensation crawled up Yoona's spine, freezing her in place. She blinked rapidly, her breath catching, her jaw clenching as Jennie's words hung heavily in the air. The realization that Jennie had overheard their conversation in her hideout crashed over her like a wave. Panic and vulnerability surged within her – the exposure of her darkest secret, a secret she had guarded with everything she had.

Her mind raced to understand how Jennie could have discovered the hideout's location. She had felt the subtle unease during their exit, the sensation o
