Ode To You : The Star [for Wonwoo]
Somniphobia and other painful self indulgences17 July 2019
How does a star know it is beautiful?
Does it rely on the velvet sweet caress of darkness and the envy of heaven’s ambience?
Can it feel its own heart burning as the glow of a thousand living embers dance and play and sing inside it?
Does it seek the safety of the earth to hide its beauty from the jealous moon? Destined to wander the horizon alone; adrift and aloft
Can it feel the fire inside its heart burning a glow through the years?
Falling to seek the earth to hide itself from the jealous wrath of the moon, bereft the chill of silent discontent, unwilling to share the sable sky’s embrace
Meandering trails of ice and laughter stream in its wake towards an eternal visage, with soft fall footsteps walking the earthen path, a smile a panacea for willing respite
When it falls to the earth does it compare?
Does the breath of earth beneath its feet lead it to wander in search of something intangible or fleeting?
Does it bless the world willingly with its lovely smile? Does its laughter ring through the wind like bells on the breath of winter wind?
Is the star a sweet summer child of sunsets written in lavender and rose and gold? Is it thunderstorms and rain and the relief of midsummer showers?
Does it even know?
A star which lingers in the darkness of heaven or walks the world in grace doesn’t need the pittance of one against the other
A star which glows doesn’t glow to outshine the moon or any other star
It doesn’t have to
Its beauty needs no comparison because the star shines for no purpose other than it just does
It just shines
