chapter ten
UnrequitedToday is just one fine Sunday morning where birds can be heard chirping outside while a certain engaged pair is eating their breakfast together. A certain Japanese rambling nervously about her date later while the other? Well let's just say that she's trying her best to contain her feelings inside.
"What if Chaewon didn't like what I prepared for her? What if it didn't exceed her expectations? What if something goes wrong in the middle of our date? What if-" Before her list of what ifs could even pile up, the younger cuts her off and held her quivering hands.
“It’s going to be fine, unnie. You’re just over thinking things, Chaewon unnie appreciates every little thing that we do for her. If anything, I’m sure she’d be more than glad to find out that you planned all these things for her and judging from your notes last night, who would’ve thought that Miyawaki Sakura is that romantic.” Minjoo flashed a genuine smile, showing how proud she was despite the feeling of envy inside her heart.
“You’ll do well on your date, alright? Just don’t mind it that much and ease up to the atmosphere. I mean I already won Chaewon’s heart yesterday but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t enjoy your last date with her, right?” She smirks upon saying that, making the older girl scoff and roll her eyes. Little did she know the brunette already raised a white flag.
“Whatever, you don’t even pay much attention to her…” And so their breakfast carries on with the cherry blossom voicing out her admiration towards her fairy crush while the beauty pretends to listen to every word that comes out of her lips, burying the pain deep within.
Funny isn’t it? A few months ago, they were rivaling over Kim Chaewon, the junior transferee with a face and a voice of an angel. But now, she had fallen in love with her rival or her fiancée rather. Her former enemy now the love of her life that’s oblivious towards her feelings and seeing her eyes sparkle talking about her fairy crush hurts her a lot.
“Oh and by the way, we really should find the perfect time to tell them to cancel the engagement because after the third date, Chaewon will be choosing from the two of us. If it happens to be me, I don’t want to lie to her about these kinds of things, she doesn’t deserve being lied to.” This sentence disrupted Minjoo from her own train of thoughts.
Oh yeah, the engagement.
The only thing that’s keeping her and Sakura together, and once their plan turns out to be successful, that means she will no longer see that enchanting face that greets her every morning. They can no longer drift off sleep while watching Netflix every weekend nights and not to mention their nightly cuddles. And then, they can date whoever their heart desires. Minjoo doesn’t know if she can withstand the pain because just by thinking about it really hurts.
“Are you even listening to me?” The grey haired girl pouted upon noticing that her companion seems to be lost in her thoughts the whole time, she then snapped out of it and immediately locked gazes with her.
“Yeah.”
“Really? Then what was the last thing that I said?” The cherry blossom slightly squinted her eyes in suspicion to intimidate the girl in front of her.
“Cancelling our engagement.” The beauty answers in an instant with tons of confidence. Hearing her response, Sakura’s suspicions vanished and so they went ahead with the topic.
Although it was mostly the Japanese going through with the plan to cancel the engagement and the brunette ‘listening’ attentively. If they were having this conversation a couple of months back she would’ve been nostalgic about it, heck she’d even take the lead but now that the situation have backfired, all she could ever think about is how she’s going to take the sight of her soon to be ex-fiancée flirting and spending time with someone else.
Once the engagement has been cancelled, she’d have no rope of hope to hold on to. She’s just one of Sakura’s friends, who knows if they’ll even have the chance to talk like normal afterwards, or will they turn awkward like any other broken up couples even though they pretty much didn’t really date each other with their own consent.
It's been a couple of hours and right now, Sakura is waiting for Chaewon to arrive at the park. She was initially going to drop by her place to pick her up but the younger insists on meeting her here. Right now, nervousness is painted all over her face.
"Unnie!" Just then, the cherry blossom heard the call of an angel. She swiftly whipped towards the direction of that angel and was left stupefied. All of a sudden, everything turns into a slow motion. The way Chaewon smiles at her sweetly and waves at her, then immediately running towards her while her hair dances along with the breeze, everything that she does simply makes the older's heart flutter.
"Earth to Kkura, what happened? You spaced out for over a minute." The raven pouted her lips cutely, causing the former to feel all sorts of euphoria inside. Coming back to reality, the grey haired girl returns her smile and spoke.
"How could I not when I literally have a date with Kim Chaewon." Sakura boldly said with a confident grin before swiftly grabbing a hold of her crush's hand and clasping them together, making the said fairy blush all over as her heart beat begins to pick up its pace.
Chaewon planted her gaze on their joint hands, thinking how perfect their fingers fit with each other like puzzle. Her eyes were then drawn unto the older's side profile. The first time she saw her, she did find Sakura attractive, but now looking at her this close in this type of situation, the latter's visual is just over the top ethereal.
Now she understood why Minjoo fell for this lass, catching feelings for Miyawaki Sakura is simply inevitable, especially when she's this clingy.
"I didn't plan anything extravagant for our first real date. I just want us to enjoy the fresh air feeding the birds and playing here in the park while trying to get to know each other deeper." There it goes again, her smile, that damn irresistible smile. The raven can feel heat rushing on her cheeks and all she could do is to pray for the former to not notice.
"First real date? So you're saying that our past dates are fake?" The fairy chuckles when she saw the Japanese’s expression changed into a puzzled one and finds it cute.
"N-no that's not it-"
"Relax unnie, I'm just teasing you okay? No need to be all defensive about it." Before the grey haired girl could babble her excuse, Chaewon beats her to it and gave her assurance which seems to have worked.
"Yah you shouldn't do that, it makes me nervous. I don't want to waste this opportunity, I really fancy you in case that didn't sink in to you just yet. I don't want to mess things up." Sakura pouted, making the younger smile unconsciously.
"You don't have to remind me that, now why don't we feed the birds? They seem to be getting angry because we're making them wait for so long." The latter said before breaking their intertwined fingers which immediately caused them to miss the warmth before grabbing some brown paperbags where the bird food lies.
"When I was a kid, I used to be so scared of birds." After a few good minutes of silence, the cherry blossom finally opened up to make a conversation.
"Birds? Why so, they're like the most peaceful creature in the world." The raven asks in curiosity, ceasing her hands from feeding the birds as she glanced at the girl parallel to her.
"Because there was this one time when me and my brother was playing in the park and a bird kept following us so I kicked it away. Minutes later there's like a pack of them and they literally pricked me! If it weren't for that nice old lady I would've died and you wouldn't have the best date of your life today!" The grey haired girl sulks, her lips pursed into a pout and this sight of her caused a chortle to escape from the younger's lips.
"It's your fault, you shouldn't have kicked the bird in the first place." Hearing this only caused the older to sulk even more and when Chaewon saw this, she gave her a light pat on the head. In an instant, that frown turned upside down.
"You know if I were to be reborn not as a human, I'd like to be a bird." By this point, it was now Sakura's turn to scan her eyes through her companion's side profile. She can feel her heart beating erratically.
The air that's brushing her bangs away, freeing her imprisoned forehead, her cute button nose that's perfect for her facial structure, those plump lips that's curved into a smile. God sure did take his time crafting this beautiful person in front of her. Right now, she's just grateful that she gets to have a date with someone as angelic as Kim Chaewon.
"And why is that?"
"I just want to fly around the world for free, you know? Plane fees are so damn expensive." With that being said, the pair couldn't help but laugh at the joke.
"That's one, but just like what I said earlier, they're the most peaceful creature in the world. The most beautiful and probably the most unproblematic as well. I just thought that life will be so much better if I'm free as a bird." Chaewon said and this time, it was sincere.
And so this went on for a half an hour before they proceeded to play in the park with all the kids around, Sakura couldn't help but fix her eyes on the girl before her. Indeed, she was drawn, well who wouldn't be?
"Noona you're beautiful, can you be my girlfriend?" Just then, the young boy being held by Chaewon blurted those words out recklessly. The lass was quite surprised hearing that but later on chu
