If You Fall, I Will Carry You

Description

Tsen S’Reht Om has been living in quiet balance for at least two centuries, until the soothsayers reveal an impending apocalypse—the destruction of nations to be brought upon the Central Kingdoms by its own heir, Bae Joohyun, who was secretly bound to the soul of a dragon named Kang Seulgi.

Foreword

YES. This story has been revamped. Fiction and reality are two very different things. We don’t want any idol getting dragged because of fiction :(

And because some people are too compassionate over fiction and characterization, I would like to politely ask you, if you kindly consider reading this story, to trust me. Every character in the story has a vital role to fulfill that I have given so much effort and love to brainstorming.

Lastly, I have to give credit and promote the song and songwriter that motivated me to write this story. The title is obviously “If You Fall I Will Carry You” by Efisio Cross.

Inspirations include: Lord of the Rings and Final Fantasy XII, XV, X, and of course the Lord of Disappointments itself, Game of Thrones. Oh and, there’s a little touch of Avatar: The Last Airbender (the TV series) in there now.

So.... I dropped like a dozen stuff to sniff out in this chapter and maybe a hundred in this entire volume alone. I’m very excited to work on Volume III now!

Really appreciate the effort you put in this story, authornim. This is one of the best stories ive here so far to the point that labelling this as a fanfiction doesnt deserve the label since this is a wholeass original story and a brilliant one at that. Keep up the good work!

Chapter 9: So.. the take away here is that dry corals can sever bonds and were used during the Purge. Young Soo possesses one right now and most assumingly plans to use it to break Joohyun's bond. The thing is, one from the previously bonded pair would die due to the use of the dry coral and in most cases it would be the Magii. In Joohyun's case, Seulgi. However, the idea is in conflict with the first excerpt of the Eternal Scholar. The first excerpt discusses Magii bonds and how it was perceived by people of different places. Its relation to everything else was also given thought and consideration. A bonded pair supposedly shares everything between them. Does it mean then that the death of one would result to the death of the other? If so, would it be a literal or figurative death?

Other than that, this chapter really raised alot of questions. Like, how did Young Soo came to know about the existence of dry corals? Where did he find it? Did Jung Nam also planned to use the dry coral for Joohyun's sake? The use of the coral means severance of her bond and possibly avoiding or stopping the prophesized destruction. If that's the case, was he also aware of the other consequences it would bring to the previously bonded pair? Much as I understand that he is both a father and king who would naturally look out for the best interests of his daughter and the kingdom, I can't help but think that he is a serial oathbreaker. He broke his promise to Seulgi's mother by allowing Young Soo to live and sending Seulgi away to be raised far from Joohyun. Now, it looks like he might take things a step further by using a dry coral to break Joohyun's bond to Seulgi. The bond that kept her alive and was made possible by the sacrifice of Seulgi's mother. I really hope Jung Nam wasn't intending the dry coral to be used that way because it would be such a poor repayment of the help that was given to him. Had Seulgi's mother not helped him, Joohyun would have long succumbed to whatever was ailing her before.

Chapter 8: I've got to say that this chapter screams and exudes Zimzalabim. I can't believe how fast things went sideways and drifted off course. It looks like both Young Soo and Seulgi got triggered into entering their current state and had set off a chain of events due to their own circumstance. Young Soo's ordeal really kept me on my toes. There's no predicting his own motives and real nature. At one point he is completely understandable, and then the next thing I know, he changes into something else I don't even know how he can find himself in. I'm really split what to think of him. Was it due to a split personality or something? Was he in league with someone else who can access his thoughts and somehow manipulate how he sees and feels things? What if it's all literally in the head and the current circumstances he previously found himself in just exacerbated his barely controlled thoughts and actions that it resulted to him being triggered to kill his father and get bent? It didn't seem like he was totally lost when he visited Jung Nam. There was recognition and coherent thought. Thought that suggests that he can somehow and in some way be talked at rationally. A vague sense of awareness...or humanity of sorts? Is he really in love with Joohyun or was he just in love with the idea of her? He seems to have also planted Captain Shim as his father's killer, does it mean that he knew from the very start that Jung Nam and Captain Shim were keeping an eye on him and it wasn't just a recent thing on his part? It calls into question his very allegiance and course of action. Was he an ally turned enemy or was he really a turncoat from the very start? Does he really have the best interests at heart but had gotten twisted due to to some events out of his hands? He is such an enigma that I can't help but be interested and caught with his descent to whatever he is right now.

As for Seulgi, it seems like she had just truly started to come into her own as a dragon. It's like she just came of age when she sprouted wings and gained far better developed senses. It also seemed like she's now more attuned to Joohyun. I'm wondering though if some of the things she initially felt when she woke up was her own or Joohyun's. It's not impossible that most or some of it was Joohyun's, considering that they were in very close proximity and she's not yet used to her new senses. She literally woke up into an entirely new slew of things when she herself doesn't even know that much of herself as a dragon to begin with. The aftermath of the unexpected turn of events was essentially a start of self-discovery for all three of them. Seulgi as the last dragon, Joohyun newly minted as Irene finding her own identity, and Sooyoung further coming into her own abilities and given responsibilities as a priestess. The fact that they are adrift at sea...it's like some sort of nod towards teenage angst or quarter-life crisis. Is that a coincidence or what?
